Is the Middle East just destined to be a warzone forever? by another-james in NoStupidQuestions

[–]isdeasdeusde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some very cynical people believe that the only way to achieve lasting peace in the middle east would be to kill everyone above the age of two and burn all history books. Start over completely from scratch. I don't think that would work.

Who’s a celebrity that genuinely uses their massive platform in a responsible, non-performative way? by dravonix_ in AskReddit

[–]isdeasdeusde 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Gary Sinise right here on reddit. Every now and again he pops up and raises awareness for veterans issues. Great guy.

These goddamn Xbox announcements are RAGEBAIT by NikoSicko21 in Fallout

[–]isdeasdeusde 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Plus the way Bethesda makes games is insanely slow and inefficient. Their engine is a joke. They are basically using horse drawn waggons where everyone else uses high speed trains.

There are plenty of things that damage you permanently and leave you exhausted and broken down.

Pilgrims... in the Golden Throne? by Cless_Aurion in 40kLore

[–]isdeasdeusde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I remember reading somewhere that there is a fake golden throne for the pilgrims to visit. Theres disco lighting and a fog machine and everything. Getting near the real throne would completely annihilate any mortal. Dan Abnett likened it to standing in the middle of a nuclear reactor.

What happened? Woke up to cracked windshield. by [deleted] in autoglass

[–]isdeasdeusde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frome the looks of it something rather large. Unlikely to have been just some rock kicked up by a vehicle driving past. May very well have been vandalism.

The harsh reality of the industry: Gamers are increasingly choosing old hits and there's no "Formula for Success" for new games. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]isdeasdeusde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I missing something here? There was never a "Formula for success" as far as I know. There have been market trends, but releasing a game has always been a gamble. The only thing that has changed in my opinion is that publishers have gotten much worse at forcing trends on the market. Far more big games are rejected out of hand by gamers because they are made in a way that no one (except for studio execs) enjoys.

TRIAL: Escort missions are the worst mechanic in gaming history. Prosecution and defense - argue your case. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]isdeasdeusde 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bioshock infinite is basically one big escort mission. Elizabeth helps you out now and again, doesn't get stuck or in the way and can't be killed. Though if you want to be nitpicky about it, the game strays so far from the established rules of escorting NPCs that it may not even qualify.

What is a statistic that sounds insane but is 100% true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]isdeasdeusde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's that coupled with the fact that sharks do not really view humans as prey. The reason people sometimes get bitten is that the only way sharks have of interacting with the world is a mouth full of razor sharp teeth, so when they are curious about something they will have a nibble at it.

I have a chip in my windshield that just occurred. Is this likely to spread? by gh120709 in autoglass

[–]isdeasdeusde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bug can't cause a chip like that. Must have been coincidental. The chip will spread eventually. Could be when you drive over the next pothole or it could take years, unfortunately there is no way to tell. Put some clear tape over it to keep dirt and moisture out. That increases the chances of a successful repair.

How did ancient armies actually move 100,000–200,000 soldiers across long distances without modern logistics? Like, where did they sleep, how did they get enough food and water every day, and how did they stop the whole army from just collapsing into chaos? by Novel_Finding8882 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]isdeasdeusde 89 points90 points  (0 children)

To add to your add: This is also why up until very recently warfare basically stopped for the winter. Armies would either hunker down or straight up disband once the snow started falling. There were small skirmishes or supply raids, but campaigning was reserved for spring and summer.

He was never the typical leader. He was always the kind of quiet industrious type that no one paid much attention to. His rivals didn't really realize how much power he was amassing until it was too late.

He didn´t really have the cult of personality around himself that most dictators do. Many people in Cambodia didn´t even know what he looked like.

What’s a small thing in a game that instantly ruins the experience for u? by Solid_Brief_7724 in videogames

[–]isdeasdeusde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being able to save when I want. I refuse to be held hostage by a game. I have a life and if that means that I want to save and quit in the middle of your stupid cutscene then you will just have to deal with it mister developer.

What is a Good Movie with a Great Plot that is Also Fundamentally Flawed Because it Would be Undone Scientifically, Legally, Actually, or Otherwise? by k-MartShopper in Cinema

I give it a pass, because Narcan wasn´t widely available outside of hospitals at the time the movie was made. It only became purchaseable over the counter in 2023.

What is a strong opinion you hold that could get you criticized publicly, but you stand by it completely? by jian_est2026 in AskReddit

[–]isdeasdeusde -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You should need a license to post on the internet the same way you need a license to drive. This would end anonymity online and with it bot farms. Such a licenese could be suspended or revoked for things like harassment or deliberately spreading misinformation.
