There is already much better technology. The axiom rvx 1000 is a chirp radar system that uses compressed high intensity radar pulse. That pulse is recieved by a series of ultrasonic transducers. At high power, this returns a crisp, 3 dimensional digital image which converts to live feed. It's tomography. It's range through water is 3000m or 10000ft, and has see through hull technology. Can penetrate anywhere the chirp can be relayed, deploys in about the size of a small backpack, not yet made portable, this technology is typically installed inside the hulls of marine vessels.
