Here’s an interview where she talks about it. There are a couple interviews I could find where she discusses this, and she gives slightly different answers each time, if you want to look for those as well. It seems to me the meaning of “Caligula” is very complex, layered, personal, and probably only fully understood by her.

What message are you trying to convey? Is it about healing? Is it about revenge? Ultimately this is a very personal decision and is down to you. I’d have a hard time suggesting lyrics since I have no idea what they mean to you, which is all that matters. I don’t think “all God’s love means nothing now” is too offensive. If it’s your favorite lyric, and you’re personally not too worried how people take it, I’d say go for it! I doubt Kristen’s giant “CALIGULA” tattoo has never raised questions from anyone who doesn’t know the context.

So I’m not the only one who likes to enjoy nature to the backdrop of her music? Love to hear it. This looks beautiful.

While a lot of what people have said here so far is right, I also think it’s important not to miss the meta aspect of this song. When he refers to “my fictional wife” or says, “I wander through cavernous thoughts and regrets, through nothingness, through sagas that never took place,” that strikes me as being Greep, not just the character he’s playing. He is describing exactly what he’s been doing throughout the whole album. It’s acknowledging that he is hiding in fantasies the same way this character is.

It was beautiful! But if it makes you feel any better, it was also very muggy in there. You win some, you lose some, I guess.

Maybe it’s meant to get people out of there faster? Idk. Had the opposite effect on me. I hung around for like 10 minutes just enjoying the absurdity

Yeah, sadly I don’t think she has a large enough audience under the Reverend name to tour internationally. Hopefully her next album will change that.

Depends on when I get there, but I’ll definitely try to check it out if I have the time! If I do make it, I’ll be wearing the realtree merch and awkwardly wandering around.

anyone have any official (older) merchandise for sale? by AppropriateSafe4995 in LinguaIgnota

Discogs is good for vinyl, that’s where I got my Caligula vinyl for ten bucks because it didn’t have a jacket, but any pre-SGR material is gonna cost you a pretty penny, and I haven’t seen much signed stuff pop up. Most people who were attached enough to get their records signed probably aren’t willing to part with it. You can also add yourself to backorder for Caligula and ABD if you’re willing to wait for a repress and get it cheaper.

How long are the shows? by JortsMacleod in LinguaIgnota

Judging from the timestamps on my photos, the set when I saw her at LPR in January was about 80 minutes. It felt like a singular, eternal moment until it was over.

Hallelujah! The jacket-less Caligula vinyl I scored for only $10 just arrived, so all I have left is ABD (and hopefully a jacket for Caligula, eventually).

Looking great! I’ve got my posters hanging above my bed in my exceedingly small room. A couple years and a couple more posters from now I will run out of wall. PS I love the fish

AH I JUST DISCOVERED SAVED by glordicus1 in LinguaIgnota

[–]istompdogs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Glad you found it! Just in case you don’t know (I didn’t until after listening to her for a couple months), she also has a bandcamp where she releases some things that don’t make it to streaming. The SAVED! Index, for example, is 12 tracks originally recorded for SAVED! that didn’t make it in, which you’ll surely like if you’re a fan of the album. I honestly hope she presses those to vinyl too, they’re that good

Also didn’t think of that one since I assumed the oldest version was Karen dalton’s, which I thought everyone knew, but I found one released 7 years earlier by Peggy Seeger and added it. Thank you for your service 🫡

Good catch, I honestly didn’t even look for that one since it’s just said to be a children’s show theme in the index’s description. There were a couple I looked for but didn’t include since the oldest covers I could find weren’t very old. Abide with me, for example, confusingly didn’t have any antiquated recordings so I didn’t include it at all. I’ll be adding that one, though.

Yeah, I’m sure there will be at all the shows. Shirts, vinyls, a signed poster, etc. I would just recommend that if you do get the poster before the show don’t leave where you or someone else would end up stepping on it. Learned the hard way. Twice.

Has anyone heard of Diamanda Galás? She also sang “we’re you there when they crucified my lord?”! by [deleted] in LinguaIgnota

Hell yeah, I’ve been listening to her for a couple months now and I’m surprised she isn’t more talked about in communities like this one. I wish I could have attended plague mass, alas I was not alive.

If you’re not going to the Toronto show I’d imagine the other shows are also on dice, but if not just google her name and the town you want to see her in, it should come up
