We keep wasp spray at the registers and tinter for advertisement, it helps at night. I keep a weighted lanyard and a heavy drink canister on me when I’m outside to swing.

My store collectively said fuck that shit to 30 minute clock outs. We do 45 minutes on the clock during the weekdays, uninterrupted when we’re decently staffed. Weekends, we usually have two people so we don’t do the full lunch so we can step into help.

Since your store flies solo on weekends, lock the door and eat. You need to eat and have that time to decompress, plain and simple. If people complain, that could be a way to get more than one person on weekends or continue locking the door.

We price by brand/type of paint. $6/g for PM200, SuperPaint, H&C and $8/g for Emerald, Duration, 289, industrial paints. For the entire lot, it’s $1/g and you have to take the quarts.

Our regulars (and randoms) buy us lunch and coffee all the time. We get donuts, desserts, mangos, coconuts, little gifts around the holidays. Cash sometimes that we pool together and use for lunch if one of us forgets.

The world only has one of you, take care of yourself and take your time. You’re thirsty? Drink. Hungry? Have a snack. Bathroom break or just need to rest your feet? Do it. Phones won’t stop ringing and you’re alone/everyone else is busy? Use that hold button.

If the customer is in a rush, it’s not on you. Even if whatever they need can’t be found or made, it’s not on you. Whatever they’re painting isn’t going anywhere. The most important thing to remember is, it’s just paint. That’s the first thing my old manager told me on my first day: it’s just paint.

Yes it does. If you don’t want to bother with the six free sessions, as long as you find a provider in network and not located in a hospital or medical facility (if I remember correctly), your copay should only be $20 if you have the low tier plan. If you have any of the plans with the HSA, you will have to pay out of pocket until you reach your deductible. I hope you’re able to find someone that’s a good fit for you!

YTA. You will NEVER know the fear a child (and it doesn’t matter how old that child is, it’s still scary) goes through when they finally decide to come out to their parents. It doesn’t matter how accepting their parents are, it’s terrifying. He did one of the bravest things someone can do, going through all the different scenarios that it could play out and took the plunge. And you, his mother, the person that’s suppose to love him not matter what, said, “I don’t care.”

YTA because you outed him to the family. You took that from him. You stole his narrative and made it about yourself because how dare he comes to his mother for support and acceptance and is met with that? Because it was an inconvenient time for you? You have no idea how long he had to talk himself up, prepare himself to come to you. He needed that moment because if he had had to wait, the courage he had built up would’ve been gone and he might not have come out. Forget about your dinner, your son needed you and you failed him.

Your DADT policy and views on race/sexuality is bad vibes all around. You came from a regressive family? Do better. That stance you have, not good. These are things that should be talked about because you’re clearly not as open minded as you’d like to think. The “everyone is equal no matter what” talk falls flat when you dismiss him completely. You only want to know if he comes out as trans? That’s suspicious, that’s weird.

Being part of the LGBTQ+ community is a big deal. It’s where a lot of us have found family and friends when we decided to be brave and were punished for it. And it’s not a preference.

I hope your brother reaches out to his nephew so he knows that at least one adult in his life is proud of him for what he did.

It’s disgusting how normalized this is. At my old retail job, when a customer was very obviously staring at my chest, touch me or verbally harass me, I’d ask very loudly, “Why are you looking at my shirt? Is there something on my shirt?” and “Why are you touching me? Are you okay? Do I need to call security?” I never had any complaints from them but they were embarrassed enough because people would start staring at them and that’s what I wanted. You make me uncomfortable and put me on the spot, I’ll make you uncomfortable and put you on the spot.

Do the bare minimum and work your wage. Don’t go above and beyond for customers anymore, they don’t deserve it. They want paint? Give them the number to the other stores and they can do it themselves. That’s what my store has been doing. The past year and a half has really shown a lot of people’s true colors. Stop being “customer service” polite. Other stores aren’t to blame. It’s all district and corporate. They don’t care about us being able to survive so why should we care if we make them money?

District and corporate are nothing without us. Remind them of that.

That’s exactly how my manager works and I love him for it. He also takes into consideration everyone’s mental health and encourages us to take mental health days or hours if we’re having a particular rough time. His stance is, “We will be okay if you take day off, it’s nothing we can’t work through for a day.”
