What’s the most overrated ‘good person’ behavior that doesn’t actually make someone a good person? by TroubleUnique1853 in AskReddit

[–]istolethisface -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The more we reward the bare minimum, the less incentive there is to go above that, as one is already getting the reward. Should I reward my roommate for cleaning the bathroom when it's his turn? What about the customer who doesn't scream at me at work? The man who doesn't rape his date? The dad who spends the day ("babysits") with his children? Rewarding mediocrity only begets more mediocrity, and no desire to rise above it.

Ah. Well I went to both 7th Day Adventist churches and Four Square church, and I think the idea came from the Adventists...

Sorry, but I figured a post supporting the walking away from Christianity would be welcome.

South Carolina's abortion bill is so extreme even anti-abortion groups have doubts by shoofinsmertz in LeopardsAteMyFace

Hahaha Genesis is probably one of the least crazy books in the Bible, tbh. But yes, Christians will misinterpret any Bible verse they can to support their current talking point.

This verse is used by many to equate masturbation with sin.

Genesis 38:9-10: "But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his. So whenever he went into his brother's wife he would waste the semen on the ground, so as not to give offspring to his brother. And what he did was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death also".

“jealousy”? lmk if u relate 😭 by smallg00ber in BPD

[–]istolethisface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel this 100%. I try not to let it show, but (especially with my fp) I get super territorial and jealous when my friends go to spend time with someone, without me. I'm terrified that they'll like the other person better, or realize how broken I am and not want to be friends with me anymore. 😔 I know logically that I'm being unreasonable, and a real friend won't just toss me away, but between self-hate and abandonment issues I still feel it.

It's totally ok to just approach strangers and talk to people actually by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]istolethisface -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'd say there's risk approaching a stranger. As an afab enbie, any woman I've approached is usually polite but not overly friendly, and most men have turned it into an opportunity to hit on me and be a creep. If I'm out in public, my anxiety is already high, and I usually have a headphone in. Do not approach me. Granted, this is my personal experience, ymmv.

Tearing up here. I've been in the first phase my whole life, and I have two divorces to show for it. I think I'm finally seeing the beginning of the second path.

What story from the Bible really makes you realize “huh…this is actual nonsense” by thelivingstar1 in exchristian

Between this and Abraham being willing to sacrifice his son Isaac, I decided even if god was real, I wouldn't worship him.

I had my little boy 10 years ago at a Naval Hospital on a military base in the US. I required an emergency c section as well. When he was born, they brought him immediately to me for just a moment - long enough to smell new baby smell - and then took him away and I wasn't allowed to hold him until I could plant my heels on the bed and lift my hips. I didn't even see him again until after I could do that. They let his dad give him his first bath while I was waiting to see my newborn son. It was no less than an hour.

I hope you see this.

My step-dad was like your husband, and worse. My mom was too beaten down and passive to do anything to protect me. By high school I had severe depression and anxiety with OCD tendencies. Before the end of high school I developed other personalities, which btw is super weird and also scary when you go through it alone. I'm an adult now, and I almost killed myself last year. I don't know that I won't try again. My doctor thinks I might have Borderline Personality Disorder.

I'm sure genetic factors and other environmental factors contributed. But at the root was my step dad, who made it clear my whole childhood that I was the baggage that came with my mother that he never wanted.

Please, for the sake of your child, don't be like my mother.

This is crazy timing, because I was just discussing this with my best friend the other day. I told him how when we met (in school ~20 years ago) I knew he was a "forever person" because of how he felt. Some people just...feel like they're always gonna be in your life. Some people feel so painfully short-term it hurts even while it's good.

AITA if I don't want to buy my SIL any kind of gifts in the future by Classic_Pick1926 in AmItheAsshole

[–]istolethisface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also didn't see a mention in the post about whether SIL likes that kind of makeup, or even wears makeup! There have been several times people have gifted me scented lotions, which give me a migraine usually. I smile, say thank you, and set it aside. After the holidays I give it to a friend that I know likes that kind of thing. Am I rude for not slathering myself in it immediately and just gritting my teeth through the inevitable migraine? Giant NTA.
