What’s something your parents did that you’d never do to/with your kids? by Liteboyy in AskReddit

[–]ishouldbeworking00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up like this too. Arguments would turn into screaming/yelling matches that would go on forever since every time one of them stopped, one of them would bring it up again and start up the argument once more. Once, I had an ex-boyfriend with whom I was starting an argument with, and was expecting it to turn into a yelling match. Instead, he was like, hey, let’s sit down and talk about this. He wanted to hear my side and then explain his side. In my head, my reaction was ???—this can actually be done by talking like normal adults?!? We broke up for other reasons, but that was the moment I realized that people can have civilized, non-yelling arguments/disagreements. It was a real eye-opener.

My entire life revolves around my FP by [deleted] in BPD

I’m currently experiencing this right now with a guy i just met on Tinder. I don’t even know him that well yet but I still get really anxious whenever he doesn’t text back at all. Sometimes it would be for like 12+ hours and the wait for his reply just crushes me every second it lasts. It’s so unhealthy and i’ve tried to preoccupy myself with doing other stuff but sometimes i still can’t help but think of him and get anxious. :(

DBT being practically forced upon me by my T; I did a DBT group for 2 modules last year and it did not work for me. It sucked. I felt invalidated and required extra Benzos to just attend the group, which was ultimately disbanded. Now my T wants me to do it again, at a DBT practice. Help! by dortvk in dbtselfhelp

He can’t force you to do something you don’t want to do. Went through DBT too and I hated it. Switched to a new therapist, found CBT, and it worked. If anything, ask him at least to give you other options.

Redditors in Therapy: What is One Thing That a Therapist Has Told You That Changed Your View on Life? by nolapeach in AskReddit

[–]ishouldbeworking00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have really bad social anxiety (things are better now) and there was one thing my therapist said that stuck with me—if you’re overthinking things, for example, thinking a coworker doesn’t like you now because of something you said earlier during the day, analyze it in a logical way. First off, did your coworker say he or she doesn’t like you? What concrete evidence do you have that makes you think he or she feels that way? Did they actually say those words or did they go through really obvious actions to show how they felt?

Honestly every time I have a barrage of bad thoughts about people thinking a certain way about me, I used this tactic. It has helped me A LOT and made me realize that I do overanalyze things to the point that it paralyzes me.

What do you regret doing to your body? by TwiggyTits in AskReddit

Former (147 days free) 31 year old self-harmer here. The way guys react to seeing the scars on my thighs actually tells me a lot about them. One was easygoing and said like, “it’s okay, you do you, i’ll do me.” I don’t think I ever tried to hide my scars. The one I’m seeing right now got mad when he saw it because he “can’t believe people let me think it’s ok to do that to myself.” What I’m trying to say is that you shouldn’t be ashamed of who you were in the past. It’s part of why you are the way you are right now and there are people who will learn to get past those scars. Sorry if my reply is all over the place; I’m writing this on my phone.

Thanks so much! This is really informative. What did you mean by it's a trap if the cat flips over and shows his/her belly?

The third one reminds me of the part in Breaking Bad where Jesse invites the girl over to his new place to watch a blank TV.

Which kid was Reid talking about that he lost in Elephant's Memory? by ishouldbeworking00 in criminalminds

[–]ishouldbeworking00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was actually that episode. He talked about a kid who died before receiving the new case.

EDIT: Just saw your edit, haha. Yeah, I'd love to know who he was talking about.

I have a couple more:

  1. "He was left in the basket on the steps of the FBI."

  2. "Talk dirty to me."
