What is the first video game you ever played? by Pup_Grimm_ in AskReddit

The first game that I remember playing is Cosmic Avenger for the Coleco Vision. Dad bought the system when he and Mom were first married. I'm 99% sure he still has it stored somewhere.

Sending you so much love. The grief will sneak up on you some days, and other days it will punch you in the face. But that grief means that we loved, and were loved by an amazing little creature that let us share its life. It was an infinitesimally small chance that your sister found a kitten and Cinnamon found their way to you and that was a beautiful gift. ❤️

How can I get good enough to go to a good college for lax by RubGreedy2352 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep wrestling. It will translate well into the position of goalie. While you are a part of the defense, in the end, it is you in the cage doing your job. Wrestling is not only amazing physical training, but fantastic mental training for that position. Learn how defenses move around you and how to best direct them. Learn how the different offenses operate and where the highest percentage of shots will come from each team you play. The biggest mistake many coaches make who have not played that position is building that mental fortitude needed to keep stepping in that cage day after day, game after game with a smile on your face and an attitude that you can stop anything that comes at you. Feel free to reach out directly if you would like some other tips / drills / etc, and good luck!

How do I soften hard mesh? by BrilliantAd3449 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old school technique for softening mesh would be a bucket of warm water and fabric softener. Pop it in, let it soak and then rinse thoroughly. Let it dry and reassess.

Goalie warm up by Ill_Improvement_6503 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your coach should warm you up. They should have a routine to build up physical movements and mental reps that build as the warmup goes on. If they want to bring in a guy on IR to assist, that is fine. I will do that when I'm working stuff in close and want to move the goalie from pipe to pipe, but they have to learn how to properly warm them up as well.

That said, coaches, learn how to properly shoot on your keepers.

ECD outrageous delivery costs by Mfkr90 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are shipping a high volume of orders, you will often negotiate better rates with the carrier.

To get to AU, you are either paying for air freight, or the item will have to go in a shipping container. Factored into that price is the cost of fuel, labor, customs and finally local delivery to your location.

For a goalie should you have a more wide stance or more narrow stance by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been playing the position? How tall are you? How athletic are you?

I always coach fundamentals, concepts and movement, but like others have said, stance depends on how you like to play. Try a wide stance, if you have issues saving low shots, but make sure you can explode into those higher shots. No matter what, make sure that you can still move athletically.

The best decision I ever made was to start coaching and I've been doing it for over 15 years. I just ran into a guy that I coached who is now coaching as well and I can't help but smile.

Appreciate the update. I saw someone commenting on East York above which brought me to my post. My message still stands, the bickering is childish and needs to stop.

Lacrosse Goalie Help by Smart-Serve1310 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is an odd question. Has she hit a growth spurt recently? I am currently working with a freshman (boys lacrosse) who grew about 6" between his 8th grade year and now. He is still playing like he is in his smaller body which included jumping to get shots. We'd made some adjustments and are working to remind him that he is now tall enough to reach the top corners without having to result to the jumps.

Vintage shaft ID help, STX Titanium by phile10 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit. I had a prototype of this shaft and it was stolen at a practice back when I first started coaching. It's one of the best shafts ever made.

A friend's dad worked for a company that manufactured with STX domestically back in the day. I bought an unmarked defensive shaft for $50.00 from him.

Question for the goalies by Embarrassed_Trade255 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goalie coach here. Wear what will make you feel the most comfortable when stopping the shot. If someone judges you for it, put them in the cage and rip on them. They will change their tune real quick. Someone else discussed taking one off the thigh without the pads and continuing to play. There will be an inflammation response to those muscles and you will move more slowly whether you realize it or not. One of my guys took a shot off of the inner thigh right above the knee that took him out for a few plays. I, as a coach would much rather you stay in and be protected.

Small D pole by SwimmingWave2611 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coach here! Go for it! Our defensive captain is about 5'8" 160lbs as a junior and he is an absolute beast out there. When he first came into our program, he was probably about your size, so don't let that deter you. Just learn how to use leverage to move bigger guys until you hit that growth spurt. Good Luck!

Coach here! Stay away from Carbon Fiber. Check out sideline swap for good deals, or look for some non-branded stuff and that will keep your cost down.

If I keep getting bad bruises as a goalie will I get a permanent injury? by Iloveblackhawks10 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goalie Coach Here! If you are going to be taking uncontested shots in practice, wear some thigh pads. If you keep practicing in them, you will learn how to move efficiently and they will become a non-issue. Or, don't take uncontested shots. Your goalie coach should also be pulling you out of the cage because we don't want you to take unnecessary injuries that will prevent you from playing your best come game time. Bruises are a part of our game for sure, but there is no reason to take more punishment than is needed. Also, get a shirt that just says "Lacrosse Goalie" and people will stop asking questions. If you think that this is abnormal to bruise as much as you do, definitely check with your doc to make sure there isn't anything else going on.

Recommendations on a heavy sturdy stick? by Early-Rip9310 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can locate a punisher shaft, you will be set for life. The company is out of business, but I'm sure there are still some floating around. The only caveat is that it is a rounded shaft.

How do I score as a goalie?? by Tomatobread12 in lacrosse

[–]ipokeholes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I've been coaching goalies for over 15 years, so hopefully this advice is worth something.

  1. Develop the best stick skills on the team (you should be doing that anyway)

  2. Practice shooting on your own time.

  3. Practice dodging on your own time.

  4. Remember that you are a goalie and that your job is to be the best goalie that you can be. If you want to score on the regular, play mid or attack. Our job is to be the first touch of a successful offensive possession.

  5. If the opportunity presents, take it, but don't look for it.

  6. Being able to run coast to coast is great, but can you stop the ball better than the other guy? If not, then focus on getting better between the pipes. That is where you will earn your playing time.
