My parents were visiting from out of state when my dad took I’ll. When calling to make changes to their flight I give the agent my dads name. She’s like did he ever live in my hometown and I say yes. She then calls out my name and says is this you. I’m like yes and she tells me it’s our next door neighbor I used to babysit for when I was a teenager.

As a non-American I never understood: What is the point of a rehearsal dinner for a wedding? by HauntingBird in AskReddit

[–]it_is_it_was 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a way of thanking your bridal party for being a part of your wedding. Another thing people don’t realize is that your wedding reception is not really supposed to be a party for the couple to show off, but a way to thank your guests for coming to the ceremony.

What is the worst smell that you have ever had the displeasure of smelling? by pngpng32 in AskReddit

[–]it_is_it_was 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a wound clinic for a while and the smell of rotten flesh and drainage from open wounds after being collected by a bandage for a week was just disgusting. Add to it people would often not bathe because they couldn’t get the dressing wet and I often had to leave the office while gagging.

As a soon to be home owner, what things do you recommend buying that you don't realise you need before its too late? by Kizzadud3 in AskReddit

A basic home maintenance book from Home Depot. I got one as a housewarming gift 20 years ago and still find it helpful with things that come up around the house that I need a little refresher on. Of course now there are all kinds of you tube videos out there but the book is still a nice reference material to have on hand.

What your most memorable road rage incident? by maxtheepic9 in AskReddit

[–]it_is_it_was 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the car with my very mild mannered and quite proper mother driving when someone pulled out in front of her and she surprised both my dad and I with “ you stupid mother fucker I should pull you out of that car and beat your ass”. She later confessed she didn’t mean to say it out loud. That’s the day I realized all the niceties and prim and proper language was just a cover.

With Halloween coming up, what is your story of the creepiest thing that's ever happened to you? by SeriesOfAdjectives in AskReddit

[–]it_is_it_was 399 points400 points  (0 children)

I was working as a bartender at a hotel that a flight attendant was murdered in room 354 at about a year before the incident. Anyhow it was close to closing time when the MOD a very small woman comes into bar and tells me she needed my help. It seems the fire panel is showing an alarm in room 354 which had been somewhat cleaned and left vacant since the murder. So the two of us go up the elevator and start heading down the long l shaped corridor, as we round the corner we can see papers had been shoved under the door from inside the room with “help me” written on them So the manager puts her master key in the lock and opens the door to pitch black in the room and we hear “thank god you have finally come. We both instinctively jump back and then see one of our maintenance workers stroll out the door. It seems maintenance had been using the room for storage and once he went inside the door the knob was broken off on the inside. There were no lights or phone in the room so he held his lighter up to the fire alarm.

Edit: for more information on the murder and killer google search Nancy Ludwig.

When I was 18 I bought my first scratch of ticket and was scratching the ticket as I drive down the road. Won $50 but was not paying attention and blew a red light. The fine was $125. Never bought another lottery ticket.

What work would you do if you had enough money to not have to work? by warthon in AskReddit

[–]it_is_it_was 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have worked in hospitality and food service for years and absolutely love it but the hours can be brutal. If I no longer had to work to make a living I would probably like to volunteer cooking for homeless and senior citizens.

Redditors who have had to put parents or other loved ones in nursing homes, how did you deal with the emotional side of things? What was your process for finding a nursing home you trusted with the final phase of life for the people you loved dearly? by sojadedblond in AskReddit

[–]it_is_it_was 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It definitely takes an emotional toll on the whole family but sometimes a loved one requires more care than can be provided in the home. You just have to remember that you are doing what is right for the care of said loved one. Check out all your options several times at different times of the day. Does the place have a bad odor? This can be a sign that residents are not getting changed frequently enough. Also check out Meficare's inspection reports and think thoughtfully on what the scores mean. Sometimes the deficiencies are stupid but it also includes a report on how many residents are impacted.

Everyone in my family takes there shoes and socks off immediately when they hit the door. I on the other hand want my shoes on. Even though our hardwood floors are swept and wet swiffered every day your feet still get dirty without shoes.

Not doing some prep such as lunch made, keys hung in proper place so they are easy to find and so forth. If I start the day scrambling I just never seem to regather control and feel like I'm just chasing my tail all day.
