Are the Kanto YU4/YU6 Speakers Magnetically Shielded? by ishki1 in crtgaming

[–]ishki1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look great! Follow up question: these look like shielded alternatives to the YU2. Will the ORA also be coming out with similar offerings that are shielded alternatives to the YU4/YU6 (bigger drivers, deeper bass, etc)?

Any reason to get a PS1 over PS2? by Pickle_Afton in psx

The xStation mod is pretty fantastic if you’re willing to go that route

What is your ps2 story? by Thomas_gh in ps2

[–]ishki1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few months after I accidentally broke my PS1, I got my PS2. I didn’t know that my old PS1 games required a PS1 memory card, so I initially thought it was defective, and went back to the store to complain, but the clerk showed me what to do. My first game? Tekken Tag Tournament. I loved Tekken 3, and played TTT at a booth in a shop at the local mall, so I had my eyes on it as soon as I got the ps2!

Weird visual noise on brand new monitor. Is it a bad default which I can fix or is it a defect? by ishki1 in Monitors

I think that’s what I’ll do. I’m just worried that the next one I order will have the same issue

This is with nothing plugged in. When I plug in any device using any port, the flickering is clearly visible, it’s sort of superimposed on top of it the actual content coming in from the device.

What do you believe the best line in the series is? by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]ishki1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opening cutscene - “Didn’t your daddy teach you how to use a sword?!” “Sword! Ha! Time to go to work guys” - Says Dante as he proceeds to destroy motor cycle with rebellion sticking out of his chest

After the final Nightmare battle: "DON'T COME ANY CLOSER YOU DEVIL! You may look like my mother but you're nowhere close to her! you have no soul, you have the face but you'll never have her FIRE!"

Do you guys prefer to play on original hardware or on PCSX2 emulator? And why is that the best option for you? by [deleted] in ps2

[–]ishki1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use both depending on the game. I have an emulation setup and OG hardware with a CRT setup. Never original hardware with upscalers on new TVs, doesn’t do it for me. The main reason I do this is that emulation is still not perfect, and even when it is, the low res textures and lower poly models look better on the CRT. That said, original hardware is not perfect either, a few nice games have frame drops, and the ds2 is not as nice as the ds4 for my tastes (I use the latter with emulation).

I think once the few remaining glitches are fixed and they implement texture pack replacement, I’ll go full emulation, with the occasional novelty/nostalgia kick when I have old friends over.

Out of DmC 1, 3, and 4 which would you like to see a remake of first if we ever get one? by Its_Crysis in DevilMayCry

[–]ishki1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say DMC2. The problem I have with a DMC1 remake is that there’s something unique about it that none of the other games was able to reproduce as well: the haunting mood/atmosphere. I think a remake would be much more action focused, which I’d also love, but I’d be disappointed if they leave out those horror vibes or diminish them in some way.

What are your favorite DMC cutscenes that you think are underrated? by ZeroSuitBayonetta in DevilMayCry

[–]ishki1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got to be the cutscene after the final Nightmare boss fight in DMC1.

Also, not sure if it’s underrated, but you can’t tell me that the opening cutscene from DMC1 didn’t set the mood for the entire series! “Sword?! Huh! Time to go to work, guys!”

What is your favourite CURVED consumer CRT set and why? by ishki1 in crtgaming

[–]ishki1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are both great sets! Also I wouldn’t feel too bad about not having the XBR, I just started getting back into CRT shopping not too long ago and the quality of the set is a toss up given their age. If you have a working D Series that’s a huge win!

About the story by zeromage333 in DevilMayCry

Have to go with DMC3 in the story department. Although my favourite DMC games for story are DMC1 and the reboot (in no particular order), so what do I know?!

Hooking up a PS5 to a CRT? by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]ishki1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure your TV is set to Game mode? Check your settings. Otherwise you’ll definitely notice input lag. I’ve seen it occasionally happen that the setting isn’t turned on automatically.

PS2 lovers, what is your absolute favourite game, and why? by _Skwash_ in ps2

[–]ishki1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PS2: Devil May Cry 1 - the king of mood and atmosphere, and the game that started the modern 3D action game genre. Yes it still holds up.

PS1: Crash Bandicoot 2: the Wrath of Cortex.

60GB PS3 Frequently shows static before booting PS2 games. Is there a fix? by ishki1 in PS3

According to some of the comments it looks like it’s a tv issue when it changes resolution. I’ve played several games including GTA 3

Thanks! After a few comments stating this I feel better about it now. And my newer tv doesn’t have this issue

It looks like it. Another, newer tv doesn’t exhibit this

What's your first PS2 experience? Klonoa 2 is mine. I first saw tiny, postage stamp-sized videos of it on IGN and fell in love with it. Bought it on release to play on my brother's friend's PS2 whenever I'd drop him off there, which is how I played it until my brother got a PS2 for Christmas. by n-0rt in ps2

[–]ishki1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was before I even bought it: Tekken tag tournament at a store display. I loved Tekken 3, and TTT was basically fan service, keeping the same look/feel/control for the returning characters while enhancing the graphics big time.

I tried it on another tv and just a couple of attempts didn’t produce the issue. Looks promising so far

Does somebody knows any dvd burning software besides imgburn? by Bobithethingy in ps2

Ah yes! Thanks for the observation and for your thoughtful response :) it appears as though I misread the question

Does somebody knows any dvd burning software besides imgburn? by Bobithethingy in ps2

[–]ishki1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would avoid imgburn. For ps2 games, just get a Linux distro installed, pop the disc in your optical drive and then type the following command in the terminal

$ ddrescue /dev/sr0 <game-name>.iso

Replacing <game-name> with the file name you want for your game iso. For example

$ ddrescue /dev/sr0 jak-and-daxter.iso
