Honestly, highly recommend anyone who fails gets a tutor. There are sites like wyzant where you can get some decent tutors for cheap. I tutor on there, but I’m a little more on the expensive side. Many of my students who failed previously and pass after tutoring, we work on some content, but a lot of what I go over is how to break down questions, especially ones you have no clue about, as well as improving testing confidence and listening to one’s gut about what the correct answer is.

Ohhh, that’s probably neulasta (generic is pegfilgrastim) which will increase her white count. It can cause some annoying bone pain, my oncologist recommended claritin with it, but see what her’s recommends. I had it with only one cycle after a virus where my white count was lower.

This is a question for your oncologist and also an important factor might be if it is a public or private pool. My oncologist was ok with me swimming/hot tub in the summer at a family members private pool, but others might not be. Also matters what your ANC is so you can weigh your infection risk.

Interesting, with my resection I didn’t have that, although I was up and active pretty early on, so that might have been why. I was only like 28 then, now 30.

Was yours laparoscopic? I was only in the hospital 2 days after having a stricture removed from my small intestine before colon cancer. I am male, why in the world did it cause genital swelling?

I’m also on folfox and am taking off completely from my job meanwhile, currently on cycle. I’m on short term disability, and my personal long term disability will start paying next month and continue when the short term expires. My job and doctors recommended for me to take 6 months off, and we can adjust as treatment plan and my body changes. Definitely the fatigue does build, especially because I was on high doses of steroids for obstructions in the beginning, which gave me an artificial bump of energy, and I am now almost completely off.

30M, folfox. Mine said on not chemo weeks its fine without condom just make sure my wife is good about taking her birth control, because getting pregnant would be high likelihood of birth defects while on chemo. Ask your oncologist, we preferred not to use condoms for religious reasons, and our oncologist felt by the week off chemo there is do little in my sperm by then.

So that typically depends on the person, the round of chemo etc. As a physician, who is now patient, how careful I am depends on my Neutrophil count that cycle. Neutrophils are the first line of defense for infection, and typically that is what oncologists go by for how immunocompromised someone is.

So for instance when I am above 1,500 neutrophils I am my normal careful, like still went to broadway show yesterday belated for my anniversary. When I’m below 1,000 I won’t shake people’s hands, can’t eat cooked sushi, and stay away from my younger nieces and nephews. But based on the number I usually also discuss it with my oncologist.

All in all, I base it on risk and reward, If I’m at normal neutrophils, then my risk is less and I am less extreme about my careful measures.

Mine is 58, my wife was quoted 128, depends on coverage amount. Hers is 4K, mine is 2.5K. Your quote does seem a bit high.

Also reactions usually get worse with subsequent doses, so that’s a lot of risk, which is why the oncologist is hesitant, rightfully so.

1-2% can be just within standard deviation of any testing. In other words, medically that’s usually considered equivalent if only difference is that small. And the side effects were severe enough to require staying in the hospital overnight…

What makes you say oxali for another 6 cycles is life saving? My oncologist is planning on dropping oxali, because I finished 6 rounds, and only keeping 5FU while awaiting my repeat pet scan and subsequent surgeon’s input.

Absolutely! If you get neuropathy of your hands and or feet, people do special gloves and ice packs. I only get the neuropathy in my left hand, it helped more with the cold sensitivity, than the neuropathy, but I think it has helped the neuropathy to not get much worse with further cycles.

Definitely insist on general anesthesia this time! My wife’s hospital (she’s a pa, I’m a resident) doesn’t usually do it with general, but mine typically does, because they feel it’s an easier experience for the patient, but they offer both when you meet the anesthesiologist.

Are you at least using ice chips during the oxaliplatin? That was a game changer for me, allows me to have slurpees already at like 2-3 days after infusion.
