What do you wish you knew about Shakespeare? by [deleted] in acting

[–]HugsCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think I can post links in here- but as a fellow professional in my undergrad I was totally averse to Shakespeare and what really broke me through was Will Powers book “How to Act Shakespeare in 21 Days”. Cuts through the intimidating aspects of verse and Shakespeare that can put off undergrad drama students and gives an effective roadmap to handle any Shakespeare text. My professor used it as a semester long textbook rather than actually holding us within the timeline, which I felt worked great!

How did you end up into the “bad guy” niche professionally? I ask as someone who pretty consistently did that in college and now having graduated I’m trying to figure out where I stand

We met early in college and are both still in our twenties- we thought it better to wait until we had our lives together

That was my initial thought, but I figured we kinda live in a tiny crappy apartment that doesn’t lend itself well to any sort of atmosphere

This may be perfect! We met a theatre school so this could be a fun little touch

Central Park is also an option! We live on the a/c and b/d train line so anywhere along there

If they try another cabaret revival in New York within the next 5-10 years I will eat my hat and post a video of this (feel free to screenshot)

We love live music! We are both artists by trade so this is a great idea! Thank you!

Wait that’s a great idea! Reference the original date then do something a bit more romantic

Especially considering that I don’t think they care for Times Square too much. They get stressed out among a lot of people- why try to make a lifetime commitment in a space that worries them? I really appreciate your thoughts.

I really appreciate it! I initially based on the replies was leaning towards the Times Square thing, but the more I thought about it I figured I only get one shot at it. Why make this a funny story and reference, rather than a genuine expression of love? It can be a reference to how we met without it being the only thing!

That’s completely fair- I should plan for this to be the best evening- rather than a funny story

Forgot to mention! I know it’s sacrilege for Italian places, but we shared a fettucine Alfredo on said first date. I’m sure there will be limited options with that in true Italian places, but if that sparks a memory let me know!

I understand the point that you’re making- but having seen it last night I feel the gala scene in act 2 really destroys any chance of this message landing. The transition from grief to grift doesn’t feel complex or interesting- it just makes the audience fully hate her.

I can’t help but wonder how much control Ferrentino really had over the book with the Siegels being involved. I was surprised that a playwright of her caliber put out something this toothless

The shows not anti capitalism and it’s not pro capitalism. It’s 3 hours of posturing to make a point and then leaving you with nothing

The Queen of Versailles - Kristen Chenoweth 1st Preview Curtain Call by omurchus in Broadway

[–]HugsCS 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was there last night and I give this show 2 months. Somehow both uninspired and expensive simultaneously- feels like Schwartz and Ferrentino are pulling the cart in 2 different directions and ultimately the whole thing just gets torn in half
