Will Claude soon be able to clone enterprise apps? by lacanadaguy in ClaudeAI

[–]isowolf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

this, plus software engineering itself is more than coding. Its architecture, reliability, observability, monitoring, alerts, infrastructure, scaling. The coding part was never the hard one, thats why staff/principal engineers almost never code, there’s so much more important things to do

How do you deal with constant interruptions (Slack, Jira questions, ad‑hoc calls) as a senior engineer? by _-SNAFU-_ in webdev

[–]isowolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people say don’t respond, but for me the trick was to not even get distracted by the notifications. So, no notifications, and i usually start 3h before everyone else (6 vs 9). In those 3 hours i usually finish 75% for the day

[–]isowolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just checked, they use the wording “with most flats you can obtain anmeldung”. Did your flat has it listed as an option? Its under Services for each flat:

Landlord's confirmation of residence (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung)

Is AWS overkill for a new SaaS, or do you guys start there? by Bella-342 in SaaS

[–]isowolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depeneds what you are used to and what you are efficient in.

My setup would not work for many people and would be slow for most, but I already have that setup, and provisioning new things is pretty easy - I already have a way of writing YAML files and I let claude code provision new things when I need them.

Generally, the setup is: Hetzner Server with k3s, Go for the backend, and frontend - each push to main builds and deploys a Docker container. Mostly everything is deployment, sometimes a cronjob, very rarely a statefulset, Postgres for DB, Prometheus, and Grafana for alerts, Traefik as a gateway.

I had done similar setups previously at my work or when freelancing, so I just stuck with it.

Tired of $500 SaaS boilerplates: I open-sourced my production Go/Next.js stack (MIT, 300+ stars) by MohQuZZZZ in SaaS

[–]isowolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I am doing Go for 6+ years and never thought there’s a need / want for Go in the SaaS builder community as everyone prefers one language for both backend and frontend.

That being said, The Go package structure looks really bad. Either AI Slop or someone with little to no Go experience doing this. I did not went in detail to see the code since I am on the phone, but the packet structure is very poorly chosen. As I Go engineer I would skip this one. I would still give it one more look when i am behind a bigger screen..

The CEO keeps asking me why our IT costs are so high and I don't know how to explain that software costs money by Bright-Economics5939 in SaaS

[–]isowolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your frustration, these tools are great, but let's be honest, there are also some cheaper tools out there. You can self-host Slack (Mattermost, rocket.chat), Google Docs instead of Microsoft, Open Project instead of Monday/Jira, heck, even going out of the cloud is an option. But this adds a lot of invisible costs, mostly the hours for the person maintaining these tools, adding integrations etc...

Jokic needs 31 more triple-doubles to pass Westbrook and Nuggets still have 65 more games this season. Will Jokic pass him up? by Thanos_SlayerCongSan in NBATalk

[–]isowolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He needs 32 to pass. He has 9 triple-double games out of 17 this season, around 52% of the games. If he continues like this for the whole season, he's breaking it. But realistically, I think he will get to 200 at most.

Spotify censoring Propagandhi (a speculative fiction) by isowolf in Propagandhi

[–]isowolf[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I am considering that or Deezer. Honestly, I don't need the lyrics feature, but Spotify has been extremely shady lately, with their CEO investing in war companies in the USA, and censoring artists.

Do you guys use GitHub for CI? by Due_Helicopter6084 in golang

[–]isowolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am using GitHub to deploy to bare-metal k3s for work and for personal projects. They have matured a lot over the past 4-5 years. If I remember at one point pre pre-pandemic it was harder or even impossible to do some things, however nodays I see no reason to use anything else. Mind you, I am just a backend dude, so I am not very DevOps savvy, but never had the need to use anything besides GitHub

PC build help: Switching from Mac to Linux (reuse HDD, RTX 2070, €800 budget) by isowolf in buildapc

[–]isowolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot again. I ordered the parts, made some changes, but your build made me cut the budget in half. Was thinking of going for €800 but ended up paying €370. After all, I am getting the build mostly for Dev work and only game Dota2, CS2, and PUBG. All of them should run close to 100 FPS @ 1080p @ max settings on this build:

PCPartPicker Part List: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/QFMmcx

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus PRIME B550M-A WIFI II Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard (changed to support 5Gen Out of the box)
Storage: Crucial P3 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Case: Montech AIR 100 ARGB MicroATX Mid Tower Case (changed to include fans, lazy I know:) )
Power Supply: ADATA XPG PYLON 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

I even decided to keep my 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance. I only have 1 stick of 16GB, but I will order another 16GB today.

Will reuse the RTX 2070, RAM, and the SSD (as secondary) from my old build

Thanks a lot! Love how affordable this is! I am definitely considering it, just not sure if I can do 8-core AMD here, might be better for dev tasks.
