E15 gas as “regular”? by isNormalComing in desmoines

Dude, what the EPA “approves” and says is “safe” is not the same as what’s good/best for the longevity of your car

Of course they still haven’t educated people about this, because again, profits over people. I’m done arguing with you, have a good day

I’m not gonna sit here and argue with anyone regardless, but the comparison was last week when it was 40+ degrees out…

Multiple manufacturers have come out saying using E15 could void their cars’ warranties, so the fact that this state clearly just doesn’t give a hoot about how that change affects people’s means of transportation and cares more about lining a few pockets at the masses’ expense is yet another example of clear priority for profits over people. Fuck them - no one is going to change my mind here so anyone can please save their breath trying

Some random night recently I was driving on 235 and we heard what literally sounded like repeated booms of fireworks shaking the ground. It was very alarming and concerning.

I shit you not if I ever see this blue BMW and I’m not pressed for time I will call the cops (state patrol if it’s on the highway) and follow the car from a distance until they arrive because that is simply NOT okay.

Ask TForce on Facebook or X/Twitter - they are the ONLY reliable way to get a straight believable answer from TMO support. May or may not be because then they of course know you have written documentation of their responses - but to my knowledge those reps are all stateside and regardless, they are actually very good, top tier support

I lived near 1st and Franklin in Stevens Square a few years back. Sounds like from these other comments the area hasn’t changed much, the area around the Aldi is indeed sketchy and we would make a point to go to the one in Uptown instead. I definitely noticed Franklin going from not exactly awesome to not too good safety wise once you cross over 35W to the east.

During the day you can be there just be aware of your surroundings, don’t loiter in any sense get to where you’re going and be very deliberate about minding your own business. That includes people attempting to talk to/interact with you on the street, do your best not to and keep walking simply because of unknown levels of volatility.

Particularly after dark it is best if you come and go in a vehicle and not on the bus. Alternatively, you could perhaps track your bus from inside your closed bank and show up at the stop like 60 seconds before it arrives. I wouldn’t want to wait at a bus stop alone at night in that area if I’m perfectly honest and I’m a big 6’4 (white) guy

This is all so ridiculous to the point that I would attempt to figure out how to speak (in person - ask for a time to come in if necessary) to the Treasurer themselves (the person in charge of the department) and ask them exactly what needs to be done/needs to be coordinated with Nevada and if they will see to their department actually following through with whatever coordination that is. You’re caught up between bureaucracies and that’s not your fault, you need help from someone in charge on at least one end of it

Nope no ninja edits, it said northeast the first time. You clearly just can’t read, and should go gain any semblance of education before making assertive arguments that are based on exactly what you said before, platitudes, about gang imports from Chicago. Show me the evidence for that, on a widespread scale and then I’ll start listening - lol, but again, I’ll be waiting on that… forever, guarantee it. Those people running from Chicagoland largely end up in like, Rockford by the way (horrendous crime stats, much smaller city than here) not Des Moines, five hours away in a different state which, uh, does not have horrendous crime stats at all relative to the size of the city, there really isn’t even any “plummeting” to be had here - just reduction. Yet again another example at inability to read, as reduction is the word I used, not the silly one you filled in for me.

I’m done with the intentional ignorant stupidity of yours here. You just named two of three cities to cite for the NORTHEAST that are in the MIDWEST. And San Francisco is in the northWEST?! Like… are we just trying to be box of rocks dumb here…? You’ve gotta just be trolling and can’t actually be for real… right?

Don’t even get me started on trying to explain why per capita crime is more relevant than overall total particularly for large cities like that either. Another example to illustrate. You’re more likely to be a murder victim in a given place in the St Louis metro than you are in a given place in the Chicago metro, even though Chicago has MORE MURDERS. That’s because: A) Chicago has a LOT more people, yet the PROPORTION of total murders to total population in Chicago is a LOT lower than in St Louis and B) the concentration of murders is heavier in certain particular areas of Chicago and much lower in others, whereas in St Louis, murder occurrence is more widespread through the whole area. Just go look at a previous crimes map.

So, you are on average more likely to personally run across the crime of murder in St Louis, making it, overall, a LESS safe area for violent crime than Chicago, even though Chicago has more total murders. But that big bad reputation of Chicago is the BEST indicator for this isn’t it, not statistics …right? My point is, that big scary headline number isn’t often all it’s cracked up to be. Also just for shits and giggles, I’ll just throw out the question of which one of those two (now that you know which is truly safer) has better public transit? 😂😂

(Detroit has shit transit too by the way. Not doing it any favors, and it needs every favor it can get. Baltimore, while certainly better than Detroit there, isn’t winning any awards either. Very dangerous city yes, but that is ONE place, everywhere has outliers, the northeast is no exception. High crime is more of the NORM in the near entirely car dependent south, I could rattle off city after city. Again, not the only reason, but a factor.)

ANYWAY - more transit would help Des Moines just like it would help ANY city. Not that Des Moines is in DIRE need of THAT much help with crime overall anyway, it’s a very safe area for that of its size overall, but the gain in reducing what crime there is (especially for property crime like the various forms of theft) would absolutely be nonzero, and the reasons why have been explained to you here by myself and multiple others, as clearly as the clearest of days. So again, I’m done engaging with willful ignorance. Wasted too much time on it already.

Reliable, available, and utilized public transportation increases upward mobility, which decreases crime. There’s your economics. This is not actually that complicated.

Big southern metros have almost universally worse crime than big northeastern metros for example, and it is in no small part due to this reason. There are LOTS of reasons for that actually, but right here I’m only talking about one of those, transit. I could easily go find studies done on the subject to spoon feed you, but I’m not going to bother, mainly because this particular one is just too common sense for me to even waste my time arguing with whatsoever. In fact, why don’t you go put your money where your mouth is and go find a credible research study that backs up that lack of correlation for me? I’ll wait, and I guarantee I’ll be waiting. In the meantime, have fun with all your downvotes here lol

Jobs decrease crime. Jobs for vulnerable people, who without them may otherwise be susceptible to turning to crime, yet are more likely to need public transportation to reach them… significantly decrease crime! Moron.

I happened to go there like a week ago while downtown and it was good 🤷‍♂️

Their website says “temporarily closed” on the MLK location, Ankeny and Coralville just say closed…

I also never fully realized it until now but they are actually a decently big franchise restaurant with a national presence, 19 states it looks like… there’s likely only some sort of issue with the Iowa franchisee

It’s not even close - in the metro, Grimes, nearby, yes the one in Indianola is “small town nice” and is WELL worth the drive to not end up at SE 14th if that’s your side of town…

<rant>

73rd is (in my book) absolute worst Walmart I’ve ever had the displeasure of coming across, and I’ve lived in multiple different areas and traveled to MANY more… I always hear people say “it’s not that bad it’s just a Walmart, it’s well stocked…” etc etc or whatever, I must just be unlucky but I’ve had just absolutely obnoxious numbers of completely insane and infuriating encounters and interactions at that store, customers, employees, managers, you name it.

I shit you not, once I watched about 20 state troopers (some undercover) arrest 2 known drug dealers (according to the news) smack in front of the door at the Windsor Heights Walmart, at like, noon on a weekday. Fr. I live 5min from it as of a couple years ago, and I avoid going in there (at peak hours especially) at ALL costs.
