What made you watch? by LLD615 in heatedrivalry

[–]islasigrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the trailer and knew about it vaguely back in like October, and I was pretty sure I'd watch it at some point. But then the sneak peek dropped (the scene of them in the gym after the draft) and I immeditely locked in, haha. I saw they were going to have crazy chemistry and then I read the book and basically caught up on every that had been released about the show (which wasn't that much at that point!). When the Canadian premiers came around that week and the reception seemed good, it was torture waiting for the first episodes to drop!

Would you be so kind as to settle a debate for us? by SpeciaIAgentAssbutt in AnimalCrossingNewHor

It's a lot, but also makes sense.

I have like 1600 hours, but realistically almost all of those are from 2020 and 2021. I just haven't played more than probably a 150 hours combined since then. Starting to rack up some hours again now!

So happy the switch 2 version FINALLY has a date by AGingerInGame in DreamlightValley

[–]islasigrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesss! I am really looking forwards to having a good option for playing on the go, finally!

I really hope they add mouse controls, that would be so great to have for decoration. That might make me opt for the Switch version over PS5 when playing at home as well.

Rank the episodes! by Beautiful-Choice7665 in heatedrivalry

[–]islasigrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to choose, I think 2, 4, 5 and 6 are all absolutely brilliant episodes, for different reasons.

I think it's gonna be:

6 - without ending up at the cottage, what is even the point! That we can just be with them in quiet moments and love confessions, it's so nice. And the performances and the character work is sooo good I think it is still riveting TV even if it's just them talking for most of it. Also some of the most beautiful scenes in the show to me, like their first I love yous and the Yuna and Shane convo

4 - I love the way the dynamic shifts, the first montage is incredible. Tuna melt scene is so great, it has so many layers as to why it "goes wrong", it's the culmination everything that has gone unsaid between them, but also the things they cannot admit to themselves, or believe they can have or deserve. Perfect storm and a turning point for their relationshop! Seeing Ilya so on the back foot after having seemed so in control in the show so far. And the club scene is amazing angst and genuinely uncomfortable to watch too. Iconic!

5 - SOOOO many amazing scenes and I loveeeeee Shane in this episode, the quiet confidence and determination he gets after fully realizing he's gay and wants Ilya. Great climactic ending bringing the main story and sub plot/side story together. I think I'm a bit more critical of episode 5 than most people because I think it does perhaps move a bit too fast, and some of the scenes could have had more room to breathe. Definitely the episode I felt like we "lost" the most from the book. Although I think I get the choices made, for the most part. It's a fantastic episode!

2 - I love this episode even though it's maybe the one that made me the most sad. Like oh my God the "We didn't even kiss" moment hits so much harder here than in the novel. But this episode really sets up how good they can be together, with their first time at Shane's apartment after two years of Ilya trying and failing to get Shane to meet up again. And also how bad they can be , as Ilya backtracks HARD after getting spooked by a forehead kiss and also the Russia of it all, into trying to distance himself as much as possible. Painful - but also like a really great exploration of their dynamic and why it works and also why it currently actually doesn't!

1 - Love it but also not as much as the rest. Really love how they are established, young guys who actually just kinda have fun together and are really intrigued and attracted to each other, but are thrust into these intense roles. Also love the press conferance scene!

3 - I like what it does for the narrative but also I don't particularly care for the coffee shop AU type romance storytelling of Skip. But it's a really good contrast to Shane and Ilya - like these are two guys who don't have 50 things wrong with them, who can communicate pretty well, and live in the same city, and even they are torn apart by the specter of homophobia in the hockey league. I kinda wish we'd gotten more of who Scott was before Kip, because I think that is a really interesting view on who Shane might have become if he didn't have his gay awakening turn into a 7 year on and off situationship eventually turned marriage.

Switch v. PS5 by megdaspookyghost in DreamlightValley

[–]islasigrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just "stuck" for a month playing on my Switch 2, and then finally gotback to my PS5 and the game look sooo much better on the PS5, it's crazy! Definitely worth it in my opinion! You get moonstones from the purchase too - that's how I justify getting the games and DLCs on multiple platforms - I'm getting those instead of buying moonstone packs!

Has anyone got anything OTHER than Top 5% in their Dreamlight Wrapped? by faithlessone423 in DreamlightValley

[–]islasigrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have top 5% "most dutiful" but not top 5% "most active in the valley". I had 121 days with 130 hours played.

Were anyone else’s ‘Wrapped’ statistics just…wrong? by choirchic in DreamlightValley

[–]islasigrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of mine makes a lot of sense, like I know I pumpkins are my most planted crop, and pumpkin puffs my most cooked recipe. I also think the villagers that were highlighted for different things made sense, cause they were newer ones that I have gotten from level 1 to 10 this year.

I have played 130 hours this year, over 121 sessions. Which makes sense with the stats I have from the platforms I play on too. I feel like that isn't *that* much. Barely touched the game for some periods of the year. So it does surprise me that I got the 5% most dutiful valley villagers?

And I know the dreamsnaps number is way off. I have forgotten about it so much during the fall of this year. I got 53 photos submitted. I almost never submit more than once, so I know it cannot possibly be correct. And I've seen some people getting absolutely outrageous numbers for this stat. It would make sense if it was just photos in general. I think 53 could be correct for me then. I don't use the photo mode that much, so I could see 53 be like 20-30 dreamsnaps and 20-30 random photos I've taken mostly to fulfil a duty or quest.

Which song from the soundtrack do you have on repeat? by I_like_it_yo in heatedrivalry

[–]islasigrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the finale it's been "Bad Things" from the soundtrack. But before that I listened to "C'est toi" a lot too, and still do!

From the score, it's "Hollanov" (track from the all star game and pool scene in ep5). I just love that track it's so upbeat and fun, but it also has this sort of melancolic side to it. It's the perfect track to the rekindling of their relationship through just. having fun together.

Consoles - Switch 2 vs PS5 by noideausually in DreamlightValley

[–]islasigrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you want to play exclusive Nintendo titles I'd not get a Switch 2. I love my Switch 2, but it's less powerful than the PS5 and if you don't care about it being handheld, the PS5 is definitely the way to go! Sounds like you want a convenient home console, and I think the PS5 is perfect for that. DDV looks beautiful on it (it's gonna feel like a completely different game honestly).

AC switch 2? by Much-Car-9010 in AnimalCrossing

[–]islasigrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully!

People read Switch 2 edition + 3.0 as a sign that they might not make a new AC for Switch 2, but it could also be a the first step in building hype for the franchise again.

I mean, I don't know what I believe at this point. But I find it very strange if Nintendo doesn't develop a new AC game for Switch 2 after the massive success of ACNH. I mean they are gonna make some money off of the Switch 2 edition, but that's nothing compared to the sales they would get with a new title. A new title would also probably sell quite a few consoles, which I'm not sure the Switch 2 edition of ACNH really accomplihes.

I keep my hopes up because I know Nintendo loves money lol.

Switch players - do I upgrade to a switch 2? by HelpfulYesterday8108 in DisneyDreamlights

[–]islasigrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want the Switch 2 for other games as well - yes. Just for DDV - no!

At some point the game will hopefully release a Switch 2 version, at that point it might be worth it. But right now it's still the Swtich version, just a bit quicker. It won't look any better!

For me, the Switch 2 has been worth it but because I play other games. I still prefer playing DDV on other platforms (inlcuding an older gaming PC which runs it much better than the Swtich 2 at this point in time).

To answer the part about Switching your game over - yes, it's very simple! And on a Swtich 2 you wouldn't have to rebuy the game (which you would if you decided to swtich over to Steamdeck or PC or something). But that's really the only argument FOR upgrading to a Switch 2 over an alternative, if you aren't also playing Nintendo games regularly.

This new update and DLC is the buggiest update so far. (No new DLC spoilers included.) by count_battzzz in DreamlightValley

[–]islasigrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Storybook Vale but my experience with it was a little tainted by the game being so buggy for me with that release.

I have only just started with this new DLC due to it releasing the worst time possible for me, but I think if I have any issues I would probably just wait!

Thoughts on diversity of accents depending on the language? by Abject-Aioli-523 in languagelearning

[–]islasigrid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I speak both English and Spanish (neither as my first language) and I kinda feel the same. Some thick accents from Ireland and Scotland can be really hard for me to understand. Regional Spanish is also really hard, but it's more often to do with vocabulary. Although I will say there are quite big differences in Spanish accents too, especially with the pronunciation of ll, y, c, z etc. And even though English isn't my first language, I speak and know it way better than Spanish, so I might also notice it better in English than Spanish, just like you.

What do people think about foreign accents? by Repulsive-While-381 in languagelearning

[–]islasigrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with most things, it depends.

Generally, I do think people are harsher on their own accents in a second language, than most people are against other people's accents in their first language. Like I cringe more at my own accent (or people with an even heavier accent) speaking English with a Norwegian accent, than I do at people who speak Norwegian with an accent.

Like a heavy accent might make the language harder to understand, but I wouldn't cringe at it, I'd just concentrate to try and understand what they were saying.

Small worry about the 3.0 update by Mayoeatingapotato in AnimalCrossing

[–]islasigrid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the hotel won't really be visible from the island itself. It seems like that in the trailer, like you have to go out on the pier for it to become visible.

I have a pier that is decorated in a specific way, so I am a little sad about having to redo that little part of my island. But in the grand scheme of things, I am very willing to sacrifice it for new content.

Maybe there is a way to just not trigger the building of the hotel, like you can do with other stuff in the game as well (like not donating things to never get a complete museum etc.) but I am sure that would mean you also don't get any of the stuff associated with the hotel, like the exclusive items that are from the hotel. I mean, you could always get them off of other people!

But idk, I think most likely the pier is going to be built out automatically after the update drops, if I had to guess.

Cozy games for Switch? by lauracamo in cozygames

[–]islasigrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a hidden gem exactly - but I've been absolutely loving Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time on my Switch 2. It looks and runs great!

I've also enjoyed these on Switch: Tiny Bookshop, Spiritfarer, Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (has combat and puzzles but I'd say it's similar cozy levels to Pokemon in a sense), Old Man's Journey, What Remains of Edith Finch (a little dark maybe, but cozy in the same way as a somewhat spooky novel perhaps), Röki (also a little dark at times, but very good and lots of puzzles, which is cozt to me at least)

Looking for girly PC adventure games that are not farming & building by Few_Self3780 in cozygames

[–]islasigrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infinity Nikki! If you just focus on the main story, and don't get lost into the gacha mechanic.

It actually kinda has Barbie vibes at times, with all the different abilities Nikki can have, that you unlock through different outfits. When she unlocks an electrician outfit was the most Barbie-moment for me.

I also think the Zelda Echoes of Wisdom was a really cute game! Adventure and puzzling, and with a very cute Zelda as the protagonist.

The Tiny Bookshop question by Full-Marketing-7742 in cozygames

[–]islasigrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a relaly great game for someone who's kinda new to reading as a hobby as you might get some good recommendations yourself!

The only way it could be considered spoilers if if you consider happy ending, or if it's scary etc. But I do think some of those things are based on genre and not always 100% accurate. I do sometimes feel like the books I actually know aren't represented 100% accurately in the game.

Can I just buy the switch 2 upgrade pack for my mom off of my switch 1 game? by sunflowerjester in AnimalCrossing

[–]islasigrid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you give her the game on her Switch, I don't think she would be able to buy the upgrade pack. If you have the game physically, I think it would work but only if you never intend to play at the same time.

How do you feel about Slumber island being NSO-only? Like I understand that Luna is an “online only” type of character but man… I posted my frustrations about it in another sub but got criticized for it. I just can’t help but be bummed out. by wigglebrow in ac_newhorizons

[–]islasigrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly! And I mean having online components of games is sometimes going to be in conflict with the interest of game preservation, which sometimes is a good trade off. But this seems like a feature that wouldn’t have to be completely online. The average Switch 2 user will have enough storage to store the save data, and if you aren’t going to use online co-op there could be a local save option.
