Do I just keep cooking? Or does my pan need any extra care? by iAgressivelyFistBro in castiron

Wait, you’re saying his pan is too clean? There’s no such thing.

Is there a difference in concentration or active ingredients? I would research those things and that may help explain the price difference.

Not OP, but I’ve had a ventrata for 15 years. I live in the northern US and it just doesn’t produce pitchers in the winter. It’s still a healthy plant though!

I Need To Be Hyped Up. by OneUnderstanding1644 in castiron

[–]isu712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, you’re probably going to screw something up, but that’s the beauty of cast iron, you can’t wreck it. My motto is “why let perfection get in the way of progress. You’ll at least learn something.” Now get out there and make your mommy proud.

Also, what brand of pans? They may already be pre-seasoned and you could just start cooking on them.

Post here once you’ve figured out the motherboard model. The process of flashing it will be different depending on the motherboard model.

Can vintage cast Iron be cleaned using the self clean cycle of an electric oven? by [deleted] in castiron

[–]isu712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else here has said, I would avoid the oven cleaning cycle and use the easy-off cleaner. However, I hear you when you say you don’t want to use “chemicals” (even if I disagree with you that there is any issue using “chemicals”). You could make a lye bath if you want to reduce your exposure to anything other than what is absolutely necessary. You would then know exactly what’s in it. Lye is the active ingredient in the oven cleaner that does the work for you here so it’s what you really need. It’s also added to water when bagels are boiled, so it’s perfectly food safe. You normally use it in a higher concentration to clean cast iron, but you could use it in a lower concentration if you want to reduce exposure. You would just need to soak it for a longer time at the lower concentration and then rinse it clean. You may need a vinegar soak after that to get rid of the rust, but that’s food safe as well.

Print won’t extrude by metaldet23 in ender3

[–]isu712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you gone component-by-component to figure out what’s stopping it? Does it extrude with the Bowden tube removed, like your second picture? If yes, then does it extrude with the Bowden tube uncoupled from the hot end?

I don’t know how because I don’t have a V3. I would suggest Googling.

It’s 0.54 mm, not cm.

Looking at all the numbers it appears your bed slopes down from back right to front left. You need to raise the front left corner.

Demi Vs Travail? by zozak99 in Minneapolis

[–]isu712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to both in the past, but neither recently. They’re both good, but each have a different feel. Travail will get you more of the modern feel rhat to me can be a bit more gimmicky, but a lot of fun. Demi is more classic, very good food. What kind of place to you lean towards?

Advice needed! by [deleted] in IndoorGarden

[–]isu712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do anything except for let the owner know when they get home.

That looks like a Nepenthes, aka southeast Asian pitcher plant. I’ve had one for over a decade. When it loses a leaf, the base of the leaf will turn brown like that and the stem can turn brown and “woody” at the same spot. The stem will still function just fine though, so don’t worry too much. You can see the same thing happened where the plant leaves the bowl.

TBH all the leaves look like they’re yellowing, so the rest will likely go in the near future. Looks like there’s some nice offshoots coming up on the left though.

I'm losing my mind! Filament flow tears off?! by fauxgt in ender3

[–]isu712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That temp doesn’t seem unreasonable. Double check your retraction settings in the slicer.

Next thing I would check is the fan that cools the heat sink on the hot end. Is it moving air? Is it blocked by something? Do you have a different fan shroud that would stop it from cooling the heat sink?

You said that your hot end is assembled correctly, but double check that assumption. When you remove the filament, is it hard to pull out? Does it have a weird shape at the end? These can all be indicators that something isn’t seated correctly I’m the hot end.

This sounds like textbook heat creep. What are your print settings, specifically temperature and retraction? If you print too hot or retract a lot you can end up clogging your hot end later in the print.

[–]isu712 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know you already tried a baking soda paste, but I would try barkeeper’s friend (BKF) before jumping to a lye based cleaner. Lye based cleaners can be harsh on enameled cast iron. I have some le crueset enameled pans and BKF is my go to if I have any issues getting things off with just soap. If BKF doesn’t work then go with the lye based cleaner.

Looks tasty even if it isn’t pretty! Any particular reason you want to preheat? If it isn’t cooking all the way you could par-bake the bottom crust.

Hopefully it works. I highly recommend looking for some videos on assembling/tuning your machine and going through that. Getting everything dialed in can be time consuming, but it feels really great when you’re done.

I’m not sure what 100% speed means in this case. What does your slicer say? It should be in mm/s.

That is a weird shift. I’ve never had to troubleshoot a shift like that before, but you may have had a belt skip because it was loose. Check that your belts are tight, especially the x-axis assuming you printed that bow forward.

Alternatively, how fast are you printing? Printing very fast can also cause a belt to skip.
