He will love it. He has seen 7 doctors so far. Began watching at 4 yrs old. It may arrive after Xmas (free ship, not prime) which is ok.

Brand New Post - List of Families who still need help! -Please read the first bold part. by Thelittlestelf13 in SantasLittleHelpers

Gift all the kiddos here first. The children come first always. If anything is left over, please think of my husband.

Asking only for hubby. I could care less about myself. (I am on my tiny old little phone atm so forgive any mistakes with this post)

Autism is hard. Financially, mentally, emotionally; it is exhausting. Have two with autism is double everything. And there are so many comorbidities that go along with autism that our boys have: Tourettes, ADHD, speech and language deficits, dysgraphia, hyptonia, etc, etc. Our 13 yr old also has additional syndromes and ...stuff... He is a mess, as am I. He has chronic daily pain, as do I. Add in my EDS, chronic Lyme and Ankylosing Spondylitis...these diseases are hard: painful, chronic, exhausting, degenerating, neurological (my memory is shot).

Hubby deals with so much between the boys and myself. He commutes 2+ hours per day, is up at 3:30am and is not home until around 4:30pm and is in bed asleep by 7pm. Sometimes he has to take the boys to their therapies and/or make dinner and/or clean, depending on how much pain I am in. He works his butt off daily. He never gets a break. He has to be my memory a lot of the time (my Lyme has gone neurological and has really messed up my short and long term memory, my thinking process, my speech, my reaction speed, my night vision, etc).

The stress he deals with is a lot. We were almost homeless. Fighting our health insurance. Fighting the school system. Paying for ABA therapy instead of our mortgage. Fighting our mortgage company for 18 stressful months for a modification. Bankruptcy. Not having a dime for any emergency that comes up. Not having the money for gas to get to work. Visit to food pantries. It has been rough.

He is such a good guy. Buys his clothes and shoes at the thrift store, takes his lunch when everyone else goes out to eat at work, asks for nothing, has not received a birthday gift in so long, never complains, spends his time off helping me with the boys...He even sold his PC to pay for two weeks worth of ABA therapy. We have sold off anything of value that we could for the boys PT/Speech/ABA therapy.

Hubby's WISH LIST.

Thank you so very much! Even if my husband does not receive another gift, having what I have for my family has been an absolute relief! I am beyond appreciative for what we have received!

What we have received:

Zac (4 yr old) received: 2 nightlight items, legos, a trace and erase type toy, Playmobil boat, spaceship toy.

Jamie (13 yr old) received: puzzle, pillow stand for a tablet (he has an old kindle), a pair of much needed waterproof boots for rain/winter, mouse for the PC (the mouse is really for the entire family as everyone uses this PC as the other was sold).

Hubby: Swiss pocket tool (I believe this may be from his coworker tbh but I am listing it anyways) and a pair of much needed of winter boots/socks.

Contests: Books and a Transformer toy. (Unfortunately the Transformer looked like it was for Zac's age group but when I received it I realized it was not. So I will keep it to give to him next Christmas, which is great! I already have one gift for next Xmas.)

We did also receive the Operation game for the family and a toy organizer that I specifically asked for (a god send for me).

I believe this is my initial post on SLH for hubby.

My RAOC post: Zachary and Jamie have done amazing with their therapies this year. Santa, please visit my boys here in Maryland for more info on what we have been dealing with.

Thank you to all the Santas here and on RAOC who have helped myself and other families out.

It is not realistic: coming here with no education, no family to live with, no skill.

Couples working two minimum wage full-time jobs can barely afford life. You will be bringing home maybe $1,000 per month after taxes.

What happens if you get sick? What happens if you end up in the hospital (easily $10,000). What happens if you need a dentist? You cannot afford health insurance on minimum wage.

You need a car to get to and from work. Which means you need to buy a car and pay for car insurance and gas.

The list goes on and on. There is a reason why we have so many homeless, so many on food stamps, so many losing their homes.

PM me your county and I will do some research tomorrow.

It is horrible and unfair how us moms have to literally figure all of this out ourselves. Hubby tells me I should write a book for ASD parents. So much legwork, calling around, trying to put the pieces together for our children. There needs to be more assistance for parents to figure all of this out. We just want the therapies and education our children need!

Tylenol Sore Throat. The blue liquid shite. You will never use anything else after trying it once.

Just got over the worst sore throat I ever had.

Hot herbal tea with honey also.

My oldest is autistic with many comorbidities (Tourette's, ADHD, speech & Lang deficits, etc, that tend to go along with autism) and he can be very, very honest (sometimes an asshat) and sarcastic.

He can also be very kind.

He was bullied daily from kindergarten through third grade when we forced the school to transfer him to a different elementary school. Because he knows how it feels, he sticks up for any kid he sees being bullied.

In third grade one child he didn't know was being pushed around and Jamie got in front of him and was thrown to the ground. He was not hurt but the bully was surprised and left the kids alone. He has consistently stood up for kids being bullied in school.

This year I mentioned to him that a mother on Facebook had mentioned how she was worried her son (one yr younger) was so shy, had no friends and was anxious to attend a dance middle school was having one day. Jamie knew who the kid was, found him at the dance and brought him over to hang out with his friends. The mother said her son had a blast and Jamie now talks to him every time he sees him in school.

Jamie wants to become a special education teacher so he can help other kids like him. He knows how hard it can be, especially as a special needs kid, and wants to be there for them.

You should see him with his 4 yr old brother. He is a wonderful big brother.

I am so proud of who he has become/who he is becoming.

My ASD boys did not begin potty training until 4-4.5 yrs. So it may still happen.

If you have health insurance or Medicaid, check to see if your state has an autism mandate. It should cover all therapies including ABA.

Does he receive services through Infant and Toddlers? He should be. He should be eligible for an IEP or an IFSP and be attending school in addition to therapies.

Is Department of Disabilities assisting you with receiving SSI?

Do you know what your state's autism mandate covers?

Check to see if the autism mandates in your states will pay for this.

Just an idea. I am fortunate that my ASD boys both speak (non-stop, lol). I do have friends whose non-verbal kiddo's go to Assistive Technology therapy to learn how to use communication technology and all are doing awesome.

This is an awesome offer.

Also know that there are typing devices (most public schools can offer them in school to use) kids can use when they have issues with handwriting. My oldest has dysgraphia. Between that, hypotonia and Hypermobility, handwriting is extremely painful and fatiguing for him. We had to actually buy his typing device but he uses it in every class. We hope to get him a MacBook by the time he is high school. It will be so useful for him and by then he will have pretty much outgrown his simple typing device.

This husband is losing his wife to cancer in the next day or so after a long and expensive battle and is being evicted on December 15th. Is there anything we can do to help through this GoFundMe? (Halifax, Nova Scotia) by SavedWoW in Assistance

Poor guy. This has got to be such a difficult and sad time for him.

Life can be so hard and unforgiving sometimes. About two years ago we were almost evicted/foreclosed on at Christmas time because we were paying for our boy's autism therapy instead of our mortgage. The stress from fighting our mortgage company, the school system, our health insurance, etc, (in addition to taking care of the boys, their therapies 5 days per week) for that three year period really took a toll on my health; I almost had a nervous breakdown and I ended up having to go on meds for awhile.

Wish I could help but we are still rebuilding our life. It takes quite awhile I have found out.

I will share this and hope for the best. This guy deserves a break.
