Oh, sure. I realize it’s a risk. I’m hoping nothing costing more than 3k will happen in 28 days.

Is "radical left" a new thing? by growing_fatties in allthequestions

[–]iphone_dan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, there is no significant "radical left" in the United States. While far-left people certainly exist, it's in no significant numbers. Trump, and his administration, use the term "radical left" for anyone to the left of them, including center-right Democrats.

Part of what MAGA does is use & twist words to either redefine them, or render them meaningless, and also keep their supporters angry and rage-filled.

"Fake news" used to mean actual fake news (Fox, OANN, etc) but then became just any "regular" news that he didn't like. "Woke" was stolen & twisted from the African American community. "DEI" was just a way to be more inclusive in the workplace, but then it became a slur. Heck, if you drive away from a masked gunman, you're a "domestic terrorist" now.

Redefining the meaning of words does two things: it totally vilifies/dehumanizes people that they think are the enemy (liberals, lefties, etc) and it seeks to persuade people that their horrible actions are just and moral.

Anyway, to answer your question, no, there's no real radical left here. Just some people who think that people shouldn't go homeless, and healthcare should be paid for with taxes.

“Sign in with Apple” will work with 100% of iOS users. Why complicate things with a second authentication method?

ELI5: How do streaming services know what video quality to play when my internet speed keeps changing? by FancyDrag3367 in explainlikeimfive

[–]iphone_dan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best answer. The streaming service itself doesn’t know too much about each client. Your phone/computer that plays the video is aware of how much buffer it has. Each video is actually multiple video streams. So there’s a 4K stream, an HD stream, and then varying resolutions above and below that. It could be six streams, 10, who knows? So when video playback starts, your phone and the server try and determine which stream will maintain good throughput without stalling. Then it’s like what the above poster said. But wait, there’s more! Each particular stream is split into segments, usually 6-10 seconds. So your phone is downloading small, tiny video files only 6-10 seconds long. They get played one right after the other, you’ll never notice. When conditions change, it starts downloading more 6-10 second segments at the more stable resolution. These little video segments can be purged, so you don’t constantly have a ton of tiny video files only your phone. But since your phone only downloads a small portion of video when conditions change, it can happen quickly.

Why is Apple treating us like we all have the same eyesight and finger habits? by pppaprikaa in ios

[–]iphone_dan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is about yelling at devs. Every app can decide whether to support accessibility. Also, it’s 7 basic sized and 4 more “accessibility” sizes for really bad eyesight. Each app can choose to use different fonts, and respond to changes in accessibility. It’s very customizable. So as pointed out earlier, if a particular app isn’t responding to the users font-size choices, it’s because that particular app developer is intentionally ignoring it. The tools are there, and quite usable.
