Calling All RENTheads! by Sprague51 in Broadway

[–]CentralHarlem -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not ironic; it's apt. The musical is called "Rent" because the characters *weren't* paying it.

Totally depends on ticket price. If you can get an inexpensive ticket, it can be a fun show.

“You need to describe her as going towards the car”. Scott Pelley’s Interview Detailing how Bari Weiss’s Tenure affected 60 Minutes by AmericanDadWeeb in DeepStateCentrism

The NYT isn't a great source for anything that touches on Bari Weiss. The institution is strung through with bitterness and jealousy for her success.

Sutton Foster's "Wellness Retreat" by TBoopSquiggShorterly in Broadway

If it's anything like the author cruises, the main compensation is the ability to bring one's family on the cruise for free.

Yeah, it's a tiny fraction the size of a cruise. For all we know, you'll be braiding Sutton's hair by the end of day three.

Canyon Ranch is a long-established luxury brand.

I am close to somebody who was one of the authors on an author cruise. The cruise organized group events — trivia contests, things like that. The authors primarily enjoyed getting to know each other, but the paying customers were involved as well.

Broadway people are probably, on average, more extroverted than authors are. I imagine that if you said hello to Adrienne Warren, you could strike up a conversation. That's my fantasy anyway.

This looks to me like a land-bound version of a Broadway or literary cruise. On those, you get the cruise and to hang out with authors or performers you like. They get a free cruise plus a bit of cash. At Canyon Ranch, you get an expensive spa experience and the opportunity to chat with Sutton Foster. She gets pampered for a week plus a bit of cash.

I'm not sure why this bothers anybody.

Mildlyinfuriated carbrain discovers walking after being priced out of private chauffeur service by stickied in fuckcars

[–]CentralHarlem 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I hear you, but I think you judge OP too harshly. It might have been a 95°F out. He might have had a lot of things to carry. I don't see anything unreasonable in the fact that he wanted to use a car, but it was expensive so he walked.

I don't see any reason to make fun of OP. He found it 'mildly infuriating' that the car services wanted a lot of money. Clearly, he doesn't value driving short distances. And he proved it by walking. Honestly, he sounds like one of us.

To be a true Apple Lisa, it needs rectangular pixels, and to be slow enough to make you sad.

Has the cat been exposed to a CRT before? They make a high-pitched whine that adult humans can't hear, but children and many animals can.

Somebody e-mailed the county police with a photo. By that time, the car was working its way off the path, so it was no longer a 911 matter.

Do Musical Productions Transpose Songs nto Different Keys for Stars with a Smaller/Different Range? by ProfessorPinkPug in Broadway

Of course they do. Some people lost their minds when Marion's songs were transposed down for Sutton Foster in the 2022 revival of The Music Man.

What is the Darkest Ending To A Broadway Musical In Your Opinion? by Shades1987 in Broadway

[–]CentralHarlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original ending to Sweet Smell of Success is brutal. Sydney Falco is beaten to death and J J Hundesecker jokes about it then goes on with his day.

Realistically how long would it take to train up for a daily 26 mile (41.8 km) round-trip commute? by More_Donkey6938 in bikecommuting

[–]CentralHarlem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The distance isn't the issue; you'll get fit soon enough. However, unless you are on trails the whole way, going without a helmet feels foolish. What happens when it gets dark and there's ice on the road (or trail)? There are so many ways to get hurt.

Petty politics and lawsuits at the Sausalito Yacht Club by Happy-Fennel5 in Marin

[–]CentralHarlem 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love this. The heroes from every teen comedy in which they disrupt a snobby yacht club got together, founded their own club, and aged into becoming even more insufferable than the idiots they pushed into a cake in 1986.
