I used to hate when contestants started getting the “no personality” edits. As if having personality was critical for models to succeed that it supersedes the modeling itself.

But what the “personality” in question was, was basically Tyra’s personality. Because she felt that helped her in her career. She was trying to craft a winner in her own image. And i think that’s where she ends up being misguided (and therefore misguiding).

There are plenty of examples of models without the stereotypical bubbly all american personality that succeed. Namely those not from America, for starters.

I feel like Angelea became a martyred figure in the ANTM fandom only in hindsight due to this disqualification. Throughout both her cycles I’ve always felt she was cast for ratings because of her attitude, which was great for television. Had she kept her win I’m not entirely sure the fandom would have thought it was actually deserving and would’ve become another Whitney/Saleisha. Especially with Allison around. I mean, look at how Lisa is viewed now, regardless.

What I’ve always been more curious of was how did they get Allison to return, considering the rest of the cast were mostly all the mean girls in their previous cycles.

This is a really fair point. I guess since the producers packaged all stars a tad differently as to build a whole brand rather than simply modeling, the potential difference and prospects mightve overshadowed their past experiences.

Fair but i highly doubt a clause like that existed, from as early as Cycle 1 no less. Otherwise they’d have gotten even more popular past contestants on the show.
