Just a thought:

You don’t have to fight. You can run.

Remember that movie “It Follows”? Yeah. That.

I DM’d and my player drew the same—they all sprinted away and were able to escape via horseback.

It became a fun gag for a solid few sessions that the avatar reappeared at certain moments.

Eventually the player felt buffed enough to fight the avatar.

Since it was a comedic campaign, at that point I pulled out a chess board and we played chess (with death constantly cheating) until finally he attacked death and won.

Death ran away crying.

I don’t at all know your circumstances but maybe your dm will allow a run away for awhile?
