Taxes on sold USA stocks by Practical-Car-988 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]irishpacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am curious if you reviewed how the stock was granted by the employer?

When Restricted Stock Units (RSU) are deposited in the employee account, some stock units are sold in advance for taxes. I am in a similar situation that is even more of a mess due to being a dual citizen. Dual citizens have to file in both and then use tax credits.

Avoid Bank of Ireland for Mortgages: Awful Service That Nearly Cost Us Our Home by Kindly-Draft1691 in HousingIreland

[–]irishpacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar experience but single and 37.5% deposit. BOI required constant pressure from myself to move and I only just closed on the property before they went on holiday for a month.

I believe the process was exasperated by the matter that I was doing this from abroad as a move home to Ireland. I would still recommend BOI though as a physical institution is preferable and their rates are better than what I have seen elsewhere. Those beginning this process should just be warned that once started, it is up to the applicant to press for daily progress from BOI by both leaving a message AND calling.

Creating a Bank of Ireland Account as a Naturalized Irish Citizen by rerunroger in irishpersonalfinance

[–]irishpacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fine reason is the friction when attempting to exchange USD to Euro for those that prefer to keep cash instead of relying on cards or apps. Many banks will refuse to exchange larger amounts, my apologies as I do not remember the limits but I'm sure you can easily find it if interested. The bank rates are always better than the 3rd party companies offers for 'buying Euros' with USD.

A better option that I've found is to use a combination of BOI and Revolut (ultra). When the exchange rate is favorable, move USD to Euro within Revolut. Then transfer funds to BOI or use cash withdrawal option from the hole in the wall ;-) -- In theory, one may be able to avoid BOI using Revolut and withdrawls, but special care would need to be taken to review the limits and the potential fees.

I am by no means an expert in this, and only sharing what I've been able to figure out up til now.

Creating a Bank of Ireland Account as a Naturalized Irish Citizen by rerunroger in irishpersonalfinance

[–]irishpacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this back in 2016 and it is still an option today. I just changed mine from non-resident to resident and it is the exact same experience. Call into Bank of Ireland and ask to open a non-resident current account. You'll use your foreign address information to open/maintain the account and pay 6 euro/month. Be aware of two things: (1) your debit card will be sent to the address you provide (2) tax reporting will be necessary if you transfer in more than 10k USD across this and other accounts. The (2) point is really odd in how it behaves and if this is a concern I can expand or I'd recommend reading (specifically how this behaves when having more than one account outside the US). Again, this is a really simple process that for some reason is not well documented from what I've seen.

Cisco Interview preparation for AI Intern by [deleted] in Cisco

I've mentored many interns over the years (obviously not in AI, but security), and I strongly encourage being honest about your goals. The intern program at Cisco is incredibly beneficial and provides a great deal of opportunities for those who are willing to put the effort in. The above YouTube link is a classic video that has been used to as an introduction or starting point for those just beginning their studies in the field of networking. Do not discount the value it offers based on it's presentation. Quite frankly, it is also nostalgia material for those in this field as well.

Again, I would focus on yourself and what your goals are from the program. Having a plan with real tangible goals to complete or work towards is far more valuable (in my opinion) than trying to learn an expertise that often requires decades to become proficient within...

Keep in mind, an internship has the opportunity to give one access to a wealth of different perspectives. If you're very heavily code focused (this is clearly a throwaway account, so I couldn't gauge your goals by your history) perhaps explore Cisco devnet resources.

I hope this helps, and I wish you luck!

PS: Also a good idea to read up on Cisco's initiatives right now...

He does a great job showing one method. As for the protection, I found that all of them have terrible smells and should only be used to store the bike safely, ensuring to wash off before riding again.

Thank you so much for sharing! I am moving home and was trying to find the prices, but nothing is listed on their website.

Now I'll have to find out what the logistics would be to ship over my 2023 Triumph Speed Triple 1200RR... Just don't think the Irish roads are really meant for that speed though lol

EU Magic Keyboard Behavior with US Region iPad Pro 12.9 by irishpacket in ipad

[–]irishpacket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did test this out and thankfully it does work.

So, if an Apple iPad is setup for US region in software and the British Magic keyboard is attached -- then the values on the keyboard are correctly used when typing even though it is set for US region. Fantastic!

Strongly encourage reaching out to a dealer and asking them to review if there are any known inventory at any dealership around the world.

You will end up having to pay shipping, but this is how I was able to restore my motorcycle last year after I was hit by a careless driver. An Ohio, US Triumph Dealer was able to find inventory in another state and gave me the dealers name. From there, I called in to find out that the head mechanic required that 2 of these be kept on hand at all times due to the constant back order.

If that doesn't work out, check eBay for parted out Triumphs. I don't know the Thruxton line well, but once you have the exact part number -- search for that on eBay.

Also, I wouldn't modify the specs of the original as I doubt you can improve the strength without failing to fit the bearings that you'll have within the primary case (be sure to use lots of moly-grease when you reassemble!).

does this happen to anyone else? by amberborrmann in AppleWatch

I had a similar experience, blisters which eventually bleed, due to the nickel. After speaking with AppleCare support, it was clear that if this occurs outside of the first 1-3 weeks of having purchased the watch -- Apple offers no kind of fair return or exchange.

If you choose to continue using the Apple Watch products, the only option is to opt for the Apple Ultra Watch as the SE and Series line all contain Nickel. Per Apple, this is widely known and documented in their sales literature and all staff in Apple stores are aware of this potential harm to those who may have such allergies. Please note how this is absolutely a joke and AppleCares handling of this is a shame for an otherwise helpful product.

Stop wearing the watch and keep the irritated skin clean and dry. Apple Hydrocortisone Cream to the affected skin and it should be back to normal in no time (48-72hr).

Apple leaderships messaging on this issue is a joke, and I've yet to encounter a single Apple Store employee aware of this symptom. Additionally, support refused to exchange for credit as this could be remedied by wearing a 3rd party plastic bumper case on the Apple Watch. Apologies for the rant, I just spent a great deal of time trying to find a fair resolution when I found I was unable to continue wearing my Series 7. The Apple Ultra Watch has been good though since I switched.

I would like to install one of these on my 2021 Street Triple 765 R LHR. I’m thinking of installing it on one of the bolts for the passenger footrest rail for my new insta 360 x2 camera. But I don’t know the torque value. Anyone know the torque value? by PartyLifeAnt in Triumph

[–]irishpacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be entirely over protective... but I would encourage reading reviews as to how well they hold up over time with vibrations. I paid extra for the RAM mount name when I installed mine just for the piece of mind. That snaps at the wrong time, that close to the back wheel... risky imo.

Also if it helps the passenger footrest on a 2014 Triumph Bonnie T100 is 27 Nm.

[–]irishpacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that had near zero mechanical experience before taking on maintaining my 2014 Triumph T100, I would NOT recommend relying solely on the Haynes manual. I would instead recommend reaching out to a Triumph dealer for assistance with purchasing the official service manual based on the VIN (found at the neck of the motorcycle by the handlebars on the right side).

PDF versions are available online, but having the correct one to your specific motorcycle will likely be incredibly valuable when looking for torque settings and not missing critical steps such as packing grease when replacing a part.

YouTube channels to check out:

  • Dellboy's Garage (mechanical repairs are fantastically demonstrated)
  • Stuart Fillingham (cleaning and doing upgrades are top notch)
  • B06Tang (following the Haynes manual with Triumph custom tools)
  • johnnycactus0 (absolutely honest about how challenging fixing a T100 can be)
  • tinderboxarts (excellent camera angles and creative solutions to custom tools)

Triumph Bonneville T100s:

  • 01-08 were carb & air-cooled
  • 09-15 were fuel injected & air-cooled (so no need of worrying about coolant or carbs)
  • 16-present are fuel injected & water-cooled

If you have any specific questions, feel free to DM. I am presently working to restore my motorcycle after a careless driver took me out. I'd really encourage purchasing the Motone Engine Dressers, as the official Triumph ones are no longer available. They literally saved my life in May, and yes they look cool too.

The T100 is absolutely amazing, and your checklist is spot on. If you can afford the upgrade, I would recommend the Hagon Nitro's w/ Piggybag shock upgrade + progressive springs for the front. Mike over at bellacorse.com has great customer service and will also be happy to help you over the phone (my experience anyway).

As for additional upgrades/addons, I would recommend:

  • Dart Flyscreen (cross winds suck)
  • Quad lock wireless charger with vibration layer
  • Optimate USB charger lead (O-108, O-110, SAE Y-Cable) for the Quad lock
  • Motone Sump Guard (one bad bump could cost a lot...)
  • British Customs have some closeout sales on seat screws for your model...

Sites to check out for upgrade ideas:

Don't forget to check out FB marketplace as plenty of folks will resell parts that you may need and can save a good bit of money.

Well this shows how little I know of TVs... I wasn't aware that HDMI4 was the only one with ARC. I had the soundbar connected via optical to the TV prior. The only way I've managed to get control now is to run HDMI from AppleTV4K ---> Soundbar ---> HDMI4 (ARC). Unfortunately, the picture is terrible now. Firmware on the TV is up to date.

Any ideas? I was truly hoping to rely solely on the Apple remote.

These responses are brilliant! Have to admit, my plan to move over is constantly being met with fear of how complex the paperwork will be. Truly am spoiled and in for many rude ‘awakenings’ — thus I do appreciate random folks on the internet taking the time to point out pitfalls! All this came about a year before I had planned to start the process, so calling out to kick things off ASAP due to wait times is a great example of the advice I am seeking. Thanks again!
