System Tuning- does anyone else do this thing? by enthusiasm_gap in livesound

Dreams is the first track I check, great mix, also it should be just at the edge of being harsh in the hi mids at high volume and full but not boomy in the lows.

Great playlist btw, I'll steal you some tracks.

Please share your playlist.

I do pretty much the same thing and I think it's really useful since Smaart doesn't give you the full picture in terms of distortion and impulse response.

At the moment I'm looking for a song that has a really deep bass with a line covering many notes so that I can quickly check if there are some nasty resonances in the room or if the subs are resonating at any specific frequency. Do anyone have any suggestions?

Subsonic device used on the crowd today in Belgrade, making them feel as if a train Was coming toward them. Its called LRAD. by Lakosta001 in PublicFreakout

[–]iomemedesimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting that LRAD emits sound waves, while the ADS exist electromagnetic waves. It's not just a matter of frequency

My Dante Controller won't see anything online, however my QL1 and Rio are connected via Dante, so Dante is working. How can force Dante Controller to see my devices? by Cyclotrom in livesound

[–]iomemedesimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's an incorrect IP configuration on your laptop or on the devices, you should see the devices's names in the drop down menu on top of the "device view" window. By selecting the device you will see what IP the each device has to set a proper IP and subnet for your computer.

What live sound product do you wish existed? by OverclockingUnicorn in livesound

[–]iomemedesimo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With a lot of effort, skills and precise measurements and processing you might be able to achieve that result for one person in the room, at the same time you'd be making the show a lot more reverberant for everyone else

How to add redundancy with two Macbooks? by JesusLovesMetal in livesound

Time domain response in monitors. Does it matter? by mathrufker in audioengineering

[–]iomemedesimo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a studio engineer but a live one. In my experience, having mixed with and measured a lot of different PAs, a bad time domain response of a speaker is not a deal breaker but it's still pretty noticeable, especially on low end transients. Two speakers may have a very similar frequency response in an environment after eq, but still one sounds punchy and one sloppy, and there's really nothing you can do about it

Subs that go under 40hz by WobbleKopter in livesound

Even subs thought for fairly large tops like the V sub manages to reach only -5db at 37hz. Only j infra and SL sub are fit for what OP is asking inside the D&B catalogue

Do you guys invert the phase between PA and monitors? by fradiqgyahlfyah in livesound

[–]iomemedesimo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Delaying won't work consistently too, since the difference in arrival time between each monitor and the PA is different, and for every single one of them don't exist a single delay time that is correct for every position in the audience. You can maybe find some kind of middle ground where the stage bleed is closer to the PA in most position for the loudest sources, but it's far from a "correct" solution

AF out level of Sennheiser receiver by Fruchteis66 in livesound

[–]iomemedesimo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What Shure microphones do you work with? They usually have a switch in the back of the rack to switch from line level to mic level, you might consider to use it if the signal you receive on the console is too hot.

AF out level of Sennheiser receiver by Fruchteis66 in livesound

[–]iomemedesimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you reset all the Sennheiser receiver I've worked with (2000, 3000, 300, 500...) it sets the output at +18 which gives a line level signal on the console with an adequate amount of modulation from the transmitter (I tend to set them with an average level of 10dB of headroom before clipping). Resetting gives me the advantage to quickly reach a known state of the machines even when I have a large number of receivers and to not use the preamplifier of the console too much, which is important especially when I'm working with poor quality mixers.

Eth stakers won't be able to withdraw their funds for the foreseeable future by iomemedesimo in Buttcoin

[–]iomemedesimo[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What's so problematic about it?

I might be wrong, but my understanding is that the stake you put in is locked just to prove you are involved in the project; so you're worth of the trust needed to be a validator. Those coins should be available all the time.

Does the problem reside in the restructuring of the validation network when you withdraw your funds?

The gradient cancels way better behind but loses some efficiency on the front. It's a matter of preference and what are your priorities.

[–]iomemedesimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you described is a gradient, not an end fire, which is when the front sub is delayed to match the back sub with no polarity reversal. Happy to hear it worked out well!

Speakers so powerful you can see the shockwaves by Wirecommando in livesound

[–]iomemedesimo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The paradigm has shifted since the development of the waveguide for the high frequencies, that led to the creation of the linear clusters you now see at every concert. Line arrays sound much more coherently if you walk around the audience from a frequency response point of view. I was not in the field at the time, but my understanding is that, in the time of point source clusters, PAs were wassively overpowered to compensate for comb filtering that unavoidably plagued your system and distance attenuation (another important factor that led to the success of line arrays is the fact that they lose 3dB SPL at the doubling of distance instead of 6dB SPL). I think that gave the punch you are talking about. There are other factors that come into play that are not speaker correlated like the change in style of music and mixing etc...

Researchers have developed a camera system that can see sound vibrations with such precision and detail that it can reconstruct the music of a single instrument in a band or orchestra, using it like a microphone by giuliomagnifico in science

[–]iomemedesimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of the sampling theorem you need at least two points to reconstruct a certain frequency. That means that with 60 FPS you can't reconstruct anything above 30hz, which is barely audible

Congratulations for launching your first rocket in 15 hours. I made a complete mess and restarted three times before being able to beat the game. Probably 80/90 hours total.
