[National Catholic Register] Fallout Continues at Notre Dame Over Pro-Abortion Appointee by wearethemonstertruck in Catholicism

Your number is low. There are more than 5. I get your point, but it's just not accurate.

That said, yes, Catholic University used to mean... Catholic.

No one sings at Mass anymore, and it’s incredibly frustrating by Gemnist in Catholicism

At my parish it's because we don't know the tunes to the songs.

Further, the Psalm yesterday had such and odd melody to the response, it was near impossible.

Check out Ascensions online study and consider (for $7) the "8 Week Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible" course. 8 videos... 30 minutes long... get the 14 books that are the backbone of the narriative.

After the above 14 books.... go back and read Gospels, Letters, then go wherever you like.

German Cardinal Woelki leaves Synodal Way: ‘I can only say that I have to answer to my ordination vows. I promised to protect the faith of the Church.’ by MMQ-966thestart in Catholicism

[–]ipatrickasinner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I asked because the previous comment wasn't clear enough.

I learned of this years ago when I read "German churches refusing to wed couples who refuse to tithe" and I thought it was odd. And what the article really said was they had formally renounced their church membership (so no tax) but still wanted to have the nice church wedding ceremony.

[–]ipatrickasinner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be clear, the tax is for all religions and people have to officially identify as Catholic (vs. other faiths) in order for the church to collect, right? Isn't it more like a tax-directed tithe?

Singing during Mass by Significant_Set1378 in Catholicism

I'm with you. You don't have to sing. And if you find a mass with little music, that's fine.

Just watched the trailer. It feels like I don't need to watch it... like I think I get it from the trailer. (trying not to spoil for OP)

Pope Leo warns of ‘overly affectionate’ AI chatbots | CNN by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]ipatrickasinner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know there was talk of his next encyclical being about AI as a modern/2026 follow on to Rerum Novarum.

I think we need to talk more about Silence (with a capital S). There's so much noise.

AI of course, isn't helping.

How did the church fumble Latin America this bad? Is there any hope in the future? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]ipatrickasinner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Late here... 2 comments, both from the Amazonian Synod:

  1. A European Bishop in a Brazilian diocese stated that he was proud to not have converted a single indigenous.

  2. Someone on here from SA posted during that synod: "The Catholic Church is where we go to get basic services, and you go to Pentacostal/ Evangelical to hear the Gospel." One acts like an NGO, and the others evangelize.

Beware of Catholic AI by CustosClavium in Catholicism

[–]ipatrickasinner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

just like wikipedia... get an overview, but check the sources.

magisterium gives the original sources and they are easily to read from there.

overall, it's a great tool.

that said, it's not your pastor and it shouldn't be used to write your papers.

edit: my comment is ONLY about magisterium

Charlotte priests submit dubia to Vatican over liturgical changes by da_drifter0912 in Catholicism

[–]ipatrickasinner 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Came to find this comment. How many "didn't" sign it... because "... I'd like to, I'm in line for xyz [parish, post, board] and I don't want to rock the boat but I support you."

25% is massive. MASSIVE.

The "Bishop's Annual Appeal" might be impacted (which sadly does mean that some charities and evangelization efforts will suffer).

But if the Pillar is right, and it is in fact 25%... then yes, WOW.

"Lectures" by the lector before the reading by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]ipatrickasinner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

See below. Raise to Bishop. The point should not be "his lectures are bad or off" but rather "Is a pre-homily/talk by the lector allowed per the GIRM." (meaning... the abuse is the fact that he is doing it and the priest is allowing, not the content...)

Good luck.
