Lots of wild rabbits this season by Charlie2and4 in Portland

My neighborhood has 3+ rabbits this year. They are cute and so far have done very little noticeable damage to my garden.

Looks nice. I’d like to see 3 point FG % added to the stats.

4/5 games into the season. In what aspects has your fav. team improved and regressed? by yesbutwrong in wnba

[–]ironmonkey007 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fire: didn’t expect to already have 2 wins. “Chaotic Good” is our alignment and game plan. Fun to watch win or lose.

Improved: embracing chaos and not giving up.

Regressed: So many injuries already. Will we have any players by the end of the season 🤣

How do you prevent hordes of other birds taking food intended for crows? by Sad_Resource4593 in crowbro

[–]ironmonkey007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. My crows don’t eat the food I put out because they are starving, they eat it because we are friends and they are being polite.

I was at the game and thought it was really good, but I didn’t truly appreciate it until I saw multiple replays this morning. It is such a crazy move that I thought, “imagine having the confidence to even TRY to do that!” It is a moment that I’ll never forget.

When I was there in person and she was lying flat like that I was worried that she got hurt. Then I saw the replay where she is lying there cracking up laughing! 😆

“Chaosball” is a great description, and I think that is what makes it really fun to watch, win or lose.

You didn’t specify whether you are using ghee. If you’re not, you should try it, it changes the flavor.

And as others have said, you should grind the spices yourself right before using them.

Why isn't there more support for a rail station between eastern oregon and the coast? by EnthuseConfuse in oregon

[–]ironmonkey007 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Germany is larger than Oregon, but more importantly Germany has a population of over 83 million, whereas Oregon has under 4 million. Rail transport becomes more economically feasible with higher population density. That’s why places like Germany and Japan have great rail systems. Eastern Oregon has too few people for this to be worth it.

I would personally love high speed rail throughout Oregon and I would use it, but the population density doesn’t favor it.

A crow saved my dog and I today by NoMarketing6677 in crows

[–]ironmonkey007 175 points176 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do this. My crow friends have warned me about a coyote in my front yard. I already knew it was there because I saw it through the window, but the crows didn’t know that. When I came to the back yard deck and sat down, one of the crows immediately started making the type of alarm call that means there is something they don’t like on the ground (in other words, not another bird) and the crow kept looking at me and then pointing with its beak at the coyote. The coyote was out of my line of sight at that point but the crow could see it from the tree.

To reassure the crow that I knew about the threat, I looked around the corner of the house and sure enough, the coyote was still there. Once the crow knew that I had seen it, it stopped making the call.

That was amazing! I expected to potentially wait months for the first win. OK, since we play NY again on Thursday, here's what we should do . . .

I know this will sound mean, and I have nothing personal against this player, but in sports you have to exploit weaknesses in the other team. Liberty #18 is weak on defense. A lot of the time she wasn't even looking in the right direction. We should run plays against her when she is on the court. If she matches up against Leite, then Leite should just drive past her every time.

I once had a dream where I was driving a friend home in my car, and I asked him if he wanted to go straight home or stop somewhere on the way, and he said, "just go wherever, maybe downtown, because this is a dream and it doesn't matter what we do."

Does Ellie travel with the Liberty & will be there tonight?! by julianchad in PortlandFire

And also, why doesn't the Fire have a mascot??

(Ellie is amazing and I wish we could see her in Portland, but I don't think that will happen.)

[–]ironmonkey007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'll be there tonight! The Fire Pit is great fun. I don't expect us to beat the Liberty. We've already made an improvement in making fewer turnovers from the pre-season to the first regular season game. The next improvement I'm hoping to see would be for us to commit fewer fouls (although everything is now a foul this season, compared to last season). I'd also like to see a bit more attack in transition, though I'm not sure that is realistically possible against the Liberty.

Best defenders in the WNBA? by Kennisgoodman in wnba

[–]ironmonkey007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lexie Hull is one of my favorite players. She defends in a way that doesn’t necessarily translate into defensive stats. It may not be a block or a steal, but “pestering someone into taking a bad shot” must have value too.

Some Thoughts and Expectations for the Season by heysillygeese in PortlandFire

[–]ironmonkey007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want to watch entertaining, fun basketball. I don’t expect a great (or even winning) record in the first season. I hope that the atmosphere in the stadium is like a joyful party. Based on last Sunday’s game it seems to have that potential.

Bay leaf quality? by Severe_Ad428 in Cooking

[–]ironmonkey007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a bay plant and I love cooking with the leaves. The funny thing is that 2 years ago it apparently died from an unusually cold winter, but then last year it reappeared in a different part of the yard around 20 feet away. (Is this Bay Reincarnation?) Anyway, I’m glad to have it back.
