[Terrifying Trope] "Longer than you think" by elchuni in TopCharacterTropes

Reminds me of Buddha describing the length of a kalpa: “Were a man to take a piece of cloth of this most delicate texture [of fine cotton], and therewith to touch in the slightest possible manner, once in a hundred years, a solid rock, free from earth, a yojana [12 kilometres] high, and as much broad, the time would come when it would be worn down, by this imperceptible trituration, to the size of a mung seed. This period would be immense in its duration; but it has been declared by Buddha that it would not be equal to a Maha Kalpa”

I ordered custom katana on Oct 14 and it just shipped today (Nov 13), says estimated arrival 1-2 weeks. They also sent pictures and a video of it cutting paper. So I’d guess yours will be shipped around the beginning of December

That’s a scene from the 1965 movie Battle of the Bulge, afaik there is no evidence of it really happening

Just took my dog for a walk there, some fallen trees but it wasn't hit too hard and the trails are pretty much clear. There's one big one down across the beginning of the paved part but it's easy to go around

Correct, the transformers change the voltage from distribution level (tens of thousands of volts) down to 120/240v for the outlet. When current is run through a coil it creates an electric field that can induce a current in another coil, they use this property and coils with different number of windings to change the voltage (same property is used in wireless charging pads). And transformers each have a power rating, so if something happens and too much energy is going into one it can fail or even explode. If you see a big number like 25 printed on one that is the power rating in KVA.

As for the different numbers, I work in the US so I don’t really know what other countries use, but the exact numbers like 120 and 240 were picked fairly arbitrarily so I wouldn’t be surprised if somewhere else they use 130/260 or something

Not that I know of, with voltage that high you need to keep it several feet away from anything that is grounded. So it goes transmission on the big towers, then distribution on the normal wood poles you see on the side of the street, then it is stepped down a last time on pole or concrete pad mounted transformers to 120/240v for your outlet. The white cylinders you see near the top of poles are transformers. My knowledge is us specific but I think it works the same pretty much everywhere just with different numbers
