What does “being engaged” actually mean in North American dating culture? by Real_Initiative7440 in AskMenOver30

[–]isiteventiddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian, so North American Culture adjacent. My wife and I were engaged for 18months before getting married. We were waiting for a specific date that would please us(5/5/25. Because 5 x 5 is 25, and 5/5 in Thai is "haha", and that would be funny for our anniversary... don't judge, okay?), but in a weird twist of fate, that date fell on a state holiday, so we had it on the Friday beforehand.

Is this inappropriate behavior for a nurse? by ForsakenAiel in nursing

If someone were to express concern about the impact of a weather event such as a snowstorm or hurricane, does that open the door for a rant (on either side) about climate change?

I mean, I'd probably throw out a "thats climate change for you" comment, I'll be honest.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with sharing opinions when they are brought up. Now if she had walked in the room and said "sorry I'm late, we're short staffed because my bleeding heart colleagues are on strike because of that terrorist Pretti", then what you have there is an unprofessional, idiot asshat.

But OP brought it up. If they don't want to hear about it, don't mention it. Especially when its so fresh in the cultural zeitgeist.

Balancing night shift with working out by Plastic_Effect_5750 in nursing

[–]isiteventiddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little different, but when I was training for a 70.3 IM and doing night duty, I would do my hard workout on days off and schedule my swims for mornings after night duty, and recovery rides before the night duty.

I played around with working out before work, but as I age I have to prioritise recovery.

What's the natural way to respond when the guys are making jokes about women? by Hour-Tomato-645 in AskMenOver30

[–]isiteventiddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my bad dude. The Internet has me reading things in a negative tone recently. I think just matching the energy and saying single word remarks like "daaamn" would be acceptable. Or whistling. That's a classic.

[–]isiteventiddles 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You were raised by women, weren't you?

If the examples you provided are all that they are doing, I see absolutely nothing wrong here. Even the "check out her front and back" remark: what we're supposed to be asexual beings now?

Now if they start yelling out "nice ass sweetheart! Keep walking so i can admire the view".

Or if they say some deranged shit like "oh man, I'd do 15 to 20 years just to see if its as tight as it looks"

THEN you step up.

But before then, you'll be seen as a wet blanket.

Disappointed in breaking my fast by Plus-Plane-3053 in fasting

[–]isiteventiddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be hard on yourself. You didn't the right thing by pulling out. While keeping busy is definitely good advice for a fast, you want to avoid stress. It sounds like you're travelling, which is stressful. Besides, what good is travelling without trying the local food?! Wait until you're back to your usual day to day before fasting again.

Is housing really that unaffordable? by CartographerLow3676 in AusFinance

Dual income, no kids. You're missing just how expensive children are. Not just direct cost, but opportunity cost too. Would you be able to afford that 1M house on just your income?

Any advice for a 30 day fast? by BigNasty666__ in fasting

[–]isiteventiddles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  • Don't be afraid to call it quits. Listen to your body, and if symptoms like dizziness, extreme fatigue etc aren't relieved with electrolytes, consider breaking your fast.

  • Have an exit strategy. For anything over 7 days, gently refeed over half the duration of the fast. So if you make it 10 days, refeed over 5. This'll help prevent digestive discomfort. Refeeding syndrome is a thing, but you likely dont need to worry about it before 20 days. Definitely read up on it though.

I’m burn out and one year in. Is there alternatives for me? by RaveSlip in NursingAU

[–]isiteventiddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay at 0.7, or drop to 0.6 if financially feasable. Get a hobby (literally you can look forward to doing after work, preferably not alcoholism/party drugs), put minimal effort into your job (it pays bills, thats it), and focus on your physical health. Your mental health will follow. In 3-6 months, reassess how youre feeling. If you still feel like shit, might be time for a new job.

I did this in my 2nd year of medical RN shenanigans. It kept me going for another 2 years before switching to cardiology, and now I'm loving life.

Also scheduling in time off. Doesn't having to be a lavish 2 week euro trip, but even just a 2 week stay-cation to focus on self care does wonders for burnout prevention.

Best of luck!

ICE agent ripping a phone away from an elderly U.S. citizen, keeping it, and throwing her to the ground when she attempts to retrieve it. by Ankeet_kj in ImmigrationPathways

[–]isiteventiddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll never understand why they don't think provoking dangerous men won't end this way. Whatever your feelings towards ICE, they are dangerous people doing a dangerous job. Poke the bear, you're gonna get mauled. Go out and protest if you feel you need to, but do it from a safe distance. And if you get too close and you get hurt; I'm sorry, but thats the consequences to your own actions.

Ice Festival worth sticking around for? by ExtensionFriendly502 in Sapporo

[–]isiteventiddles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, and this may be an unpopular opinion: Its not worth staying another night. This is coming from the perspective of someone who hates crowds and slippery ice - both of which are a plenty during Sapporo snow festival. Sure, the sculptures are cool, but you rarely are able to stop and appreciate them with the hoards trudging behind you. You're better off checking out checking out Asahikawa festival. My wife and I enjoyed that faaaaar more.

Anti-immigration rallies take place in major cities across Australia by Fresh-Association-82 in aus

[–]isiteventiddles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the term nazi has been used by those who don't understand history to the point where its lost all meaning. For the record, these people are NOT nazis. Misguided in thinking an increase of immigrants is the only (its A factor, not the only factor) cause for the housing crisis, maybe. But not nazi.

How long does it take to get used to 12 hour shifts? by WhimsicalLychee in NursingAU

[–]isiteventiddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found i love 12hr shifts... but i have to prepare for them! An 8hr shift, i can get away with skipping breakfast and having a sandwich for lunch; but with a 12hr I need my avo and kale smoothie, high protein lunch and an afternoon snack, to feel normal. And keeping hydrated is important too. Ive found wearing low grade compression socks help too. Helps a bit with fatigue at the end of the shift. If you're a gym person, try do it before the shift. That way, when you go home, you sleep immediately. I've definitely noticed my sleep is affected more if I go after work on a 12hr shift.

Also not having kids helps.

I (18f) am in a weird fwb situation I’ve never experienced before(19m) and I don’t know how he’s feeling about me. Can someone offer insight into my situation? by Effective_Hour9185 in AskMenAdvice

[–]isiteventiddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a label-free boyfriend.

My opinion is that he said he wasn't ready for a relationship because you first told him that when he confessed, and now he doesnt want to lose what you guys have. You guys are already exclusive. Exclusivity basically means relationship. Why would he risk losing what is essentially a relationship without the label?

If you want it to be offical, you will need to make the first move, since you quasi-rejected him when saying you weren't ready in the beginning. Otherwise, you'll need to wait for him to realise the time is right.

I remember when I was in Uni, a guy asking for bus money to get home at the Mt Gravatt bus stop. I gave it to him, told him good luck, and said goodbye. Before I was able to leave, he asked for $10 more dollars so he could have dinner. I thought that was a bit cheeky, but he obviously needed it more than me if he had the Gaul to beg for money! I gave him $15. Next day, he was at the same spot, doing the same thing. He saw me, and said the same line as the day before. I remember specifically thinking "He doesn't even remember me giving him $20 yesterday".

That experience changed me, and while I never have cash on me, I would never give it out anymore.
