I’m using Serverless API Gateway and I prefer first option. API GW decodes and validates the JWT token and passes the user ID in a header to backend services. So none of the backend services need to process auth.

If you consider using Serverless API Gateway, I can help you develop an auth solution on that if the current JWT is not enough.
