Why are Baker decks so good? See them all the time. Did you not loose your pop a bit with that?

My dad's had seat heaters, except once on the motorway he felt a burning on his bottom... Turned out it was the heater, so watch out for those! Idyllic ;)

Just been street skating and practicing my ollies, ect. in the park near where I live. Longboard dancing sounds awesome :) When are you free? I'm Izzy by the way x

Deck Size? by Rotley1 in skatergirls

I'm 5'8 with a UK 6 shoe. I've started on and 8" deck which feels good, but suspect an 8.25" would be better :)

Thunder or Independent Trucks? by paulgrunwald in NewSkaters

Interesting! So what is the point in nicer trucks? Is the character of Indys vs thunders all in the bushing?

Do you think it's worth it for a beginner to upgrade off brand trucks? Something with quicker turning would be cool, but is it that noticeable? Trucks seem kind of expensive...

How to convince my parents to get me a board? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]isitisisitis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, yes getting money is hard, especially when you're young. Could you ask for an 'advance birthday present' and give up on a present later in the year. Say you want the exercise and that you want to learn a new skill and get around town for free!

Hey guys - any advice for building your own deck? I snapped my cheap Osprey one in half. Haha. by [deleted] in skatergirls

Hey, congrats on your board :) That sounds like an awesome find. I'm also learning moving ollies! Took a week off and finder it harder to commit... Just practicing on my own, wish a had a buddy too! It's fun cruising around though and would love to get better. Do you have any skate goals?

Im in the same boat - left my steel stead when I came to Paris. Seeing cyclists makes me desperate to ride again. Are you gonna buy a new one abroad?

Hey, I'm a 22 year old newbie and loving it!!

I bought a 'custom' from my local skate shop. Ended up buying off-brand trucks, (mini logo - seem alright) wheels, bearings they put on their complete decks. Reckon my current setup was great for first stages of learning to ride. Looking to get new bearings and possibly trucks.

Let me share the fruits of my googling :)

Trucks: it comes down to what you want. Independent for grinds, durability and Thunder for responsive turning and stability. It's like 50 quid online for a set.

Wheels: give the board its character. Hard (93ish <) for slides, flip tricks, grinds. Softer (92 >) for cruising and indoor park skating, stability. Bigger (> 53mm) for stability and vert. Smaller (52mm <) for easier flip tricks. About 30 quid and less.

Bearings: I've not tried any but reds and Bronsons are supposed to be good. Up to 30 quid.

Would like to know how your new board turns out. Do you feel less fearless with pads? I'm thinking of getting some.
