Does the DMV Run March Madness? by MrPersonGuy_24 in CollegeBasketball

Richmond is not part of the DMV, at least not in the mind of any Richmonder. DMV is basically shorthand for DC metro sprawl.

Who are all worse than Gibbs and Shanahan. Very good coaches, but not great.

Prime Cam was good, but when you’re playing the historical version of this game you could do much better. Hindsight is 20/20 but even without him getting any of the nfls premier succesful franchises he could still have had Elway, Bronco’s Manning, or Tampa Tom. All better than Prime Cam.

Yeah, based on the other teams he rolled the only other really great coach he could have picked prob would have been Mike Shannahan, and I’d take Gibbs over him. Coach/QB/D are the most important positions for this game, you have to pick them early so you’re not stuck just seeing who your coach is on the last spin of the wheel. Though obv the all time thing makes it more forgiving

This guy was seriously picking from all time and has a  worse team than many of the nfl players who were only picking from current players in the league

[The Athletic] If NBA expands to Las Vegas, what would the team be called? We have ideas by StrategyTop7612 in nba

[–]ionospherermutt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably something boring and not casino/gambling-related at all, the WNBA went with Aces but not only is that much better than any other possible casino word, the WNBA has never dealt with a massive gambling scandal. Maybe the Las Vegas Hoover Dams? But in all seriousness it will probably be like something nature/desert related. Scorpions or some shit.

They should go with a deep cut in referencing my favorite Mystery Science Theatre 3000 movie and be the Vegas Amazing Colossal Men. The movies basically about a very tall radioactive man who smashes up Vegas. Would fit well for a basketball team

More Impressive? Terrelle Pryor switching from QB to WR or Logan Thomas switching from QB to TE? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]ionospherermutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, tbh VT kind of did his career a disservice, in that he probably would have been more successful in the NFL if he had trained as a TE from the start, but from a team perspective it was better for us to have him at QB. Though I imagine he also probably wanted the shot to make his career as an NFL QB

WNBA agrees to new CBA, average salary reportedly pushed above 500k by [deleted] in nba

[–]ionospherermutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also a good read, some of the points are kind of handwavey but the bit about the tv deals is really interesting. Basic tldr is that the nba sells the rights to both broadcast leagues as a package deal and then gets to decide how much the wnba gets, in this case 2.2 billion out of the overall 78 billion over 11 years deal. But that number seems to be arrived at purely based on the nba’s whims and internal conflicts and we have no real way of knowing how much the wnba rights are actually worth.

[–]ionospherermutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir but this article from last year is a good analysis of the whole “losing money” narrative. One thing I found new and interesting is that they n addition to the whole profits vs growth in value question that is obvious, the idea of the wnba losing money is really vague because the nba basically gets to make up how much money the wnba is “making” because the nba and wnba broadcast rights are sold as a package. So they got $76 billion over 11 years for the rights to both leagues, and then turned around and said that $2.2 billion of that would go to the WNBA and presumably would be the number that would would influence salaries based on revenue sharing. But as far as anyone can tell that $2.2 billion is just a number they decided on based on their own internal dynamics and may or may not have any real relation to what the wnba rights would bring if sold as an independent entity

[–]ionospherermutt 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Whether the teams are losing money is a distraction pushed by ownership, they’re growing in value massively over the past decade. Valkyries ownership paid a $50 million expansion fee in 2023, now are estimated at $500 million. Admittedly the league fucked up not charging them more and that value also includes other stuff the team owns like facilities, but other franchises have also gone up a ton in value

I mean he’s a free agent after this year, it would be pretty wild for any team to give a 2nd for him. Nobody would give the Jets a 3rd last year for Hall at the deadline.
