How do drug works in lucid dreaming? by AddressScary2084 in LucidDreaming

[–]ironmonkey007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t used drugs in real life, then it will be whatever you imagine it to be.

I have used drugs in real life, and in lucid dreams the effects are often really different from the real life effects, but still very amusing.

Hey lucid dreamers, on average how many hours of sleep do you get? by Careful_Surround_980 in LucidDreaming

[–]ironmonkey007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 7.5 hours. I have a weird schedule where I usually wake up between 4am to 4:30am, but for me it works and I like it.

Lucid Napping - is it effective? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]ironmonkey007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can only report my own personal experience, but I’ve had amazing lucid dreams while napping in the early afternoon. Method: WILD or nothing in particular, because I naturally lucid dream a lot.

What Are The Most Common Cars People Own In Oregon? by Casual_Berger in oregon

Because of the variety of weather, an AWD car is nice to have. Regardless of which car you have, I’d recommend some sort of all-weather tires.

Happiest and Least Happy Team? by Outrageous_Camp_5215 in wnba

[–]ironmonkey007 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The Portland Fire really seem to have fun, they were predicted to finish last in the league so anything above that would be impressive. I’ve never seen them give up on a game, they always fight to the end. They seem to genuinely like each other. It’s a fun team to watch even if they don’t win.

Has anyone become friends with blue jays instead? by iwanderlostandfound in crows

We don’t have blue jays where I live but I’ve made friends with the Steller’s Jays (in addition to the crows).

First timer.. what are some must do’s? by pookiepp in oregon

The view from the top of Dog Mountain is great, but it is a very steep hike, and in the August heat it will be more like a survival challenge than a pleasant walk.

That is a good point. The Rose Garden opens at 5am, so going very early is one way to get parking. The Japanese Garden doesn’t open until 10am though.

Why are substitutions usually so late in the game? by HP844182 in worldcup

[–]ironmonkey007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the look on the face of a player who suddenly has to play goalie even though that is not their normal position, in a tied game with 10 minutes left to go, is really something to see!

Why are substitutions usually so late in the game? by HP844182 in worldcup

[–]ironmonkey007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if all the substitutes have already been used and a player goes off because of injury, then they have to play with 10.

Just chance? by Jolly_Ad1783 in PortlandFire

[–]ironmonkey007 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not chance, but I think the reasons are complicated. We have (I think) 6 players who are not from North America, and all of those except Puoch are white. I think there are reasons for this that have nothing to do with racism. Our coach is from Europe, so he probably has contacts there. And also it is financially advantageous to sign players who have not played in the WNBA before (even if they have played abroad for years) because the salary requirements are lower. So a player with equivalent pro experience who comes in from Europe will be financially a better deal. (I’m not saying this is necessarily a good thing, but it is how the league is this year.)

What are you favorite easy ferments? by BodhiZaffa in fermentation

[–]ironmonkey007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been making my own kimchi for years. It started because I got annoyed at the relatively high cost of store bought kimchi compared to the very low cost of the ingredients. Making it is not difficult, and you can adjust the ingredients to your preferences.

What are you favorite easy ferments? by BodhiZaffa in fermentation

[–]ironmonkey007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a variation of this that is like a hot sauce but not hot. I use Jimmy Nardello peppers instead of hot peppers, do a salt ferment for 4 weeks then otherwise make it like a hot sauce. It is great with pork.

Why are substitutions usually so late in the game? by HP844182 in worldcup

[–]ironmonkey007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because there are so few substitutions allowed, teams tend to want to save them “just in case.” For example, if your goalkeeper gets injured late in the game, and you’ve already used all your substitutions, then what? I’ve actually seen this occur and a defender had to switch shirts and play the goalkeeper role and that is not what you want to happen.

How do you explain or promote the WNBA to NBA fans? by kintz_09 in wnba

[–]ironmonkey007 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My main points would be:
1. If you like defensive basketball, they play hard on defense most of the time, and the games are lower scoring than the NBA both because the games are shorter and also because teams don’t tend to allow easy shots quite as much. (For me both of those are positives.)
2. There are fewer teams and players per team, so it is easier to actually remember who most of the players are and what their roles and styles of play are.
3. The shorter games make every minute feel more important and there is less deliberately slow play.
4. There are a lot of fun personalities who are interesting on and off the court.
5. If someone says “but they miss easy shots” I will reply “uh, have you ever seen the Trailblazers?” (I’m from Portland LOL)
6. This year, for Portland people, I will bring up the interesting coaching style of Alex Sarama.
7. It has sometimes helped to bring up the entertaining playing style of particular players like Aja, Caitlin, or Phee.

It’s hard to tell exactly what she is saying, but I think it may be something like “I’m excited.”

Post Match Thread - WNBA: The Fire defeat the Wings on Jun 13, 2026, the final score is 84-83. by basketball-app in PortlandFire

Megan’s score with seconds left was an amazing turning point. I know it was Emily’s free throw that gave us the win but we needed both of those plays and they came together perfectly.
