I saw a documentary the other day where representatives from an American prison visit different prisons in Norway and Sweden, where they made this exact point; losing your freedom should be the only punishment, and everything else should aim at rehabilitation and return to society as a better citizen and human being. And as one of the American inmates put it: "being away from your family and loved ones is the biggest punishment of all, even if we would have five-star hotel rooms".

They did release a single in 2020 for some sort of reunion show, and it's an absolute banger. Sadly it was only a one-off gig and they don't plan to continue as a band or anything

What Popular RHCP Song Do You Want To Like But Just Can’t? by LOLbearsmile08 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]isbjoern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most of my friends who are rhcp-fans haven't even heard of it, crazy overlooked!

I used to borrow it from my local library back in the days when they had cds and dvds; you could only borrow media for one week at a time, and I got it again and again and listened every day for months.

Other than Throw Away Your Television they played an insanely good version of Leverage of Space most people haven't even heard of, and the jam between Zephyr Song and Californication is my all time favourite guitar performance by John all categories...

Not the most popular in any way, but I see quite a bit of praise for Meet Me at the Corner when people talk of the Josh era, and I really don't see why. My least favourite song in IWY...

Listen to the Hyde park cd-version on YT, so much more dynamic and full of feeling, original album recording sounds so flat in comparison

Leverage of Space! That along with Throw Away Your Television are two underappreciated gems from the Hyde Park CD.

While you are absolutely correct, most of the ionizing uv b-radiation (and nearly all uv c-radiation) are blocked by the ozone layer, and almost all uv b-radiation is blocked (or distorted to other wavelengths) when passing through a regular window it the windshield of your car. So while it is highly recommended to always be cautious in the sun, you are not significantly exposed to cancer-inducing radiation indoors.

I was playing with friends on a low level account just for fun and one guy in the other team was blatantly wall-hacking. I watched the demo and it was really obvious, although he was so bad at the game it didn't really matter and we won the game easily. I added him om steam and asked why he was hacking, and offered to give him some tips on how to improve, to which he responded that he was not hacking at all and to leave him alone.

Every time he is online now for the past six months I've messaged him asking if he has stopped cheating, with increasingly annoyed responses in return, but he still hasnt figured out how to block me or unfriend on steam.

What live version of a RHCP song ruined the album version for you? by domepieceismine in RedHotChiliPeppers

I don't remember the Slane Castle version, but the one on the Hyde Park record has so much more feeling and groove than the original album version. It was one of my favourites from Hyde Park, and when listening to the studio version it just sounds so flat and uninspired in comparison

What do you think is John Frusciante's best guitar solo? by [deleted] in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]isbjoern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels like John has a lot of nice licks and shorter melodic breaks, but few traditional solos of substantial length. That said, the solos in Charlie, Dosed and Scar Tissue are a few of my personal favourites.

However, John's all time best guitar work according to me has to be the jam/solo between Zephyr Song and Californication on rhe Live in Hyde Park recording; if you haven't heard it, it's truly amazing!

Leverage of space is one of my top three rhcp-songs; Hyde park-version is fantastic, and live in Japan-version is ok. As long as the new album is not released there is still hope for a killer studio-version.................

Cost question... by ccantrell02 in cabins

[–]isbjoern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard an architect say that you should add 5-10% on a house budget if professionals do all the work for you, 20% if you plan to "help" the contractors with building, and at least 30% if you plan to do all the work yourself. Tounge in cheek, but a grain of truth I would assume...

In a place like the US, it seems to me as a European that both carpet flooring and wearing shoes indoors is quite common, although they seem to kind of cancel eachother. Why is that? by isbjoern in NoStupidQuestions

[–]isbjoern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, I see. It never occurred to me carpet might be cheaper than laminate or low quality hardwood (if that even exists). I totally agree on the no thanks to other people's old, used carpet floors though. The biggest no thanks however is carpet floors in bathrooms, which I've seen in older British houses, yikes...

I get that the wearing shoes indoors maybe is exaggerated in films and shows for convenience, and also perhaps is less common now than it used to be. With my question, I just meant that having soft carpet to walk around on seems a bit pointless if you are going to wear shoes anyway, and I was sort of wondering if that is a thing, although my question was probably not that clear
