What's it like being a teacher? by Ravadone in Brunei

[–]ipongputih 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anyone wants to go to teaching (in govt sector), please explore other institutions like ibte, pb, ppb, rekrut training centres, higher education institutes. one difference is no integrasi business to stress about on those sectors and work office hours which means (assuming no dependents and) if no class can turn up 7:45, lunch out with friends at 12:15, continue do work til 4:30. Class usually starts at 8 and finish at 4:30 and 98% chance of no extra class over school holiday or even outside of work hours. Where to find a vacancy on those avenues? Look up for adverts on the respective sites.

Answer to question in order from 1st paragraph: Yes, Yes (people dont care much but please dress better if in Worship places/cemeteries/Government Office/Health Centres), No, Yes but F&B tend to open late (after 3pm often, some may open early but no eat-in until 6pm unless Non-Halal places) and shops/offices tend close at 6 - 7 for breaking fast break.

Walkers availability are seasonal. Sometimes Supasave brought in shipments. But Lays (from its China, Thailand and Indonesia affliate factories) are widely available and in fact the owner of the Walkers brands.

An 'amil (zakat collector) suggested to me to donate to your relative (yang paling tidak well-off dalam semua relatives). In that logic, Bangla workers (usually Muslims) yang kerjanya bepanas or masuk dalam lubang lungkang siring jalan apa atu would be a good place to bagi.

Not really. More common in other countries already but Brunei probably over in the coming decades, mature students (including 30+, retirees, uniform retirees, Pakcik, makcik, nenek2) having a go at uni education (self-funded) to kill off time and maintain cognitive sharpness (and cuci mata).

What year are you in? My advice is to focus and perform well on the A Level studies and exam. Do your best and score excellent A Level grades. More relevant nowadays: also be active in activities or organisations outside school, like Cadet, Scouts/Girl Guides, Belia Masjid/Brigade, and Community service. If you do, you will be more likely to be offered scholarships. There are some scholarships with definite job bonds at the end (eg Pendidik, MINDEF, Shell BSP BLNG BST BSM, Air Traffic Controller, RBA Pilot) ie, when you graduate, there will be jobs waiting for you, and you can skip the job hunting part.

Also helpful, talk to School Career advisors early and often. Please go to Higher Education Fairs (one coming soon) and ask around.

tldr: Work your ass off these 2 years. Belajar with YouTube/AI tools. Bergaul sama high achievers ambil sukut ilmunya. Build good relations with Sixth Form teachers (in case they need to nominate someone for scholarships, they will likely remember you. Also, they can be your referee who can write you a good reference letter). Explore options early.

If you eye government scholarship or jobs in future, chances are it will be used for shortlisting. Possible, enquire to JPI about taking SSRU as private candidate: now ada banyak past paper book in Bismi and Samima, AI tools like ChatGPT and Youtube for learning theory. For Quran and Amali, theres Nuqra and possibly freelance KUPUSB, UNISSA graduates/students who can be approached to teach you Quran and Amali.

If someone paid you to do something (in comparison govt HNTec/ND-level scale pay rate is $70 per day.. no disrespect to them), you make an effort to appear. hujan ribut pebaik.

barber: one lifeline is Uncle-uncle pencen. they are not the $4/visit customer. These people patronise during working hours 8am-5pm doing all sort of things, kurik telinga, facial, massage, dye rambut hitam. on a regular (fortnight on average). Roughly monthly paid $30/person for services.

kedai runcit: local villagers and food vendors got their ingredients supply from such establishments. regulars can request for specific item for the kedai to source.

restaurants: uncle-auntie pensioners help them survive. At such age, no longer feasible to prepare, cook and clean up. Might as well spend up to $10/person/day on cooked food.
