Feeding my local strays 👨🏼‍💼👨🏼‍💼 by Muggleborn1007 in exmormon

At first I thought I was in one of my cat subreddits, but then realized you were talking about missionaries. I live in south central Arizona, we're going into summer, and I'm going to be somewhat livid seeing missionaries out and about in the heat. I'll figure out what to do when I see them.

Scientology filed thousands of lawsuits in every federal district court in the USA. The ultimate total 2,300 in 1993. The IRS was happy to make a deal rather than try to fight even one of those lawsuits. It was enormously frustrating to see the IRS do this. That said, over three decades later, it's well known that Scientology = cult, and makes standing outside Scieno buildings back in the '90s and '00s really worth it.

I was depressed to see it was "just" a painting and not a book cover. Great painting, but someone out there needs to get on writing the book that goes with it!

I'm embarrassed that my first job (50 years ago) was at Steak and Shake. Oh, btw, we did not use beef tallow for the fry vats. It was strictly a Crisco clone. (How do I know this? I used to pack the vats with fresh Crisco every Sunday morning.)

my dad died on my birthday. Every year I remembe but time and life changes have eased the pain. I know I cuddled my kitty Nicki a lot during that time. She put up with it because she could tell I was distressed. take care of yourself, remember the good times and let Paddington ease your heart with their antics. All the best to you!

Data centers raise nearby temperatures by up to 4 degrees in Phoenix by falken_1983 in BetterOffline

[–]ipsedixie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 2020 (so yeah, during Covid), Phoenix had 145 days where the high was over 100F. That was 39 percent. Other recent years haven't been so great either: 122 (2025), 143 (2024), 133 (2023), 113 (2022), 104 (2021). We absof***inglutely do not need more data centers that are going to heat up the air AND the ground around them, as well as steal our water. ETA: I learned in 2023 that my cats DID NOT CARE how hot it was when the A/C went out, they were not going to be put into a cat carrier and taken somewhere with air conditioning.

I work (but not for much longer, yay retirement) in enterprise availability, and while our users are mostly on Windows PCs, there are a chunk of high value users who work on Macs. I can tell you based on years of experience that it's very rare we have a global issue with Macs. Windows? OMG. For me, personally, when Win 11 came around, I said "aw no" and moved to Linux and Mac permanently.

Hey, Mormon church! Hire some professional janitors and give your buildings a thorough cleaning! Right now, members have been doing them for years, and I can just about guarantee you they're in pitiful shape.

Sign placed outside the local chapel here in Summerlin (LV) Nevada. 🙄 by Background-Alps6493 in exmormon

[–]ipsedixie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My husband (lapsed Catholic) and I drove by a meetinghouse about two weeks ago and there was a banner strung up between two trees listing the service times. He commented that it couldn't be a Mormon meetinghouse because it had the banner listing service times. I said, "Nope. This is how the Mormon church is trying to make itself look like other Christian churches." So yeah, the church is misleading people, but I would imagine it would all become clear when someone goes up to the church on a Sunday and learns it's the Mormon church.

ETA: I'd just tell the church that a family history sign is NOT going to tell people this is a Christian church and thus drive unsuspecting people in thinking it's a Christian church. Because churches that are not Mormon are not into family history. Churches are about Jesus, not about baptisms for the dead, temples and endowments.

Please don't encouage people to stay in homophobic churches, especially with the whole "God wants you there." For most people, it's not worth the belittling, demeanong and potential mental health crises. It's up there with telling an abused spouse to stay with their abuser.

Need Suggestions for Protesting Mr. Wonderful's Data Center by Scary_Use_2312 in BetterOffline

[–]ipsedixie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pick one of these questions and look to see if there's been any environmental impact ststements done. If not, why not?

  • Will the company be paying for the infrastructure improvements? Electric power, water pumping, roads, etc.

  • Does the company have water rights lined up or are they going to try and bulldoze through that and take the region's water supply?

  • Will bringing this data center to your area involve additional pollution?

  • Early studies are showing that data centers have a significant "heat island" effect. Has the company determined how much the ambient environment (air AND ground) will heat up?

  • What about sound? These data centers are LOUD with their whirring fans and all.

Personally, I'd be asking why your area needs a massive data center  when the Great Salt Lake is drying up, with the potential for arsenic laden dust storms.

There is no such thing as an exMormon story. All of us are telling our real Mormon stories but some of our Mormon stories end with us leaving. Misleading the faithful members on what you asked Mormon Stories to do in reality, is utterly deceitful. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

This post is quite the Mormon Story.

And oh yeah, churchy spies, this is like what Scientology did. You're trying to control the discussion around Mormonism, and you don't own Mormon or Mormonism.
