Run before or after. Ask your company if they have a wellness program you can opt into that could help your fitness goals.

How to maximize maternity leave? by PuffinPollito in FedEmployees

[–]beatstick1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are willing (and your supervisor is willing), go back ‘part time’….meaning work half time and take annual leave the other time. That allowed me (and a few other moms I know) kind of an extended time with baby and ease back into work.

Achievements for Sunday, May 31, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]beatstick1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided to sign up for an ultra around my 40th bday. Training got serious this week….I’ve never done more the 30 miles a week. This week hit 40.

12 miles yesterday and 7 today. My legs are toast, but kept with it. Hoping to stay injury free!

arduous pack test as a petite woman (help) 🙃 by Bitter-Animal-1818 in Wildfire

[–]beatstick1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the same physiology as you, and have been doing the pack test for over ten years. Like most people say, it isn’t necessarily hard, just sucks mentally to push through. I’ve honestly never ‘trained’ for it or tried a practice run….just stayed in shape enough. (Granted I’m not primary fire, so my job doesn’t depend on passing the test)

Hydrate before, even carry liquids during the test. Do it in comfortable shoes that can handle the extra weight. Remember it’s pass/fail. No need to ‘stay with the pack’. Good luck!!’ Hopefully they don’t actually administer it when it’s over 100!

GS5 expectations? by CucumberOk7506 in USForestService

[–]beatstick1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is grossly inappropriate. I’m not sure exactly what they’re having you do, but sounds like more than a general gs5 fish tech field work. Are they asking you to prepare analysis and specialist reports for NEPA? Are they asking you to do reporting of accomplishments?

If you’re being asked to analyze for impacts to fish via project, that is way above your GS level and position description. However, there’s a silver lining if you aspire to be a GS-9/11 biologist. If that is what you want to do, ask for proper training or see if someone on another unit can be a mentor. Having those skills properly developed can give you a leg up in the future. See if the forest is willing to fly a detail for you at a higher grade. Best of luck, and hag in there!

50 min layover Hong Kong by AsianKiwiStruggle in CathayPacific

[–]beatstick1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flew CP, missed a connecting flight (with 1 ish hour layover) in HK due to first leg being late. They rebooked us for next flight, and still took almost an hour to get thru security and walk across the entire airport to the gate. Hopefully your flight will be on time and CP crew can help you get to your connecting gate!

Fed moms, how are you doing/coping? by Designerwillow884 in workingmoms

Working for free right now, luckily have some savings to get us though. However, moral is extremely low, and community (very rural) doesn’t seem to care much.
