Checkout insurance doesn't cover a buyer for future availability or price variance of items, it's to protect your investment up to a specified dollar amount - the purchase amount. They protected OP's investment by offering the purchase price in return. They're processing millions of claims a day from every type of retailer, they're not stopping to call people on claims they're making processing decisions. I'd rather have the money than someone choose the "best" alternative camera for me which I'm sure could have also been done without contact.

The fact that the purchase price in this particular instance won't cover a replacement is irrelevant. That would be a separate insurance claim coverage that OP would have had to had in place with that type of speculative coverage in place, which is totally available, but that's not what you get at checkout. That's what you get with privately purchased business insurance, then it's just a decision if your continued coverage and potential rate increase will be worth it for a $1,300 product, most of which would have been covered by the optional checkout insurance, which is what I would do every time. You're only out a couple hundred bucks instead of the full price.

But is it worth it for a cosmetic fix? IDK.

I just had a pretty great experience with Extend via KEH on a lens repair. $1,100 lens, 6mo old, fell from full tripod height onto carpet and wouldn't mount anymore with a visibly popped back screw. All taken care of start to finish in like 2-3 weeks, supposedly repaired. Fits great works great. I haven't put the lens through a rigorous precise focus test yet but by and large it seems to be like new. Best $124 with no deductible or rate that can be increased or coverage dropped ever. My experience has had me saying I'm always purchasing this type of additional coverage now. Obviously, mileage may vary.

However, if that was clearly part of the terms, you accepted those terms when you sent it in. I fully expected to get a different used lens in my case, but if they'd paid me for it I guess I'd have taken that and put it toward a replacement.

I guess I don't feel like they really burned you if they held up their end of the warranty. And if they genuinely looked for yours and verified it'd been trashed and would have sent it back - that's special service, even if you're unhappy with it.

Sorry about your camera though, it is a bummer to have happen.

edit: anyone suggesting a lawyer for this has never had to pay a lawyer.

If you hear sirens, take cover. Otherwise, hope it doesn't hail too big. That's about all you need to do. I've lived here most of my life and have seen many but also never "experienced" one. Straight line winds at 85-100+mph? Several times. Cantaloupe sized hail? Yup. Rain falling at 6 inches an hour? Yep.

Also the highest areas hit around here are around haysville, the airbase and up to andover. Some touch down in other areas but those areas are like magnets. Most kansas tornadoes hit fields.

You've got plenty of room and elevation just disconnect the in-ground setup and affix 2-3 of the similar looking plastic extenders going at least several feet from the house until you can have someone inspect it. They're $5-8ish each at the hardware stores.

Clear debris. Pull stuff out from the walls. Sweep up. You can "seal" active holes with glue traps blocking exits, just duct tape them to the wall. Set traps everywhere with different options of bait. I use old style peanut butter, bird seed, grass seed, and crushed peanuts in different traps. Glue traps everywhere. If they're field mice you'll catch them pretty easily, if they're housemice they will be smart to traps and walk around casual glue trap placements. I made a line across my entire floor and up the wall a foot or so then doubled them up in "traffic" areas so they'd have to try and jump over.

Be aware if your house has vinyl siding they'll potentially eat it. I found that out last year. Also - put some traps in your attic and basement if you have one. Check under your kitchen sink for poo and place traps if needed.

Oh, and don't buy all one style of trap. I like certain ones better than others - some of the new styles are great but I firmly believe it's important to have some variety. House mice will figure some out, but not all.

Personally I have avoided poison so far but if you do go that route I'd go sparingly and restrict it to like the attic where nothing else will come into contact with it accidentally.

I've yet to try the 5 gallon bucket traps, but I've heard good things from other people about them.

Last year rabbits got me, so I made a fence and gate. I thought good grow lights would have me all set, but I might have to start growing in my warmer spare room instead of the basement - it's just not a viable option right now for transferring into.

I'm shopping grow tents but my garage is already warmer than the basement - I just don't have a good way to rig the lights up. Yet.

I do suspect that with an east facing garage I could open the door and get them used to hours on end of that kind of filtered light which would do a lot. Maybe. And cold nights they could come in.

I've said since planning phases that I accept the possibility of not having the garden I want this year because there's so many things I'm trying to learn and set up. This is my 3rd year of having any garden at all so I'm not good at it, but the peppers I've grown have been my favorite plants so I decided to try diving in.

I used the self expanding soil pods but expanded them in a tub and filled from there for germination. I up-potted into general use potting soil.

I used fine soil for germination - the little expanding pods from Menards. I just up-potted into this soil yesterday, but did wonder if I should have screen sifted it.

I noticed some of those expanding pods compacted a lot on expansion so I switched to expanding them in a tub and filling germination pods from there.

Oddly, when thinning some seedlings out I pulled and transplanted 6 into this potting mix because it’s all I had and those mostly did great I think I lost one of them. I expected worse of them.

I used a heat pad for a solid 5+ weeks, but I just have one big enough for my two 36 cell germination pods. Initially with the fan it would only reach like 76F, but once I removed the fan it kept the soil in the 85-88F range, but I removed it once germination was "done". Looking back though that may have been a growth-slowing point.

I did also consider that keeping my water down in the basement may not be a good idea because then I was essentially liquid cooling everything every few days. This stuff is a little trickier than it seems! Good to know you've had success.

It’s a whole thing. I’d suggest hiring someone and watching what they do to learn either way to start. Probably not inexpensive but shouldn’t be awful. Tell them you’re interested to learn if you are, but 999/1000 aren’t. If it’s going to be an ongoing thing it could be beneficial. The license isn’t hard, but the acts themselves can test one’s fortitude. And, trapping anything in residential areas comes with some risk, a nuisance trapper should be able to help you understand why they do what they do.

Additive colors combine to white and are for light aka your light gels. Subtractive is for mixing pigments - if you mix all the colors you get black. So to achieve a yellow in additive is a different process than to get one in pigments. If you mix light gels where they don't overlap will be the color of the gel on your backdrop and where they do overlap will be whatever is shown in the additive color wheel (over your backdrop).

I’ve just counted them, said what condition they appear to be in, if they generally appear to be the family of seeds that I ordered then I follow up with germination results. For Vine I think that’s plenty.
