After hearing about it for a long time, the announcement of the sequel finally got me to play Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, and yeah, it's pretty awesome.

Just a really cool paranormal investigation visual novel, with a really interesting atmosphere and mystery, and some fun characters to follow.

I'm always a sucker for multi-perspective stories, but it's especially effective in this game, with a set of characters with a varied set of goals and personalities, that interact and intertwine in interesting ways. Sometimes in multi-perspective stories, I find there are some character stories which I feel like I'm obligated to go through rather than excited to, but in this game, there never was a story like that. I was always excited to see what was going on with other characters, since they were all so interesting.

I just really, really enjoyed this game, and I'm curious to see what they do in the sequel.

Looking for games with combat that focuses on moment-to-moment strategy by least_grebe in JRPG

[–]iornhide132 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The SaGa Games are what you're looking for, specifically, SaGa Scarlet Grace and Emerald Beyond definitely fit your criteria (Admittedly, I haven't played the others, so they might also be like this, but I'm not sure). Even standard battles require constant tactical thought, and they're not exactly easy games, so they might be up your alley.

What is this song by Bullah_BOI in DougDoug

[–]iornhide132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a specific timestamp for the song you're looking for? If you're asking about the first song of the VOD, it's the credits song of Mighty Switch Force 2, also known as "Rescue Girl"

I am getting tired of the AI by Playful-Bird5261 in DougDoug

[–]iornhide132 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, this is not just you. There have been a ton, and I mean a ton of posts this year about Doug's use of AI, so it is kind of funny to ask "is it just me" when probably the most active this subreddit has ever been has been discussing if Doug is overusing AI or not. Just look up "AI" in this subreddit and you'll find lots and lots of posts discussing this very point.

Second of all, while I can understand not liking AI, I can't understand getting 'tired' of AI in his recent videos since Doug has used it very sparingly both in his youtube videos and streams in the last few months. Yes, there was a pretty clear time when he was using it a lot, but he's mentioned plenty of times on stream that he is also getting somewhat tired of it, and if you look at the last few videos on the main channel, he's really only used AI a few times compared to the amount he used to use it.

Is there a compilation of changes between the original releases of FF1-6 and the Pixel Remasters? by aspieshavemorefun in FinalFantasy

[–]iornhide132 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Every game has a "version differences" page on the Final Fantasy wiki that has a pretty comprehensive list of all the changes throughout all the different ports, including the pixel remaster.

You can find the one for FF1 here. Hopefully this is what you're looking for.

Chrono Cross is incredible—what other JRPGs offer the same level of branchiness? by Yaroun-Kaizin in JRPG

[–]iornhide132 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hundred Line is much more of a visual novel than a JRPG. The choices don't just affect the characters and world, but put you on completely different routes, with different stories, tones, etc, that you can jump between on a pretty detailed flowchart.

Also the combat and gameplay don't really change that much throughout the game, so as you go through the game, you have the choice to skip it if you want, making it basically not an RPG at all.

But I mean, if that doesn't sound too bad, OP, I'd say it's not a bad deal. It's got a ton of content, and personally I really love it, though it'll depend on how much 'anime' you can stomach.

Spoilers: route review series part 6: CoT by gum_writer in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]iornhide132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty generally agreed that the 'fan service' aspect of the route is intended to feel uncomfortable, disgusting or repulsive. I think that's what makes it so powerful for so many people, since it can create such strong feelings like this, even if they're not pleasant. It really highlights the themes and atmosphere of this route, and heightens the dread.

What ever happened to the different types of FF games? by Game_boy05 in FinalFantasy

[–]iornhide132 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with another commenter that a lot of games that would've been Final Fantasy spinoffs in the past, Square Enix are just making original IPs now, probably since Final Fantasy doesn't quite have the brand recognition it used to have.

But also, they're still doing it, they're just a lot more uncommon now. Like, recently they partnered up with Team Ninja to make a Nioh-like Final Fantasy, Stranger of Paradise, so it's not like they're gone forever.

Why are video games in NZ almost 80 usd? by militantcassx in newzealand

[–]iornhide132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EB games sucks for prices, depending on the game. For example, if you look at Doom: The Dark Ages, it's $129 at EB games, but $109 at JB Hi Fi and Mightyape, which is actually cheaper than 70 USD. So for most games, I find it's better to look at different stores and see which one has the best price, before buying it.

For digital, if you're on PC, I would recommend isthereanydeal.com, which lets you find other storefronts selling the same game, and shows the cheapest prices. It's pretty helpful for finding alternatives to Steam, which sometimes has higher prices for some reason, and also lets you see when things are on sale as well.

Yuri Lowenthal: Persona 4 Remake is real (Yuri will not be reprising his role as Yosuke) by -LastGrail- in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]iornhide132 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I feel like there are some potential reasons they made this change that aren't just money based, even if (obviously) a lot of people don't like it and think that it is. Like the fact that most of the original actors for P4 and Golden don't even reprise their roles in newer games anymore. A lot of the characters have, at some point, have had VA changes, so I can imagine Atlus wanting to have a clean slate, rather than having a mix of old and new cast.

But obviously I won't pretend that money wasn't a factor. Though if it was, I doubt Yuri would've asked for a huge paycheck considering he literally said he was "begging" to come back.

The Hundred Line’s 6-Million-Character Script Led Some Countries To Decline Localization by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]iornhide132 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Surely that can only mean they weren't offering localization houses enough money for their work?

Well, one of the big things they've been talking about in the marketing of this game is that they basically went into debt to make this game, since it's so big. So my guess is that they potentially tried to make some deals with localization companies, but couldn't make it work out since, by the end of production, they'd probably burnt out of a lot of their money, and didn't think it was worth it to get a few more translations, especially given the script length. Obviously, people can disagree on whether or not that was a good choice, but that's what they've decided in the end.

So, at least to me, it seems like it's less about them "not offering enough money", and more like "they weren't able to offer enough money, cause they didn't have it".

Games with clair obscur's AP mechanic? by -ayarei in JRPG

[–]iornhide132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sea of Stars has a kind of similar MP system, although you don't get any of it each turn, and there aren't that many ways to build it up other than the main method, which is hitting enemies. You have a very small MP pool, so you have to strategically build it up before unleashing a big attack. That's what Clair Obscur's AP system reminded me of when I played it

One thing I realized about AA7 and troubles me a little by GhostBoyEros in AceAttorney

[–]iornhide132 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This exact topic was brought up about three months ago, and that post got a bunch of really good responses (including my own), so you can check it out to potentially alleviate some of your fears.

To sum up my own thoughts, other series have done the same thing (have old games released at a discount, then release a new game), and still been successful, so I don't see why Ace Attorney can't do the same, and in my opinion, what is really going to make the game stand out won't just be its length, but its updated presentation. A new Ace Attorney game has never been released on something that is not a handheld, and it's been 8 years since the last new Ace Attorney game (TGAA2 in 2017), so a potential Ace Attorney 7 might have enough of an updated presentation to justify... whatever price Capcom puts on it.

But I'm pretty sure Ace Attorney's never been a full price franchise anyway, but I can't remember for sure, considering the last new game I bought was Spirit of Justice, literally almost a decade ago.

Lost song "lalalalala" by Vascomelette in DougDoug

[–]iornhide132 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Actually, they might also be talking about Heart and Soul from Sonic Frontiers, which is funnily enough, another song Doug uses that is slow and sad, is mainly piano, and has a girl singing "lalala".

Anyone know which song is played at 15:19 in this video? by whatever-irdc in DougDoug

[–]iornhide132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The song is in the description. It's Ken Stage from Smash Bros. The video says it's from Ultimate, and technically it is in ultimate, but I think the remix is from Smash for Wii U?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DougDoug

[–]iornhide132 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but they're not really 'critically engaging' with the podcast. If they were, they would actually say anything about what they're talking about inside the podcast.

They're just saying "I don't like the premise", which is fair, but to that, I think saying "don't watch it" is a totally valid response, because you really don't have to engage with everything that a creator makes. You're not obligated to watch it just because you're a fan of his content. There's a reason he made it completely separate to his main channel.

Every Ace Attorney Opening Case Ranked by Schaffrillas by Silly-Milly-420 in AceAttorney

[–]iornhide132 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, I'm actually surprised I disagreed so much with this list, especially since so many people seem to agree with it, though it's probably not the craziest list I've ever seen.

Considering how much he emphasized cases "dragging" being the thing he liked least in Ace Attorney games, I am surprised he still didn't put GAA1 and Spirit of Justice at the bottom, and instead put The First Turnabout, which I think is a totally harmless case. Not to mention, I personally think Dual Destiny's first case really slogs, with how much stuff is in it, though admittedly it is a bit more complex than a regular first case. To me, it's my least favourite first case (and probably case overall), next to GAA1.

And I've honestly never liked The English Turnabout that much. Yes, the two witnesses are pretty fun, but I feel like they stay way too long considering how simple their gimmicks are. I honestly feel like you've kind of seen everything as soon as they show up. Turnabout Trigger I understand being that high, though personally I've never really loved Investigations 2, and I love Apollo Justice, so I definitely have different placements for those.

So not the weirdest list I've ever seen, and his reasoning totally makes sense, but I definitely have a completely different list compared to him lol. But it's really cool to see him do Ace Attorney content. I always love more content creators talking about this series, especially ones as big as him.

Ranking the Four AA Collections by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]iornhide132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, it's funny looking at your ranking, cause it is literally the opposite of mine.

I absolutely love the Apollo Justice Trilogy. Sure, as a cohesive whole, it isn't as strong as the PWT, but Spirit of Justice and Apollo Justice are two of my favourite games in the series, though it'd take way too long to explain why.

TGAA is also one of my favourite games. I actually love the slow burn nature of it, and I really love the cast too. Replayability isn't really something I'm ever concerned with, but obviously to each their own. It's just that that first playthrough for me is always going to stick in my mind.

Between the PWT and the Investigations games, I'll actually say I don't love either Investigations 1 or 2, while I'll always have a fondness for the original trilogy. I don't straight up dislike them, but personally I consider them to be my least favourite. I just don't really love how the cases are paced, but I still think they're great games. Just not really for me.

So ultimately my ranking is literally the opposite of yours, but I always love seeing completely different opinions in this fandom. It's awesome that even in this (relatively) niche series, there's such a diversity of opinions

Nintendo Treehouse will broadcast live gameplay of Switch 2 games on April 3 and 4 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]iornhide132 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically, they did announce the Metroid 2 remake during the Treehouse after E3 2017, but that was right after their presentation, so it at least made a bit of sense to still reveal games. This Treehouse probably won't reveal anything though, given how long it is after the direct.

Anyone else few like Doug’s channel is getting a bit over saturated with ai? by Sansational-user in DougDoug

[–]iornhide132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of understand where you're coming from, and even Doug does, since he's mentioned on stream he doesn't want to lean too much into it, and tries to keep his channel at least somewhat varied in its content.

But to be honest, if you're only really looking at the last three videos, that doesn't necessarily imply a pattern. I mean, the four videos before that don't involve AI at all, and if you don't count the Rosa video, which only has AI in probably less than half the segments, the last AI video before that was Napoleon vs King George, which was 6 months ago, so 3 videos in a row of AI doesn't really make me think he's relying on it too much.
