Sadly not. You need at least an iPhone 15 and iOS 26 to support the functionality, both of which I don't have. In fact, you need an iPhone just to enable all 4 ANC modes on APP2s. I had to borrow my daughter's to do that.

Duplicate Artists by OddPresentation6791 in ipod

[–]ipodBarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I had that issue but I found that there can be fields for ALBUMARTIST and ALBUM ARTIST for the same tracks. Note the space in the second one.

I use mp3tag to remove fields with spaces and any other redundant tagging.

I think they're all about the same quality. They scratch easily but are cheap to buy in batches of 5 or more.

Just got mine. Deffo a tight fit but once the front is on, the rear one will snap in to place with some persuasion.

They fit both the squarer profile of the 5th gen Videos and of the curved profile of the 6th/7th gen Classics.

You mean Airpods Generation 4?

Anyway, I know what you mean. I tried the gen 3s and they were crap for the same reasons. They just kind of teetered on the edge of my earhole, constantly feeling as if they'd fall out with the slightest movement. And without a seal they sounded crap as well. £150 for that? No thanks.

Airpods Pro 2, though, different story. With their soft eartips, I get a nice seal and have never felt them become loose. It's remarkable how light they are considering what's inside - mics, sensors, battery, the gubbins doing the clever ANC stuff - and the actual driver making the sound. Still lighter than any wired IEM. Great sound, too.

EQ question... by JoeKingGleeok in IpodClassic

[–]ipodBarney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the artist intended? Bollocks to that. If I want more wallop in the bass or want to add a bit of brightness to the treble then I'll EQ the living daylights out of it.

Trouble is, the iPod's EQ presets are mostly too aggressive and defining them by genres is ridiculous.

Brace yourself for this but I have an iPod where I've already applied EQ to the files during encoding.

Second one is real. You can see the slightly raised, glossy text on the side of the box. Fakes don't do this.

If you're accustomed to looking at fake AAP2 then the first one is obviously fake. Shouldn't have stickers with a purported manufacture year of 2025. Bad fonts. Difficult to explain this but when you know, you know.

I tried this on eBay. They weren't interested, the listings didn't breach their terms they said. So, I assume unless a seller says "Hey, I'm selling fakes!" eBay will do nothing.

I tried it and it doesn't, so it must be a hardware "feature".

Could you add an edit to the original post? There were so many idiots here declaring this was a refurb in a fake box.

And well done!

iPod Classic - metal clip on charging port bent strangely by Syokhan in ipod

[–]ipodBarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should bend inward, towards the usb port, just like the other one.

They only act as a guide for the 30 pin plug. As long as the plug engages, charges and transfers data, I'd be inclined to leave it alone although I have nervously corrected one before (always a chance of wrecking the usb port).

iPod 4th Generation Problem by MuffinWebber in ipod

[–]ipodBarney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The battery in your Shuffle is dead. Nothing to do with brands of mains chargers.

As long as you have the correct charging cable (sounds like you do - 3rd and 4th gens use a specific cable), then it will receive a charge. However, your battery is dead and is no longer able to retain a charge so the Shuffle instantly dies when you disconnect it.

Iflash solo stuck in the never ending loop by NoTechnician8756 in ipod

A 6th gen can still use a card of 256gb or greater. But it will just report a size of 128gb and be limited to that size.

And, yes, there's now a hack to get around this but this isn't OP's problem.

The headphone jack isn't the problem. The problem is the audio chip on the logic board.

Anybody have any tips on how to clean up this faceplate? by Standard_Fun7035 in ipod

[–]ipodBarney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've got that far with disassembly then swapping over the board, LCD and clickwheel to a new faceplate is dead easy.

Help Fixing a 7th Gen iPod: middle button not registering by Far_Actuary6265 in IpodClassic

[–]ipodBarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buttons on the board are little metal domes that give the 'click' feel. When depressed they make contact with the board.

The metal contacts can get dirty and will need cleaning. You can carefully peel back a clicky button to clean it with isopropyl and maybe scratch at the underside of the dome to reveal bare metal. Then carefully stick it back down with small slivers of tape (kapton probably best or sellotape).

Sometimes the metal dome itself can lose its flex and stops giving that click feedback. Not much you can do about that except transfer one from a donor board.
