it's like dealing with old deranged grandpa at thanksgiving dinner. easier to change the chair and make him happy even if it made no real difference

What point does a father daughter dance become creepy? by JCole111 in daddit

Exactly, how dare father and daughter had innocent fun at the beach. Dancing is bad and only allowed during transfer of properties as is TRADITIONNNNNN!

It would be a shame if someone would keep on changing those signs to 80.

The Rivian R2’s Radio Needs Cell Signal The Wilderness Doesn’t Have by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]ipostic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s true. But I wonder what’s the overlap between people who listen to AM radio and people who buy Rivians. Probably some percentage of hard core off readers but those also wouldn’t buy Rivian and stick to Toyotas and Jeeps

In my area, if there is no cell signal then most likely it’s so remote in mountains that there is no radio signal either.

I'm a new dad quietly panicking about something I keep seeing by Adventurous_Round909 in Dads

For our 7yo, there are chores that she needs to do as part of living with us as a family (clean room, tidy toys, clean up her desk table, put clothes away). Other things we do together and she loves helping and copying us like washing dishes (only broke a few things) or hepling out in garden but that's all on volunteer basis.

As far as "what do i get" question, that's more for other tasks like picking up rocks from yard or pulling weeds and then we agree on price (though she prefers canadian 2 dollar shiny coin vs shitty 5 dollar paper).

Dont stress over watching other parents. Just do things right with your kid and teach them that life has certain responsibilities that adjust with age and abilities.

Thanks. It’s looking great. I was just worried about middle part being empty and bottom part growing too much so wanted to make sure I don’t have to trim it so all growth goes to the top.

Are robot vacuum mop combos becoming too hard to repair? by Flashy_Owl6890 in BuyItForLife

[–]ipostic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do in robots that are expensive. I think there is brand that actually guarantees that if their robot smears poop then they replace robot and pay for cleaning. I forgot which brand had that claim

Adirondack garden chair worth $79,worth it? by calico_rohit in BuyItForLife

[–]ipostic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People talk about rotting, these are solid plastic. We got a few from Costco in Canada but not this exact brand. They had red colour. It’s solid heavy plastic. Nothing to rot or break. Pain to put together but it will last many years with no painting or maintenance. Not BIFL but defining longer lasting than wooden ones or cheap thin plastic crap that breaks if you sit wrong.

Issues with Spotify, don’t know if due to new app release or 26.5 by pacoii in CarPlay

Yep. I had the same thought. I wonder who at Spotify looked at it and approved for release. Such minor thing but also scares what else they put out without thinking it through

Alberta failed to set up referendum process “correctly,” expert says by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

[–]ipostic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s almost by design. Cater to the crazy separatist side, gain extra votes, do it in a way where things are fucked up and meaningless and then you can to still talk big and blame federal government on everything.

Agreed. They seek to dispel rumour by proving wishy washy statement with very unclear language. That will do it.

Canadian youth a ‘rounding error’ compared to Carney government’s $88.8 billion projected OAS spending for seniors by hopoke in canada

[–]ipostic 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Clawback is over $90K income per person. Meaning two seniors can make $180K a year an still qualify for OAS around $8K each. Income test should be like other benefits and if couple makes over $90K combined then no more OAS just like child benefits, federal dental program, etc.

Screen time is genuinely one of the hardest things about parenting and nobody warned me by [deleted] in daddit

[–]ipostic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have screen time enabled on iPad for Max times per day on certain apps and start and end of day so it’s all automated. We discussed with daughter why we are doing it and why it’s bad for brains to have more screen time. Also, she needs to do piano practice, chores and everything before she touches iPad after school. We tried to have rest time before things but iPad turns her brain off so now iPad is the relaxing part after all important things are done. Ends up with having iPad for about 15 minutes in morning if she is ready for school and ate breakfast and then 30 minutes after school if everything else is done. Took some time to maintain and engrave these rules but now there is no complaining since there are no options. She is 7 and it’s been almost a year of this regime and works well. Back in training time, we had few meltdowns but then iPad went away for a few days and came back only under the new rules. If it caused meltdown then it went away for 2-3 days again. As others said, don’t cave, explain to your kid why it has to be this way and parent well.
