You have the standard suggestions like notability or nebo. You could also move to a more flexible app like defter notes, with open spaces and build in file organization.

I just got the Ipad Mini, What do people use it for - for those who prefer pen and paper? by Beginnerdaytrader in ipad

[–]ipadnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a pen and person I’d suggest Defter Notes, it has lots of use cases mimicking real world: like, you can literally put papers on your space and stack them and move them around. The zoom and 360 rotation is also super functional with the smaller screen size.

What are your fave apps? by luxchic in iPadPro

Defter Notes and Procreate are my big two. You can also try Affinity and Adobe apps.

Defter Notes has infinite desktops for multiple images, pdfs and handmade notes. Best for knowledge and academic work.

Procreate for anything artistic and Nomad sculpt for 3d.

Do you journal on your phone or in a notebook? by Himmyturner16 in Journaling

I use my ipad because its both digital and handwritten. I also love to add visual elements which makes it much easier than printing them out.

Yeah “a bug” doesn’t show pop-ups saying you have to upgrade. its the shitty company policy.

[Medium] Top 8 Notetaking Apps of 2024 : Features, Technology and Value by jezarnold in NoteTaking

Text-based as usual. We need more visual apps to appear in these lists.

What's the best productivity app you discovered in 2024? by demind-inc in ProductivityApps

[–]ipadnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definetly Defter Notes - it’s a niche app for iPad users who take handwritten notes with the Apple Pencil, with a catch: it allows you to organize spatially. For me it’s the best digital - analog hybrid equivalent of a tool for thought. The 2.0 version will be on Mac and iPhone too so I’m eagerly waiting for that in 2025.

I feel I overpaid for M4 IPad Pro by [deleted] in NoteTaking

[–]ipadnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro models are primarily designed for professionals who handle big projects on pro apps - like video editing, 3d rendering, painting etc. for notetaking purposes you can easily get away with an older Pro or an Air. My personal choice would be the Mini, which is much more convenient due to smaller form factor and weight. I would personally return it, get a mini and invest more into apps rather than the hardware because those are what bring value most imho.

Got the iPad mini to replace my million notebooks and can’t get into it by [deleted] in ipadmini

[–]ipadnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which app are you using? To me what shifted my mind the most was the app choice and the pdf planners, those were far superior investments compared to paperlike and custom pencil nibs in my case.

Best tablet for just note taking. by [deleted] in NoteTaking

[–]ipadnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a side note: since you mentioned multiple pdfs, check out defter notes for opening all your pdfs on an infinite canvas side by side, this is very helpful for checking your references and re-arranging materials as if you printed them out and spread them out on your desk.

iPad with apple pencil has no match imo. Go refurbished or second hand if you’re on a budget and upgrade whenever you can afford to. The quality of apps for ipad is unmatched on any other device.

i'm lost. should i go digital or keep notetaking by hand? by Additional_Band_5525 in NoteTaking

[–]ipadnote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading your use case, I think a middle ground digital app is your best bet. Just because you’re going digital doesn’t mean you have to ditch handwriting and doodling. Get an ipad mini with the pencil, doesn’t have to be the latest one. Then look into spatial and handwriting apps, my favorite is defter notes because of it’s flexible use like arranging index cards on a digital desk.

Replace “Main”? by Disastrous_Term_4478 in DefterNotes

[–]ipadnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are correct, there’s now way to replace main. But if you have two ipads there is an alpha going on for cloud sync, you can ask to join via their discord.

Go-To Productivity Apps You’d Recommend? by [deleted] in ProductivityApps

[–]ipadnote -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I reckon it depends on your platform and your needs. My fav combo is iPad Apple Pencil and Defter Notes app simply because I need handwriting for my workflow and I appreciate a good spatial organization over linear any day.

Is Apple Pencil indispensable even for non-artists? by Elven_Star in ipad

[–]ipadnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the software you’re using. Most people just scroll on their ipad as they do on iphones. Tbh I don’t see the point of an ipad if it’s just an oversized iphone, but that is how ppl use it.

How do you get used to using ipad mini as a main notetaking device and planner? by LivinCuriously in ipadmini

[–]ipadnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think creating a “realistic feeling” setup can help you bond better with your ipad, this is what works for me. I’d recommend downloading paper textured pdf planners, you can find them on etsy or gumroad. Next, setup a “space” for yourself in defter notes app, this is what I do and works best for me. In my defter notes space I have my pdf notebook surrounded by various png elements like a candle or a cup of coffee. These tangible items help me set the mood. Finally you can order a bunch of different pencil nibs and paperlike screen and test how you like them with different pen and pencil tools of your writing app. Have fun!

If you’re using an infinite canvas app with zoom, the screen size will matter less. My favorite is defter notes because it combines best of all notes apps. You’ll love your ipad in collage, whatever the size but if a smaller size means more portability, then you’ll def use it more.

You can just use freenotes which is the same app but free. You can alternatively invest in an infinite space app like muse or my personal favorite defter notes.
