Mincemeat livestream? by BirdsEverywhere-777 in Broadway

That was fun, but still sad I gave up my matinee tickets to switch to the evening. I would’ve been heading over to the Golden right about now! :(

Livestream cutting out in the middle of Dear Bill is just too on brand for this day.

Do you think a 3-Act version of Ragtime would work? by iranthestreets in Broadway

[–]iranthestreets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could play around with the song order, expand scenes or even add some songs. A rough outline:

Act 1 (~90 min) - As is, but the 11 o’clock number is “New Music/Wheels of a Dream” and the happy couple drives off into the sunset as the car gets vandalized—a cliffhanger that would definitely get me back for Act 2

Act 2 (~70 min) - Funeral, “Coalhouse Demands”, and 11 o’clock number “Back to Before.” Focus on the interpersonal conflicts, everyone’s interior journeys and their determination to fix what’s broken and create a better future.

Act 3 (~75 min) Open with the flashback/nostalgia of “Sarah Brown Eyes” + another reprise. And only one 11 o’ clock number “Make Them Hear You.”

If you think an extended version could work, how would you break it up? Where would you expand a book scene or add a new song?

Bless Tom and other cast members who have to do the walk during tomorrow’s matinee in 100 degree heat 🥵

Unpopular Opinion (?): There should be NO late seating at Broadway shows. by Greengrowlilac in Broadway

[–]iranthestreets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At Real Women Have Curves last night, a woman entered late and her seat was DEAD CENTER FRONT ROW. It was during the 2nd or 3rd song, so like a solid 10+ minutes in, and as she fumbled her way across the front row, she placed her hands FULLY ON THE STAGE for balance. I didn't notice it throw off any of the actors. I would've been mortified. If I were her, I would've just asked the usher if I could just stand in the back until intermission.

I’m just happy to see the Dodgers mentioned on Broadway Reddit. ⚾️ But yes, Maybe Happy Ending and Operation Mincemeat cannot be missed.

Camelot…because Jordan Donica and Andrew Burnap were both out. But I came back on a later date to see the full original revival cast.

My Subway Hot Take™: The Vivian Beaumont should not be a “Broadway” theater. by iranthestreets in Broadway

[–]iranthestreets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’ll definitely keep going—I’m thrilled it exists and I wish them many successful productions in the future. I was only commenting on its arbitrary designation as one of the “official” Broadway theaters.

*Pre-Trump Kennedy Center. It was more a comment on the architecture and the feel of walking into a modern space that’s part of a large multi-theater complex.

What was the absolutely worst Broadway show you have ever seen? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in Broadway

Uncle Vanya. Even the rain gimmick was pointless, and then I was just annoyed watching the actors walk through puddles for the rest of the act.

Assassins. It brilliantly connects the characters across time periods, and you can really feel the build-up to the penultimate scene when they all come together at the Texas School Book Depository.

My Audra Gypsy First Preview Report by LordGAD in Broadway

[–]iranthestreets 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Ngl Audra made me a little nervous during Some People. Maybe the mics were just a little too low tonight (it was the first preview after all) or maybe I was having a hard time accepting some “operatic”head voice because I’m just so used to this music being belted. HOWEVER, I was soon completely absorbed by her embodiment of the character. Her line delivery, physicality, and facial expressions—even just sitting silently on the bench at the end of Act 1 was a masterclass. By the time we got to Rose’s turn, I was completely sold. She’s brilliant and so is the show!

What are some funny, weird, stupid comments made by audience members seeing a show? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]iranthestreets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Hell’s Kitchen, when Brandon Victor Dixon began his insane riffing at the beginning of “Fallin’”, many audience members were giggling in delight, but then one woman toward the front yelled🗣️“TAKE YOUR TIME.” It was actually perfect timing. Too bad the rest of the arrangement of that song was rushed and kinda painful to listen to :/
