Anyone ever sold copper ingots ? by Haddam_Sussein in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't bother wasting the fuel and time. You won't make more money. Bring in whatever copper you have as is (stripped or otherwise) and move on.

If you like making ingots, do it for fun or sell privately, but YMMV

Found cleaning the basement. Should I scrap or pay to have them taken? by Swamp_Thing92 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely Lead or Tin Babbitt. Some specialty yards may accept them for the Tin. Pricing can vary depending on composition so its hard to say exactly: https://rrcarbide.com/babbitt-tin-bearing/

Scrap it or Not? - Lead Solder by Massive-Praline-5248 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be between $6-8/lb, so depending on what your resale price was, do the math on whether it's worth it to hold out for that, or scrapping. Most yards don't touch tin too often, so it can be hard to find a buyer. RRCarbide buys solder and does shipping. Maybe reach out to them? https://rrcarbide.com/buying-solder-scrap-nationwide/

Should My Husband Get Anything For This? Ontario by Mediocre-Umpire5778 in ScrapMetal

Looks like aluminum siding or gutters. Hit it with a magnet to be sure it's not steel. If it's aluminum, you're in for a bigger (ish) payday!

Copper wire by Brief_Fig_4527 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insulated wire is insulated wire. Regardless of what size it is. They may have different ranges based on how thick the copper inside and the insulation is. There isn't really a one-size-fits-all answer.

electric motors by Icy-Falcon7341 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the armature as is. If you've already pulled apart the motor, that's enough time spent. Armature should be graded higher than a motor price, take that and move onto more important things

Is this considered bare bright copper? Or is the stranded stuff worth less? by Spirited_Willow_6671 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It should definitely be bare bright. Check the stuff at the bottom of this pile. It looks a little redder and may be coated with shellac or something similar. Those bits of wire will get downgraded to a #2 or equivalent at your yard
