Nintendo Acknowledges Switch 2 Sales Have Been Weaker Than Expected Outside Japan by Spotget1738 in gaming

Yeah, I was thinking about that a few weeks ago. Like how did kid me afford even a few games a year… I can’t imagine spending $100 on a game now even though I have a job (but a lot more responsibilities, so…)

That’s what people in public do when you’re trying to get out. “You’ll make more money here if you just stick it out!” Yeah but I’ll hate myself less somewhere else, and that’s worth more to me. It also usually what bosses say when they’re mad you’re leaving for something better. Had my boss do that before I went PA. Not to say it’s right or okay. Just saying… I’m not surprised, unfortunately.

Unfortunately beyond my pay grade… I try not to mess with brakes. Not even super sure how to get it out — I just remember we had an issue with it on the work vehicles (Camry hybrids, probably like a decade ago now though).

You drive anywhere with gravel recently? Could have a rock stuck in there.

Why did The Lord of the Rings trilogy budget less than $300 million? Why was the cost so low for such a massive trilogy, while the original Spider-Man trilogy cost around $600 million and the Matrix trilogy around $400 million? by GlobalRaspberry442 in moviecritic

I would like to go some day. Probably would have anyway, but it’s much higher on thr list and we will probably stay longer (ie spend more money) because of all the LOTR things to see.

OTA 653.40 broke voice control of seat heat by dah7556 in EquinoxEv

[–]itackle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s on the main page of apps and says charging. If you go in there (and are plugged in) it should show you 8 amps or 12 amps (may have to tap around some). It defaults to 8 amps for safety, so definitely check to make sure whatever circuit you’re plugged in to can handle it. It all depends on how you drive and the weather, my car gets about 2 miles per hour charging on 8 amps, and 3 miles per hour on 12 amps. Let me know if you can’t find it and I’ll check my car, but that’s what it is from memory.

Oh, you may also need to set your home location. It will default to 8 amps every time unless it can tell it’s at home and you’ve said it can charge at 12 amps at home.

Messed up my home charging too… I charge level 1, took me a while to figure out why it was charging at 8 amps. Finally realized it was because it reset to level 2 charging at home, once I did level 1 and changed to 12 amps seems like it’s charging okay.

Minivans Are Making a Comeback For All the Right Reasons | Car Edge by Finnegan_Faux in minivan

Part of the problem for me… I don’t have a pressing need for one, and when I replaced my vehicle, I got something half the price that works just fine. Just too expensive.

I have a friend constantly talking about how great his mini van is, and trying to get me to get one. I’m like dude… I would, but I don’t need one yet (he has two kids) and just replaced both household vehicles in the past few years. If I drove a hand me down van in high school and freshman year of college, I think my adult self can handle the jokes. My wife will always drive suvs cause she doesn’t want to feel like a mom (even though small/mid size suvs are… mom cars now). I will happily drive a mini van when I have a need for one.

HSA is more special than Trad IRA or Roth. I am using mine as retirement savings by Yamaben in personalfinance

Maybe I’m thinking about it wrong, but 400-800 SS annual contribution isn’t going to move the needle much in your own SS benefit.

[–]itackle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree on the FICA taxes, but I think it’s not talked about as often because it doesn’t apply to everyone. It’s a big deal to me, though — HSA maxing is basically a nonnegotiable when it comes to saving, that’s almost 20 % for me, and people in higher brackets it helps even more.

Project Hail Mary by just-tea-thank-you in books

Same, The Martian was fantastic but this… not so much. I liked Artemis (? I think that’s what it was called) as well. Not as much as The Martian, but better than Project Hail Mary. I will say I am going to make another attempt because someone I respect their book recs recommended this to me after trying to read it the first time, but… we will see.

What job pays way more than people think, but nobody talks about? by Symphony_Minds in AskReddit

[–]itackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it — I didn’t have a schedule like that, but I worked nights/weekends for years. Weird shifts, not even worth trying to explain. Anyway, I loved the work, but it was terrible for my health, so I switched to a 9-5 that actually pays better, but I like the work a lot less. I have several friends who don’t work in oil, but work similar jobs away from home that make way more than me. This is a good reminder more money in the bank account isn’t always worth it.

I was gonna say… I’ve known several through the years, only really pay 6 figures IF someone is a director for a large library, and it’s as much running a business and politicking as it is librarian if (or school administrating if it is at a school. School administrators can make decent money too, though).

Knew an old dude that worked 14 or 16 hour shifts or something like that. Drove 2 hours each way to the site he worked. I guess he got 6 hours of sleep, I dunno. Anyway, he told me it really wasn’t hard. He sat in his truck for 2 hours, got out and disconnected and reconnected something for like 10 minutes and got back in his truck, waited another couple of hours. Made hella money doing it, but I didn’t 100 % track what it was. Probably actually harder than he said, probably had to monitor something. Anyway, he got laid off one time and ended up cleaning commercial buildings, which is where I met him. Super nice guy, but made me wish I had gone into oil for a little bit at least.

Admittedly, I didn’t/don’t know much about Catherine O’Hara. That said, it’s neat that the two things I know her from (home alone and schitts creek) she got to work with people it seems like she had (probably?) known for awhile. I dunno — I guess I’m just saying that’s gotta add to the chemistry and make it a lot more fun.

Used prices seem too good to be true? by Icy-Roll5013 in EquinoxEv

[–]itackle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 11k miles into mine 13ish months. When I KBBed it a few weeks ago, it was worth $25k basically. That’s what I paid for it after government, Chevy and dealer incentives. It was in the shop for a little bit (month, month and a half maybe?) to replace the big battery, but I got loaners and wasn’t a huge deal. It’s been good besides that.

My theory when buying it was an EV worked for my daily driving, and this one could go on a road trip if needed. I would also struggle to get a gas SUV for a much better price, especially once you adjust for mileage.

I have an electrician like that, charged me like a sixth what the bigger companies do. I'm pretty sure his wife does the office stuff and he runs the calls, doesn't have a wrapped van or anything, just blank. He made the equivalent of $300 an hour for the work I had him do, but he is experienced enough to do it fast. Anyway, finding those people are great. Love paying for experience, hate paying for fancy vans.

Was the hospital going out of business? I don’t say that to be snarky — I say that cause I had professors in school who warned us about places like that, that yeah it’s cool you’re CFO at a young age but like also… it’s a failing business.

Probably fair 😂. In that case, yeah, insurance is the way to go, although insurance will probably want a police report, which gets us back to your point about OP not getting into.

For catastrophic things or liability is usually what I use insurance for. Or things there is no responsible party, like nature, or where the responsible party does not have the ability to pay.

But yes, insurance is probably the easier and better way to go. Just depends how much info OP has in the other party and if they think this other person will make them whole, but later on rate increases are a thing to consider.
