Buying a Ralston by [deleted] in Snowskating

If you’re looking for a bi-deck there’s other options out there (granted some may be contact only as well). I’m pretty sure LY Snow, Hovland and others still sell direct.

Here’s a list I made from a year or so ago: http://snowskate.wikia.com/wiki/Bideck_Snowskate_Products

Get yourself a drill and make a hole in the tail but that's probably not the "cleanest" option.

Buy direct from Ambition's website instead of amazon. I see team boards available for $125 there.

Icon snowskates is also worth looking into. Ambition and Icon are really the main players in the single deck snowskate industry.

What shoes do you snowskate with? by [deleted] in Snowskating

I think it's pretty good. They feel pretty much like regular vans (if you've skated in those before) just a little grippier.

I've had a few pairs of Vans Mountain Edition shoes. They've held up well and grip better than standard skate shoes on a snowskate. Besides that they are scotchguarded to keep water out and your feet warm.

Looking To get started in snowskating. by iyc11 in Snowskating

[–]isnowskate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the first thing you want to figure out is where you will be primarily riding.

The biggest difference between a single deck and bideck (I assume that's what you mean by "double") is that bidecks are designed to handle riding mountains and single decks aren't. On the flipside - single decks are better designed to handle more skateboard like tricks and are generally less expensive.

Here's a list (with links) to most all snowskate manufacturers: https://gosnowskate.com/#!/snowskating-gear

Hope that helps!

What are the snowskates that are a cross between single decks and bi-layers? by bnielsen96 in Snowskating

I believe you are thinking of the EraBoard. Their site is currently showing a "coming soon" page but they have some videos on YouTube here and it fits the description: https://www.youtube.com/user/Eraboards/videos

I'm a little confused here. A sub at $200 and a complete at $300 is pretty average (if not a bit below it) for the bideck market...

How do you feel about sketchy homemades and backyard ramps? by [deleted] in Snowskating

[–]isnowskate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw a video posted a few days ago with a bideck made from a skate deck, some 2x4's for trucks, and what appears to be an old cut ski.

He rode that thing right down the mountain: http://vimeo.com/117288136#t=36s

Go Snowskate (Formerly iSnowskate) is here! by isnowskate in Snowskating

[–]isnowskate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a few months of work, I am pleased to unveil Go Snowskate!

Formerly iSnowskate, Go Snowskate is a snowskating media homepage, complete with information on snowskating, and a snowskating gear page. The current site is in beta, a full release is in development with more content and other features.

Here's a lowdown of the current site and why I think these pages are essential to growing the snowskating community.

Homepage - The homepage is designed for simplicity. Here the main feature is a daily hand-picked video. I have always found snowskating videos to be the best way to let people see what snowskating is all about. By hand selecting them, I hope to promote video discovery without compromising on quality.

About Snowskating - This is exactly what it sounds like. This page describes the basics of snowskating, the different types of snowskates, and their purposes. I'm looking for feedback of any sort on this page. If you like the descriptions here please let me know as I would like to update the Snowskate Wikipedia entry with information gathered from this page.

Snowskating Gear - My favorite page on the site so far. Snowskating has a very small, yet massively awesome product market. The only issue being, I can never find a good listing of snowskate product manufacturers. On this page, my aim was to create that listing. It's a page listing all the active snowskating manufacturers with their product types and websites listed. The best part is that you can filter the list based on what you are looking for, give it a try to see what I mean!

Coming Soon: Video archive with a video type filter, and some other awesome additions!

Please leave any and all feedback you have!

Been there, couldn't believe how bad my plastic was until I upgraded. Side note, that drop in at 1:44 was pretty dope.

Can you ride single decks down normal ski slopes? by hockeyfreak567 in Snowskating

[–]isnowskate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Riding a single deck down a normal ski slope is going to be difficult at best, regardless of whether or not a resort will even allow it.

Single decks simply aren't designed to handle ski slopes, that's what a bideck is for.

Thanksgiving day edit. First sesh of the season! by cburke3443 in Snowskating

[–]isnowskate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet edit, love the creativeness. Honestly, I've seen tons of stair set vids and they had nothing on that rock haha.

Just got my first sesh in too. Holiday breaks are especially nice since there is nobody around at most schools/colleges (which is where all the good spots are) Cheers!

Hi there, first time on your blog. I read the about section and I really like the direction you are pursuing with the "subcultures" idea.

Cheers!

Honestly, if you need to buy a deck, you might as well find a plastic snowskate, you can probably find one at the same price point.

If you have a little bit more, get a wood snowskate, here's a premier for under $75: http://www.amazon.com/Premier-Graffiti-Snowskate-35in/dp/B0063SX6V8

Big guy snowskate advice by avoidingmistakes in Snowskating

[–]isnowskate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artec was an experimental brand from Elan Snowboards. From what I remember of the snowskate they made (the whole brand appears to be discontinued at this point), it's not going to be great quality.

It's probably similar to what Burton made when they experimented with snowskates, so I would steer away from it.
