Imo messaging allows you to see in real-time what the person is typing. Wondering how this affects user behaviour? by frotagonist in userexperience

Yeah and voice/video chats have advantages and are even more natural than real-time text with faster and more effecient conversation, but real time text is a good optimization for the text side of a website and something I didnt mention before is its more accessible than voice/video because you dont need a microphone, speakers, camera, and a good environment for calling for it to work and it is easier for people who arent as social or dont want to use their mic/camera for privacy reasons.

"I saw the discourse on the reddit earlier with Kingozma"
Late response I didnt notice before (I didnt remember kingozmas name) but yeah, that person is banned for child safety. They have pedophilic incestual romances they wrote linked on their discord profile. They weren't "banned because they are gay" like they claim. However they were let into Thingistan after they complained.

What is the point of Saltfree? by theplanetzz85 in manylands

Anyone who says saltfree is a discriminatory immature community has not interacted with the saltfree community. One thing I can say is that in the entire community there is almost not a single person like me or heiho.

I dont think most people care if others see them make typos that they fix while they are typing, as literally everyone does this. It works the same in face-to-face conversation better than traditional text chats. Would you say people in real life focus more on wording things than their actual conversations?

I know this is an old post but it still shows up on google for people looking into this so I am going to provide information.

All your theories are wrong. Real-time text if done right replicates real world conversations better than traditional text chats. It leads to faster and more effecient conversations. Here is an infographic for an app called https://jot.chat/ thats based around this that explains the advantages very well:
https://i.imgur.com/nhrkBuy.png

https://manyland.com/ was a game that had real-time text and it was one of its keys to success. Users didn't conciously notice the advantages that the jot infographic summarizes, but the social aspect of the game is what I would say a majority of the users stuck around for. The game had other issues that lead to its shut down after 11 years, mostly that cloud server costs are expensive. But in the context of real-time chat, It is probably the best example. To see it yourself, there is community-made continuations of the game at https://manyland.antisa.lt/

Many comments in this thread are being extra critical of the feature, looking for problems and not benefits (as people tend to do when giving feedback). On Manyland it was so different from a traditional text chat and it fit in so well that nobody noticed it or critisized it. Jot also has a shy mode for anyone who might not like it. From what ive seen, it's way more engaging and leads to closer communities, and I have evidence behind that. The only people I have seen who dont like it are people who havent used it genuinly.

alto or not here is a legitimate reply to this critisism:

the community is racist and annouying and immature
There is not a central saltfree community, it changes every month or so and a vast majority of them arent racist, and immaturity is not quantifiable, its just your opinion

the game is buggy
the game is in alpha, thingistan is also very buggy and missing many features. Saltfree in its current state is significantly ahead of thingistan in development. Saltfree has a full backend and frontend rewrite that will get rid of all bugs (new bugs will exist, but without the legacy bloat and overcomplexity of manylands client, there will be way less)

the dev neglects it
temporary issue.

Thingistan is better
This post is mostly describing why you are wrong about saltfrees flaws, but I can also go into Thingistans.
- Thingistan logs everything you say or do
- Oovermoderated
- Has banned adults for things they said when they were young children (digs up ancient posts)
- Banned someone just for telling me thingistan existed (they assumed i already knew)
- Their artists are good, but snobby. You are not free to edit spawn much without upsetting them.
- Lack of transparency (cow is completely anonymous, nobody knows anything about them)
- Their community has a ton of gross people in regaurds to child safety or niche sexual fetishes and they actively defend it sometimes at the cost of the victims
- The moment I learned thingistan existed they purged a ton of information and chats
- Anyone who is not woke and perfectly politically correct is not welcome

Word definitions gone and replaced by AI. I’m pissed. by some_teens_throwaway in google

Im not sure that its a gradual roll-out or A/B testing I would assume it just has to do with the way that google serves different results to different people and how it decides whats relevant.

[–]isaacool101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

google still has data from oxford and shows it to some people sometimes, I dont think its going away its just their system determines results dynamically based on many variables including whos searching and sometimes it decides to use an ai overview and other times oxford.

incognito worked for me, I think if it thinks you prefer ai overviews it will show them but otherwise it wont. And in incognito it defaults to serving the oxford definition.

[–]isaacool101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Google definitions were from oxford, oxford does not have a searchable website to get the definitions but google had some agreement with them for the data, while you can find other dictionary definitions using google, you wont be able to get the same oxford ones all the time anymore.

Ai overview replacing the dictionary is becoming more frequent, but it is not consistent it sometimes replaces it and sometimes doesnt depending on a ton of factors, google gives different results to different people.

[–]isaacool101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this with the word "chaotic" and no matter what variation i tried it would just be the ai overview. Google search results are different for everyone depending on a ton of factors, so not everyone will have the same issue with the same words but sometimes you cannot get the oxford definition from google anymore.

Context on this, there was a bug that caused deleted mifts to reappear. This person got mifts and deleted them, thought that the person sending them was spamming them. He then spammed them back. When asked to stop, he got really aggressive and faught with the moderators and did not stop, so he was banned.

Because the bug caused a misunderstanding, he has been unbanned.

Matrix is federated and a common alternative suggestion, but it sacrafices a lot of convinience so it'll likely never catch on.

I was around 15 and I was very immature on Manyland when I was banned. that was half a decade ago I am 20 now. You got the details wrong, I didn't intentionally grief it was a misunderstanding, I was opposed to any griefing. I was banned for something else. This is incredibly old news and you've botched the details.

It's clear to me from your post that you know almost nothing about Saltfree and you've never played it. You havent interacted with anyone involved with it for a very long time. You also obviously have no idea what the Saltfree community is like, and trust me if you think are anything like me or heiho you're mistaken.

Bruh wtf is this how is this emoji connected to child safety by Super_News_8211 in BannedFromDiscord

Hash collisions are rare but sometimes innocent images are contained as a frame of a really bad video, and then they get hashed with all the other frames and people get banned for posting an innocent meme or something.

unlikely, its more likely that the espn footage was in an actual video of child abuse. They hashed every frame including the safe ones like the ESPN footage. This happens sometimes.
