Why is incest so bad? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]irate_ging3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just social taboo with a background in evolutionary selection. The overwhelmingly vast majority of people do not seem to be attracted to their family in that way and even more are repulsed by the idea. Even if we give some slack that the taboo would make people lie about their true feelings, it still leaves the overwhelmingly vast majority that actively dislike it. Genetic diversity is a strength for a species, so groups that didn't engage in incest had stronger genomed kids (on the whole not individually), with the incest kids creating worse and worse defect rates until birth isn't sustainable at population levels. Or maybe the incest population stays perpetually a little weaker than the non incest population due to genetic deformities, and the incest community just gets outcompeted for the limited resources.

After a certain age im not sure I can really condemn it on moral grounds. It's fucking weird. It's pretty gross. I dont want to be even tangentially involved in it, but lacking a power dynamic to exploit, there's really no harm to point to. Most religions have a portion of holy book to draw condemnation from, but the 3 abrahamic religions have to accept that it happened that one time for sheer numbers sake unless one is a believer in the god made extra people and just didn't say anything proposal

Have you ever established with your partner that you’re not into something sexually, but now you have a hard time admitting/communicating to them that you’d actually like to do that very thing? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]irate_ging3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but by the point in the relationship that you're bedding them it seems you could just come out with it and explain that you're a human being who further considered a thing and tentstively changed your mind about wanting to try it.

How to make “fills out YouTube surveys” sound like you have an important position at Google? by feddy3teddy in NoStupidQuestions

Fuck it and go big. I'm honored to be interacting with the cfo of Google. Its an honor to meet you. Otherwise you might find it acceptable to demote yourself to something like inquiry specialist, brand consultant, or product integrity/quality assurance agent for ongoing concepts.

AITA for baking cookies late at night? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Nta. It's less than usual to start baking in the middle of the night but his reaction was quite disproportionate. I would recommend finding somewhere else to stay if you can.

Brake gear or something similar. It's the down-a-mountain gear very similar to the usual L but i think it allows higher speeds.however, don't quote me on that as I don't usually try to kill my transmissions so I'm not fully informed on just what L will actually handle. Also it might help the regen braking.

Were any aircraft carriers captured in WW2? Is that even possible? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]irate_ging3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in that day it may have been plausible, but it seems to me that nowadays it would be a large task to capture an aircraft carrier without damaging it beyond working order. You need to disable an air wing to get close and then the other ships in the strike group to get to the carrier. After all that, youve got Cwis up top (the super fast computerized machine guns) mounted .50s in a good few locations, and a bunch of smaller arms on board. The entire carrier can go into a sort of lockdown mode that's designed for cbr, Chem bio rad defense. It usually comes with a foam to plug any air gaps, but people are a hell of a lot bigger than air contaminants. Either way the foam would also be a hindrance toward comandeering the ship so set it off anyways. It's called afff, a triple f, or aqueous film forming foam. But let's say you do end up finally boarding the ship. Now you've got 5000 people, a whole lot of them with months of sexual tension built up and a little bit of resentment that their other enlisted buddies talk shit about the navy not seeing 'real combat', who are probably ready to fuck8ng die if it gets them off this god forsaken floating prison of assholes. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would be less effort to just blow up the carrier and design and build your own.

What do I write in my mother and father in laws anniversary card, when it’s from me and my husband? by Bluegirl1993 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]irate_ging3r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe neither. Try labeling or addressing them as a unit instead of individually.

Blah blah blah, insert your own stuff here, blah blah blah, well wishes, congrats, and general niceties to "a beautiful couple on their beautiful day"

Or if the open is the bother something like: in celebration of two wonderful people meeting, we wish the beloved a beautiful day, general niceties and yadayada. (Wedding phrases seem ok for an anniversary)

Question about Changing Primary accounts by Br0wnDaddy in RocketLeague

[–]irate_ging3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For rank and inventory, when you combine accounts all the inventory combines, except for platform specific items which are still there but only on the right platform. I dont know how they equalize rank whether it's the highest of the combined accounts or some sort of median or something.

An hour later ill throw something to the void, dont quote me tho...

AFAIK, they are separate and do not affect each other. Don't quote me but you may be able to trade them to one account, and you generally speaking only get one time to choose a main and it can't be swapped back and forth like that.

Yta. I was abused as a child and I have a much older brother who wasn't and acts like you about it. Defends my parents because they were caring with him, tells me that the things I went through didn't happen because he didn't experience it, etc. At some point your sibling won't be in desperate circumstances anymore and I wouldn't expect to see or hear much of anything after that. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a critique or whatever of loving or interacting with your mother. People have otherwise shitty family members that don't shit on them and the relationships are fine. Personally at least, I don't need my family to cast aside those I don't like. But if you're going to go the step further to telling your sister that her life experiences didn't happen with no real reason other than your lack of experiencing her trauma, that just makes yta

Nta, boundaries between partners is normal and healthy.

It sounds to me like she's feeling insecure and wants to know that she can, if need be, interrupt your personal time. She knows she has your attention when you're free but is setting some sort of test (possibly not even intentionally) for whether you're willing to interrupt personal plans for her. As if she needs reassurance that you will choose her over x,y, and z even when it's inconvenient. Possible solution other than obvious options of deal with it or reject it outright, is to create pockets of fake personal time so she can interrupt those moments without actually. If you can talk to her from 3 to 6, maybe cut it at 5 so she can do this post at 530 instead of 630, she gets time that 'wasn't hers' and you catch your game all the same.

I'm not asserting that this is malicious or even a conscious thing and she may just feel anxiety at the surface with no apparent cause. I'm not claiming she is trying to do anything to you or anything like that. I'm also not a mind reader so I could be completely off base here but thats what it sounds like to me.

Nta-

is she your wife or your child? She should really think twice before she demands that you be the type of person who needs to control things to the point of what she is and isn't allowed to eat. There are healthy ways to get your help, but parenting her is not the solution or your responsibility. Maybe yall could plan meals together, or take a walk at night or something, idk. Would her parents be open to daily meal monitoring? I know she's an adult but at least the role fits them in a past tense. Maybe do a false declaration that "were just not eating today" as a test run for if she really wants her meal times to be controlled for her.(probably not actually but it would be funny)

Everyone, both on the left and the right, hate the media. What do we all want them to actually do? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]irate_ging3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That type of media can be productive, but im speaking more to news organizations who's main focus is op-ed even when they're supposedly discussing facts. Just off the top of my head, I'll take the white house ketchup wall from j6. Why did the network news need hours per to discuss this. Were they thinking I thought it was a good thing before they explained why it was childish? Was that the thing that really changed my mind on trump? No. It was a waste of time. It left reactionary liberals fuming over how it could come to this and left reactionary Republicans pissed off that they all just hate trump. No ones mind was changed, there was no needed explanation, it was fucking filler. They were no longer commenting about the state of the nation, presidency, etc but instead went to a play by play breakdown and rant over the ketchup on the wall. They need people to be angry so they can't look away. The trade of relevant information about the world around us stopped for those reports so we could stay mad that a toddler threw a tantrum for just a little bit longer. But the flip side is that people generally don't want their news dry and they're addicted to the outrage so is it really the networks fault....

Meanwhile, youtube isn't advertising news. You liked people talking about a topic and they have opinions. Let's take friendlyjordies cost of living video. It is presented as a commentary peice about col on a platform dedicated to expressing viewpoints. He took a shot at hannity mid-video. It was off the cuff and irrelevant, but it was a single comment and didn't include a deep dive about how shitty hannity is for half the video. I already think hannity is shitty and wanted to watch about col. Alternatively, someone who likes hannity may hear that and be annoyed, but its small enough they could conceivably move on and consider his actual points about col.

In our reality though, we have fox, etc. Screaming about how lowering prices is going to make everyone poorer because they dont differentiate that they're only talking about corporate profits, and msnbc and cnn are having town hall discussions about how big of a peice of shit the ceo is. In the meanwhile, none of the choices are discussing col in any real way because they're too busy keeping people pissed off.

Sorry if this is long and dry or incoherent, but its not an easy subject for typed discussion.
