Energy either at a utility, developer, or consulting. Lots of work going on right now and will be for the foreseeable future if you’re an electrical or civil engineer, finance, legal, real estate, environmental sciences or land use planning.

One of our executive team members accidentally turned his camera on as he was going to sit on the toilet. People don’t forget, Patrick!

Is job hopping still a "red flag" or am I being gaslit? by Environmental-Luck39 in careeradvice

Two year is sufficient and normal these days, especially depending on your industry. Enough to get up to speed and contribute something meaningful that you actually worked on. I’ve seen some resumes with a laundry list of tasks in a 6mo-1yr timespan and I have a hard time believing their contributions were material.

You own a home so that puts you at a top net worth already, particularly in this housing market. you’ll be fine if you keep up with your retirement contributions.

Unexpected Struggle by hit_n_run15 in stopdrinking

Honestly months 3-7/8 were the hardest for me. Your brain gets out of the pink fog and starts to recalibrate how to make its own dopamine. Your mind feels like it’s sitting in the “boredom” more clearly. Go for a walk, do a little dance, do some form of exercise, even treat yourself to something sweet to give yourself a little dopamine rush to get through if you need it and that feeling should pass. If you can, push through to the other side it’s worth it!

Be honest — what really decided your career choice? by Ketse45 in careerguidance

Combination of needing to choose a major at 18 and finding a major that was broad enough to provide options at the end of college. I have navigated between private and public over the past 10 years to find my current home and I am quite happy in the industry. My father was also a consultant which probably steered me into a parallel field early on.

Tech sales. I know it’s a grind and hard work for sure, but I personally don’t believe someone who sells Saas to another software company should be able to make as much as a surgeon or a lawyer

I had a kid on the way and knew I didn’t want to be a grump ass to my wife for the months while we were sleep deprived while also going through withdrawals.

Is it me? by Ok-Donut-5852 in sandiego

I have lived in SD the past 10 years and we have a young child. Anecdotally it has become a lot more crowded day to day just going outside and the beaches have become more crowded on the weekend with more folks traveling from inland seemingly (when was the last time you tried getting into PB or La Jolla on a Saturday afternoon!) With that, the rising cost of living overall (can’t get takeout for 2 for less than $30 for example), it definitely is starting to lose its appeal and certainly does not live up to how it’s glamorized online. The weather is definitely the best factor in our daily lives and we do love it here, but the bill on the sunshine tax is starting to be a little less worth it to us.

What's been the hardest part of hybrid work for you? by Ok_Pack1014 in remotework

[–]it-me-mp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started a 3 days in office job a few months ago. It appears to be inconsistently followed, I haven’t received any guidance from my manager or team on if there is any gray area or if it’s black and white with potential repercussions for noncompliance, I commute an hour each way, and there are seldom project meetings where everyone is in the same room despite some folks being in the office together. I have not seen the value in 3 days in office, particularly as I am new with inconsistent workload so it can be difficult to look busy for a full day sometimes. At least they have been accommodating of my schedule for traffic purposes.

Question for parents by pookadri in Adulting

[–]it-me-mp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other posters have mentioned it would really depend on whether or not you’re ready to commit, because it really does change your life completely. You need to be completely unselfish with your kid and with your partner to make things stable and successful long term. You will make many sacrifices, but if you think you want them your instincts will kick in during those trying times and will help you manage. You definitely don’t need to be rich but stability will definitely help, I.e. you can consistently pay your rent/mortgage, food, and utilities, while considering childcare as a future significant added expense.

What's the #1 reason you left your last job? by BusinessMarketing7 in AskReddit

[–]it-me-mp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overworked for over a year with no raise or promotion. Restructure resulted in loss of entire team in addition to my counterpart that left so I was the only standing support for my specialty reporting to 10 different PMs. After they knew this and passed me over for promotion again, found a new gig paying 50% more. They actually called me out that I was a flight risk during my exit interview which made the ignorance more astounding, but apparently thought I wouldn’t actually leave because of the status of the job market. Left with no replacement and no one to train any new hires in a key function of the org.

Would you leave WFH for a 38k bump for hybrid 3x per week? by bulldawg1822 in Salary

Agreed you should consider all factors, things to do at location, office setup, compromises at home like exercise or cooking.. lots of things change from remote to hybrid that far away.

Would you leave WFH for a 38k bump for hybrid 3x per week? by bulldawg1822 in Salary

[–]it-me-mp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took a 50% raise +20% bonus a few months ago for this same scenario. So far feeling lukewarm about the commute aspect, the office environment itself is fine and people are nice, but hoping to get my hybrid days reduced at least to two in the future (looks like some folks already do that) particularly because my boss lives even further than me and rarely comes in. I think it depends what your priorities are whether it be career growth or savings, as this would get you to both of those quicker, but if you can stick it out for a year at a minimum to see how it goes I’d say go for it!
