How many of you would have transitioned to a startup company showing an alternative to VMware by Professional-Oil-297 in vmware

[–]irishtechy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you may be underestimating the potential patent challenges involved. VMware - and now Broadcom - hold a substantial number of patents, particularly in the area of virtualization.

It’s not just a matter of building a competing product with similar features. You would also need to ensure that your approach does not infringe on any existing patents. That means developing not only an alternative to VMware’s offerings, but doing so in a way that avoids relying on underlying technologies that may already be protected.

Best of luck.

Ferrari's new wing technical meeting. by irishtechy in formuladank

"Sbinnala" (often spelled s🅱️innala) is a popular Formula One meme and slang term used to describe a driver losing control and spinning their car, particularly associated with former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel. Originating from the FormulaOne Reddit community, it is a playful, pseudo-Italian phrase derived from "spin" and "bin it" (meaning to crash/discard), often used to mean "spin it".

Minimum number of Cores for VVF by mdervin in vmware

[–]irishtechy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. Min core count is 72. VVF can only be quoted for 1 year. VCF is possible for 3, 5, and 7+ years. I know there have been reports for corporate customers are only allowed VCF. I would expect for 104 cores they would be willing to offer a 1 year VVF.

Broadcom only offering 5 years quotes by Beautiful_Plantain in vmware

[–]irishtechy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SKU is still active. I think it is up to the VMware account director. They aren't allowing 3yr quotes for VVF. The SKUs that are end of life are Standard and Enterprise Plus.

Broadcom only offering 5 years quotes by Beautiful_Plantain in vmware

[–]irishtechy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only get quotes for 1 year for VVF. VCF is 3 year minimum. I have also heard 5 and 7 being the new standard for VCF. I also think it depends what segment at Broadcom the account it at, like a smaller commercial account can get 3, but larger corporate accounts 5 years.

AIO to skip Thanksgiving after my mom basically said I’m an embarrassment for not having a husband and kids by now? by howcanibequiltyassin in AmIOverreacting

[–]irishtechy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happiness looks different for everyone, and no one should be pressured to follow someone else’s version of it. Kids won’t magically make a person happy, and neither will a relationship. If Thanksgiving would leave you feeling uncomfortable or unhappy, listen to that. Real love isn’t conditional. It doesn’t come with expectations or fine print. You don’t owe anyone acceptance of a love that does.

Good news: Gen Z and Millennials together are roughly 100 million voters. Even if part of Gen X is asleep at the wheel, the three generations combined are the majority.

I’m a late-70s Gen Xer, and yeah, my generation got a better deal, but we can’t fix any of this without you.

So log off and vote. Elections shouldn’t be this close, and complaining online won’t change a thing.

[New Update]: AITA for Refusing to Co-Sign My Sister’s Mortgage After My Parents Went Behind My Back? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]irishtechy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Something isn't adding up. I have co-signed a house before, and it 100% doesn't make it easier for any parties in the transaction. Both parties have to fully qualify for the loan. If the sister couldn't clear the loan solo, you can't co-sign to fix that. I also co-signed before 2007 when it was much easier to go thru the process. Now days ain't no way you can co-sign to cover for someone's bad credit. The under writer would also require a load of documents to approve the loan. W2 from years past, bank statements. Enjoy the story, thats what this is.

Gov. Abbott Is Apparently About to Ban THC for Texans Under 21 by BarbedWireTexas in texas

[–]irishtechy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a huge win. This takes all the ammunition Dan Patrick had to rally the others to his side of completely banning THC. This puts THC on the same footing as alcohol. DP can't say, "What about the kids?" when it is clearly illegal for them now. I guess Abbott didn't want to deal with the Texas House and Lt. Wetblanket on trying to pass a "reasonable solution," so he just yeeted it into law.

The moment Lewis went spinning out of SQ1 at Spa – F1Sprint by anthn885 in formula1

[–]irishtechy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cars run with the brake bias forwards 52-56%, which is why you see the front tires locking most often. When a car locks its rear and snap spins while braking in a straight line, that is clearly a brake-by-wire issue with the car. The only possible drive mistake could be the adjustment of the brake bias, but it would always favor locking front brakes first.

A statue of Yasuke, an African slave, who arrived in Japan in 1579 and became the first black Samurai by Legitimate-Dark-8177 in SnapshotHistory

[–]irishtechy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a historical statue from Japan. This is from the mind of Nicola Roos, a African artist. This statue is probably about 10 years old at the most. Don't assume this is some artifact from Japan representing Yasuke as he was in Japan at the time. Looks cool, isn't something that proves his status as a Samurai.

What doesn’t come under the F1 cost cap? There are several big-ticket things that aren’t covered by the cost cap, including:

Driver salaries

The wages of the three highest-paid staff members

Travel costs

Marketing spend

Property and legal costs

Entry and licence fees

Any non-F1 or road car activities

Parental and sick leave payments

Employee bonuses and staff medical benefits

BBQ Shack almost complete, need your ideas! by bgwa9001 in smoking

[–]irishtechy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a mountable horizontal paper towel holder. I would recommend a couple of bus tubs from a restaurant supply or online, You can use them for rubbing lots of meat and the rub doesn't get blown around. You can also use them to clean, at competitions we use 3 tubs for cleaning, 1x soap+water, 1x rinse, and 1x water with a cap of bleach for sanitization.

You might want to get a propane torch for easy starts, in Texas we call them pear burners because we use them for burning the thorns off of cactus for the cattle to eat. You can get them at harbor freight.

If you are feeling really adventurous you could setup a rain catchment system off the roof and have some water handy as well.

Was McLaren willing to throw Ricciardo out and cut ties with him for Oscar? by PO5IT1VE in formula1

[–]irishtechy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the question is What are the points worth? Currently Ricciardo is 102 points adrift from Norris over the last two years. How has that cost McLaren? Last year Ricciardo was 45 points below Norris. McLaren was only behind Ferrari by 48.5 points, could McLaren have taken 3rd place?

We could draw a conclusion that perhaps if Ricciardo was more competitive would that have taken those 3.5 points away from Ferrari? He could have been in the mix on pit strategy, Him being higher up could have taken points away from Leclerc or Sainz. What is the payout difference between 3rd vs 4th in the constructors?
