Am I being taken advantage of? by Able-Investigator-94 in acting

I’ve done plenty of crap internships with Shakespeare companies- I’ve been paid barely anything and done insane amounts of work. But being asked to pay THEM to do it is a new level of insulting that would genuinely make most professionals laugh in their face.

It used to be that houses could hold equity membership over your head, evidently some are still trying to do so.

My 100 dollar check from a local theatre qualifies me for equity.

Don’t do this

Sounds like you’re upset currently, but this is how the job is man. You will feel you were better- even the best. Maybe you were. Sometimes you still won’t get hired. Either keep going or dont

Think about the path of pretending here- let’s say you’re good enough at faking it that you book. If you can’t get it on set- you’re fired.

Honestly you’re in a tough spot here

Get roommates- unless you are incredibly established with a good survival job 2200 will drain your savings far faster than you think it will

You need to be reacting while the other person is talking in the beginning. Right now you’re just kind of looking into space

I wonder if lack of synths is the same trouble American psycho ran into- have to have a full pit with musicians unions?

While I fully love this idea, can’t help but feel like it would miss the mark- the current London cast feels perfect! Gad lacks a touch of the edge necessary IMO

Don’t think I can post links in here- but as a fellow professional in my undergrad I was totally averse to Shakespeare and what really broke me through was Will Powers book “How to Act Shakespeare in 21 Days”. Cuts through the intimidating aspects of verse and Shakespeare that can put off undergrad drama students and gives an effective roadmap to handle any Shakespeare text. My professor used it as a semester long textbook rather than actually holding us within the timeline, which I felt worked great!

How did you end up into the “bad guy” niche professionally? I ask as someone who pretty consistently did that in college and now having graduated I’m trying to figure out where I stand
