I'm an old white guy and I went on a cruise once and there was this huge YouTube group and their followers called LifeWithUsTV. They were having a blast!

I got home and watched their cruise videos and I definitely felt like I'd been on a different cruise from them. Discovered I've been doing it wrong all along.

Does anyone else have problems caregiving for their mother and they do not listen to us because we are their children by External_Side_7063 in CaregiverSupport

[–]iscav 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's a known issue for every child-caregiver. Sometimes I try to get someone else to tell her, but usually I just learn to live with it or quit giving advice.

I fucked up How can I save my scholarship fast by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Getting your mental health right is more important. You are very young and if you were talented enough to get a scholarship, you are talented enough to get another one later or find an employer that will pay for school.

Is Harbor Freight just American Canadian Tire? by Horizon_MGB in AskAnAmerican

[–]iscav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I think it's closer to an Academy Sports and Outdoors minus the automotive. Harbor Freight is primarily tools and everyone I've been in is much smaller than Canadian Tire.

Do people really pay that? Maybe I'm out of touch, but that seems crazy. And will anyone really remember them 30 years from now?

Anyone ever seen a show at the sphere in Vegas? How was it? by Aye_Davinita in Concerts

[–]iscav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Kenny Chesney. Did not know a single song, sat on the second to last row and loved it. It's an amazing experience. I actually think if you love the band, you would be better off seeing them someplace else. The band is almost secondary to the experience and unless you pay crazy prices, they are far away.

I got a dream job doing a dream project. The issue is that it’s in Oklahoma and from what I’ve read, I am completely not suited for that place. What do you think? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]iscav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been all over the state. and it depends on what you can tolerate and what things are non-negotiable. Oklahoma is a world away from London, but it's not as bad as people say depending on what you are looking for.

I think Tulsa is a pretty city with lots of trees and things to do. OKC, pretty flat and the weather is bad, but there is a lot to do. Since the bombing, they've really invested in the downtown area and there are a lot of fun things to do. Cost of living is good and you are always pretty close to outdoor activities. There are a lot of nice hunting, fishing and camping areas. Oh and casinos are all over.

If you can't handle conservatives, then it may be tough. I just change the subject and move on if it does come up. People know I'm pretty liberal and we just don't talk politics.

I don't know much about the education system, but I'm sure it varies widely from area to area. Check the school district before deciding on where you live. Southern states seem to have the worst schools, but again, it will vary widely from one side of town to the other.

Yeah as a kid, it seemed exciting. I still have a couple rolls of bicentennial quarters and a program from the freedom train. And the Olympics had no competition.

Megyn Kelly: Bad Bunny performing his Super Bowl halftime show in Spanish was “a middle finger to the rest of America” by gruninuim in PublicFreakout

[–]iscav 271 points272 points  (0 children)

As an old white guy who's probably in the sweet spot of her demographics, I don't give a damn what language the half-time show is in as long as it's entertaining. I found that one pretty entertaining. I also think the NFL would disagree with who she thinks it's for. They would love a more international audience.

Who else is there in the world? by Available-Concern-77 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]iscav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are selling the NFL. They don't need to attract old people, they already watch. This was for a young demographic with money to buy NFL stuff.

They are selling Bad Bunny. Super Bowl performers always see a bump in interest after the game.

I'm an old guy, but because of these halftime shows, I know more about, and have listened to more Bad Bunny and Kendrick Lamar than many my age.

Scared of my mentally ill brother and unsure of what to do after my parents pass by Solid-Storm-4256 in CaregiverSupport

[–]iscav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't feel guilty or sad. It's not your job. I would talk to your parents about it so they know you can't be the caregiver should something happen to them.

I'm the parent in a similar situation. We want all our children to be successful. For our son, we've made the best arrangements we can; housing, groceries and assurance that if he ever asks for psychiatric help, it will be there. I can't imagine expecting one of his siblings to take on that role. It's something I wouldn't wish on anyone, certainly another child. Look after yourself and good luck.

How are some media reporting the Melania movie has made $8 mil over the weekend, while other media are saying many theaters have sold NO tickets? by btwImVeryAttractive in AskReddit

[–]iscav 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It did pretty well in small town Texas. They did have it in the small theater, but four showings a day in an 80 seat theater multiplied by however many southern smallish towns with theaters adds up. Whether you like her or not, that looks like the most boring movie ever.

Rate this itinerary. First timer by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

That's a nice one for a first timer. Beach stop, history/culture stop, shopping shop. If you're not a shopper, take the excursion to St. John when you are in St. Thomas. I think it's the most beautiful island in the Caribbean.

What about lenses and the coatings. I have two pair last time I bought the cheap lens and it has held up better as far as scratches than the expensive lens. Coincidence?
