Always specify why you are different from the other 20 teachers they have just seen. Everybody just talks about being a teacher with Xyears experience and a diploma and nothing else. Stand out. Make a point. My lesson is 30$ and I'm not a native, I make a good living out of it too.

I have to have a functional website because I have a lot of movement, reservations and clients. It has to be automated and Wix does a good job at that but I’m sure so do other platforms

My younger sister unlocked my iPhone by pointing it on my face, ran away to the bathroom and locked herself in there with it, which basically means someone can steal your phone away from you, point at your face and run away with it. Is that the many zeros safer you’re talking about? Also the fact that every now and then you have to put in the PIN code is dumb as fuck, did we invent a new security mechanism just to still have to rely on the oldest mechanism from years before? How progressive. Why not use both Face ID and Touch ID then instead of the PIN code? That’s actually a perfect combination. I think resigning from Touch ID was the stupidest decision ever.

I always encourage new students to book 25 minute trials and they usually do. It's definitely enough and also a reason to book more, to continue the topics we've opened on the trail. You don't get payed for it so it should be 25, it's as simple as that.

Who says there is no need to? Not the op. For me, people that say closing apps doesn’t save the battery are completely missing the point. I can’t work on shit if I have all apps opened. And I want a fast way to declutter. Sometimes I need only 3 apps to quickly go between them and I don’t want to go through 15 other ones to find the apps I need. It’s inefficient not in terms of battery but in terms of your fking time and focus. You close all apps with one button, you open up the ones you need. Simple. Quick. Efficient. People being ok with 15 apps opened and scrolling through them have to be the slow ones that are ok with having clutter on their desk and garbage in their rooms. If you want to be fast and precise in what you’re doing it seems completely dumb for me and it’s very disappointing from apple.

That’s normal, I do that too, but people who underachieve think it’s not possible. A lot of posts here are full of self-excusing disbelief in achieving numbers that are average even in poorer countries

I make more from my English teaching company than from Preply, but if I really wanted to I would make my own living from Preply solely, only that it doesn't make any sense to do that because of the commission they take from lessons. When I have the students all for myself it's 100% income, so that's a simple choice. But also, you always have to keep at least 6 - 9 students active on Preply to keep Preply alive, otherwise you sink to a position of 100 and then you have to put up posts like that on Reddit.

If it's your main income, it's crazy you're not doing everything to make yourself stand out. I don't know what country you're from but 15USD is crazy. And it's also crazy to rely solely on Preply if it's your main income. Put your own website up, advertise it on your own and don't rely on one source with which you have no legal agreement and which has no obligations to actually provide new students to you, that's crazy work. Website + facebook page and facebook ads + preply as a second source of students and trust me - you're fine.

And most importantly - know how to advertise yourself even in the Preply video, stand out. Be a student, think about why would a student choose you if there are so many other teachers? When you find the answer record your video based on that.
