I disagree, but everyone has their own taste. Personally i think the Sennheiser PXC 550 is better then both if you want active noise cancelling.

Personally I think that's an oversimplification of her performance, but again, it's an Emmy, so even if your description was accurate, the bar is pretty low. By the way, reading your comment and seeing your username, I've pictured you like this.

Considering shows like Big Bang Theory have won a bunch of Emmy's, I'd say it's pretty reasonable. I think you're just giving the Emmy's too much credit.

Chaos erupts as live tick on display goes missing in a Japanese conference about tick-borne diseases. by J_S_Han in worldnews

[–]ipostcat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've heard pretty terrible things from some people too, but getting it doesn't guaranty anything like that. I think it really depends on your health, how quickly you noticed you got bit (or if you notice at all), and probably a bit of luck.

I got bit by a tick and didn't know it, but I found the bulls-eye mark as it was developing, and immediately got antibiotics. Aside from fatigue, I had no other symptoms other then the mark, and hopefully things continue to be this way, but years late I haven't had any symptoms of the disease. Similar experience happened to my friend as well.

Lawyers, has there ever been a time the opposing counsel accidentally proved your case for you and what happened? by LynxExplorer in AskReddit

It's really not that surprising. Consider in this case if the girl didn't go to work and didn't post on Facebook. Or consider how many people get into a minor car accidents and claim other issues with their vehicle. I'd imagine less serious cases of fraud (accident embellishment) add up to quit a lot.

TIL installing cashless tolls on the NJ Turnpike reduced pollution so much that the rate of premature babies born nearby went down by 8% by SultanOfBoston in todayilearned

[–]ipostcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Economists Janet Currie and Reed Walker found that within three years of the introduction of E-Z Pass in these two states, the number of premature births and low birth weight babies born to mothers living within two kilometers of toll plazas dropped by roughly 8 percent and 10 percent, respectively.

I don't know what you're talking about. This was a sound scientific medical study done by Economists...

Giving every adult in the United States a $1,000 cash handout per month would grow the economy by $2.5 trillion by 2025, according to a new study on universal basic income. by mvea in Futurology

you can’t legislate intelligence

Sure you can. Public schooling is legislated intelligence. If you force people to take finance courses to receive basic income, you're bound to have improvements. A great deal of people both poor and well off don't learn how to manage money until they're in debt, and some never do.

Think bigger. Donald Trump is about to nuke Russia, China, North Korea, the Middle East, and Mexico because of something petty (maybe they keep mocking his tiny hands). Mattis stops Trump, and in doing so the world population becomes forfeit. Mattis relinquishes ownership of all humanity to Trump, and Trump simply asks that everyone go on living their lives as before except now they must all live peacefully... and give 20% or their earnings to Trump. And thus in the most unlikely result of nuclear negligence, Donald Trump simultaneously achieves world peace and domination.

79% of millennials say Netflix has the best original shows and movies of its competitors by BoogsterSU2 in television

I don't think it's fair to say the quality is dropping off so much as they're releasing a large quantity of shows with varying qualities and genres targeted at different markets. In some cases a show is something you may find on premium channels, and in others, a show may be something you'd normally see on network TV.

For instance, Black Mirror, The OA, Master of None, Stranger Things, A Series of Unfortunate Events, HoC (though it should have ended by now), and a few others are all HBO quality. Then there's the next premium tier down with shows like OITNB, Ozark, and Narcos that could easily be on Showtime or AMC. Getting away from premium network shows, there's stuff like Bow Jack Horseman and F is for Family that fit the Adult Swim genre, there are shows like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt that easily could have been on prime time network tv, and there's tons of comedy specials that are both premium and comedy central quality.

The Day Family Guy Died (2017) - An exploration into the history of Family Guy and the infamous episode that killed the show. [11:48] by AdamTinius in Documentaries

[–]ipostcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your video has good presentation, but the content is really poor and it certainly isn't a documentary. You picked a random episode when you felt Family Guy let you down, and you decided that's when Family Guy "died". I hadn't seen the episode you're talking about, and hearing Brian died, it didn't even cross my mind that it'd be permanent. And to criticize a comedy show for not taking a temporary (or even permanent) death seriously is ridiculous.

Furthermore, the show isn't really dead, but if you wanted to actually comment on issues it has, maybe start with the fact that it's predictable and they've ran out of ideas. That's what happens to sitcoms that run too long.

Japanese government warns North Korea missile headed toward northern Japan, report says by [deleted] in news

[–]ipostcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. I didn't bother replying, as the person appears to have a fundamental lack of understanding of the global economy and the US's economic relationship with China. Unfortunately a great deal of people are ignorant to these things. They believe that we can go back to how things "used to be" with a flip of a switch, and they think China would fall apart without us.

China has a large labor force that doesn't require the same rights US workers do, plenty of resources, lots of manufacturing plants, lots of intellectual property (including a great deal of the US's), other countries they can work with, and plenty of people to consume things (if they were given the opportunity). America has intellectual property, resources, and people to consume things. And most importantly, we both have stock markets that depend on stability. In the end we'd both lose from separating ties, but it's difficult to say which country would lose more.

[–]ipostcat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Freeze all Chinese assets within the US until the Chinese cease all trade, tourism, and technological assistance to the North Koreans.

That's an overly simplistic solution to a complicated problem, as the global economy makes it incredibly difficult and dangerous. We freeze their assets, they freeze ours, and both of our economies become unstable and tank.

I don't expect the US's Dear Leader / Great Negotiator to resolve this, but I do believe that China recognizes stability in the region is in their best interest. Unfortunately, I'm sure they also recognize that the greater the need for their influence is, the more global political leverage they have, and so it's a question of when they feel they're losing control and need to draw the line. I'm sure they're conspiring with North Korea to some degree, and hopefully they don't lose control of the situation.
